View Full Version : How much mail do you send?

I was just curious - how much mail do you send to your loved ones behind bars?

My husband says he gets more mail than anybody where he is (there's 400 guys there) - that it is very rare for him not to get something in the mail, even if it's a magazine.

Hi I am a busy little mama, I write four inmates at Pelican Bay including my son Richard. I also send out greeting cards for inmates to use all over the US. The postman thinks I'm nuts LOL. Barbara

I try to write my son daily although sometimes it is hard to think of things to say!! Sometimes I just send him a card. He also receives magazines.

I write daily. I also send magazines, articles and pictures--separately. In general--he gets about 11 pieces of mail a week from me in addition to the daily newspaper. He tells me that he gets the most mail too.

I try to write AG one long letter at least once a week, then send cards and whatever else I can think of inbetween. I got a letter form him today and he ended it with "I love you~can't wait to hear from you soon"
I think that's a hint he wants me to write more :D

It all depends and it goes in stages... Sometimes it is daily and sometimes once or twice per week... I always write more than I get back and I am fine with that... It is what keeps my Partner alive in my head (my heart does not need the same kind of reminder) Writing to me is always when I need to talk to him. It is when I need to share. It helps me to stay sane.

I write my husband 2 or 3 times a day. It's like I'm talking to him and I write just about everyday! I love him so much. I think he tried to push me away once because he can't express himself like he wants to beind bars. He said once that he didn't won't a relationship because it was to hard and he had to stay focused while being there. I want him home so bad!

Phases...I might write 3 or 4 page letters 3 or 4 days in a row, but then I won't write more than one 6 to 10 page letter letter the next week. After visits we run out of stuff to write about. I usually end up filling requests for song lyrics that he asks for at the visits, or tracking down legal info and sending that.

I write a page or two almost every day- but I only send out mail about once or twice a week. Whenever I have a moment of peace and quiet, I will write.
Allthough he doesn't receive mail on a daily basis, he knows where he stands and that with all the kids I simply don't have the time to complete a letter. I do feel guilty, though- because I know he looks forward for my letters at least as much as I do for his. I used to write him a lot more.
In my opinion, it's not just the quantity- it's the quality!

I write clinton every day. I used to type the letters but since we have internet the boys use the computer much more so now I write every night before I go to sleep, in my bed the old fashion way, but I like it. the next morning I post the letter when I go to work. He writes me about 3 times a week.

I have my penpal ministry and I write an average of 5-7 letters everyday and I take weekends off. I have around 20 prisoners I write to now, only one is a family member, my cousin. It brings me so much joy when their letters come, one friend wrote that it is like the icecream truck coming down the road when the mail comes.

I write daily... and sometimes more.... I often send books, magazines and miscellaneous "tidbits" and will send them separately from letters sometimes..... :) We too don't get phone calls and only have 2 hours a month together in visits.... and I figure since he is in seg, he doesn't have that many "highlights"... he too says he gets the most mail... in fact that CO's give him a hard time about it....
I often write on the computer (because I can type FAR faster than I can write by hand....) and will sit down and write throughout the day... I tell JD everything via letters, it is my only way to "talk" to him!! :)

As of right now we write daily (while he's in seg) Normally neither of us writes actual letters that much, maybe 1x a week because we talk 2x a day and see eachother every weekend. He always gets cards, mags and books though, and also says he get a ton more mail than most guys. Makes me sad to think of the guys who's names never get called :(

I write Billy at least twice a week, not including cards and money orders. My weekday letters are short since I have to work. On weekends the letters seem to be longer, at least 3 or 4 pages.

It varies for us-but averages about once a week on both of our ends...sometimes as many as 4 a week, and sometime zero...usually once though.
We talk twice a week on the phone for either 1/2hr or an hour each time-and I try to get up to visit him twice a month. *sigh*
I miss him so much right now though-it's been 7 weeks since I've seen him!!!! because of $ and car stuff-bleh...I'm trying to have enough $ to go this weekend though. Everyone cross your fingers for me on that. I actually sent him like 6 pcs of mail in the past week, which is a record for me:) hahahaha

I try to send something every day...I'm usually successful...every three or four weeks I get burnt out and only send something once or twice a week for about a week..but we also see each other every weekend and talk at least three times a week...

I used to write everyday, but have slowed down some. Partly because we talk on the phone so often. I generally put something in the mail at least 2-3 times a week though, even if just a card to let him know I am thinking about him. Will probably get back to once a day when I go back to work. You know back to a routine, which I haven't been in for 6 months!

Oh goodness, since I write to dozens of inmates, I couldn't even estimate.

All I know is I pay A LOT in postage, and a card shop here in my town has given me a PERMANENT 25% discount on all the cards I buy. They're wonderful people. I go in and cry all the time, saying "You remember that man in Arizona who's really sick..." and they tell me "Tell him we are also praying for him." And they faithfully write down inmate's names, and genuinely pray for them!

My post office USED to wonder why so much of my mail was from PRISONS all over the continent, until I explained what I do. They must have thought I was from the MOST DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY ON EARTH, and all my relatives were in prison! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I don't get to talk to Dale, haven't for a couple months now (he's in seg too). Also, there are no visits. With the schedule I keep, I still try to write him 3-4 times a week. If I'm unable to do that, I'll stick a card in the mail.

