Hello, southport is located on institution road. i can give you detailed directions (im 5 miles away) if you are talking the newer maxi maxi prison, it is in essentially elmira just on the southern end of town compared to elmira correctional, hence its name.
i heard it was a strict prison locked in cell like 20+ hours a day, but i only heard, so dont take my word on the goings on inside as fact.

hmm, your counter shows 536 days, cant be talking the maxi prison i wouldnt think?

if its the county holding area thats by elm chevy, right in the middle of town.

Southport sucks! My husband did 16 months there. They are locked in 23/24. Visits are only one day a week and only on the weekends. There is a gate between you and your man during the whole visit so no hugging, kissing, etc. No phone calls until level 3, and then only one 10-minute call every 90 days. No packages except books. And watch out for CO Tina Turner at proccessing -- she's a real biaaooch!

Sorry for the scare! We just did a LONG time there and I got sick of it. But if he only has 6-11 months AND he behaves himself, he should get out of there in 6, no? I hope so! Make sure you send/bring him lots of books/magazines/crosswords, etc because they NEED to keep their mind entertained in there to keep sane. Also write to him A LOT. He will need the human contact and mental stimulation. If you can, visit every week just so he gets out of that cell....and make sure you make him eat a lot on the visit because they can't get much in their cells. When you visit get there before 7am in order to beat the busses from NYC. You must stand outside the door of the "visitor center" until 8am when doors open. If you don't stand out there though, and the buses get there, you will lose your spot in line. Take extra visiting passes home with you and always arrive with a pass already filled out, so that when the doors open you can put yours right in the pile. (All the bus people will have theirs already filled out). CO Tina Turner is a white chick with short brown hair - kinda manly-looking. She is a stickler for the rules and a real ass, but just always be very polite to her and NEVER cop an attitude; I have seen her call the police on people over nothing. If you just be polite though, you'll be FINE, trust me. Any other questions, just PM me. We just got out of Southport last year.

this just in--he is not at southport!!! my mom called earlier today (monday) and they said that he isn't even there that he is in transit!

SO WHO KNOWS WHERE HE IS!!!!!!????? so maybe he will be there when she calls!? i really do not know!