I used to write my fiance 3 times a week but now I send a letter out everyday! It makes me feel better because I know he loves receiving mail from me~ I only get to see him for 2 hours a week so by writing him everyday it's like we talk everyday! I get around 3-4 letters a week from him which is a miracle because he hates writing!

I try very hard to put something in the mail for Shawn every day...even if it is only a card telling him how much I care about him.

For a long time, I would handwrite all the letters...and then I told him that if I could type them out on the computer, I'd be inclined to write more (60 wpm, LOL). He said "whatever is easier for you, baby". So, it's about 50/50, depending on how much time I have. I like writing by hand, because it's so much more "personal", but then I like all the cool fonts and colors when I use MS Word.

Since I teach scrapbooking and paper arts, I am always sending him handmade cards, origami samples, and pictures on fancy hand-cut mats. I also make all my own envelopes, usually out of antiqued vellum paper...bet no one else in El Dorado CF gets "prettier" mail! LOLOL!

My longest letter was 17 pages...lately they average 5-6.

In the first three months we wrote to each other, I received nearly 60 letters from him, and sent back over 100 (the pen-pal equivalent of "hot and heavy" LOLOL). Soon, he will have to send mine back to me, as he is only allowed to keep so many in his cell. Also, he has told me that others are jealous of all his mail (and calls)...so that happens in a lot of prisons, apparently. I, too, think of all the people inside who have no one to write them...no one who cares. Very sad.

The letters from him are fewer in the past month or so...being in seg, he is limited to the $$$ he can spend, including postage. I try to understand what he's going through...even though I am in a financial bind as of late, I still have opportunities to change the situation--Shawn does not.

So, I will continue to write as much as possible, and pray for some light at the end of the tunnel.

Great poll, by the way :D

I write to Danny everyday, and get a letter from him everyday.I have tried to send him mags. but in Kanas they are not allowed to receive them unless they have the money on there books and can order them, themself. Can't even send him the t.v. guide, it was sent back .I don't understand it, but like him, I must also play by there rules!

I write letters daily, but not always with someone in prison. I am not allowed writing letters to the Alabama prisoners because of my past affliliation. I have children, friends, and e-mail partners for writing. I respond as fast as I get them for it offers encouragement for more. It is kind of like playing tag as a child......Tag, you it! ~~waving to Joy, stacey, Angel Florez, and Darlene~~

Sometimes, I am confused by the mail policies at El Dorado CF. I can't send magazines, but I can send (soft cover) books. I can't send Polaroids, but I can send all the photos I want in any other format (as large as 8 x 10, no limit to amount). I can send printouts of ANY Internet content, yet KDOC heavily frowns upon prisoners taking ad***tage of Net personal ads (nor can they take photos for such ads). In fact, they can't have their photo taken at all, the way I understand it.

Anyway, after reading so many other states' rules, I think the Kansas DOC is actually more liberal than most, regarding mail content and phone usage. If we can pay the bill, they don't care if we talk all day....in ad seg, he has his own phone inside the cell. He can get all the mail he wants, and I have sent a lot of things I thought would never make it through (prison activist mailings, Native American underground petitions, anti-government news items, handmade cards with metal embellishments, many layers glued together, etc.). The mailroom staff is very pleasant, and have always been helpful and polite to me. I've never received a letter or package from Shawn that was opened and/or censored, which is different from other states as I understand it.

Now we'll see how the visiting policy stacks up in the spring!

Boy I wish I had time to write Stephen more but betwen kids and trying to keep this house clean--not easy , my kids are little pigs--I try to write him 1-2 times a week but sometimes it is more and sometimes it is less...He knows I love him and I know he loves me so it is no big deal with us..althoug he got a little hurt when I didnt write him for about 3 weeks..so I try and make sure he gets at least one letter a week or more ...he writes me more than I write him but he knows that is because he doesnt have anything to do all day right now (he is in county and they dont work or anything) but when he was in TDC he we both went a couple weeks without writing eachother cause we were both so busy(he was working all day and had classes at night) I think it is more about quality not quantity in our reltionship....but I am going ot try and get him some more mail this week cause now I am eeling bad...LOL...:).....

Amelia,

You shouldn't feel bad at all....raising a home full of children is an all-consuming job in itself (my best friend has 4, including 3 boys under age 9!). Everyone's situation is different....I only have one teenage daughter, and she is fairly self-sufficient, so I have more free time on my hands to write letters.

In my eyes, your strength, grace and dedication to your family in the face of adversity speaks volumes about your love for Stephen, much more than any letter could do.

Give yourself a pat on the back....you certainly deserve it!

Justin and I write to each other everyday. Then I also write a letter to him from Justina (our two month old) everyday just letting him know how her day was and to tell him that she loves him and misses him. I also send him a few cards a week as well as alot of pictures of me and the baby. He definitely gets more mail than any of the other guys where he is. We talk on the phone almost everyday also and he always has me put the phone to Justina's ear so he can tell her that he loves her and misses her and that he'll be home with us soon.

I write Dennis every day. I start in the morning and finish it up at the end of the work day, that way I can mail it on my way home. He also gets about 4 (can't remember now) or more magazines. One is daily and there are about 12 guys waiting for it. They have worked out a distribution list. He is an avid reader so I end up sending about 6 books a month. He reads fast too. He wrote me that there were requests for westerns this time around. So that's what I did sent 12 of them. Dennis is a well liked guy. I get a letter from him every day, except the weekends through it off cause the mailroom must get busy so they don't get to scan through the letters fast enough. It takes longer for my mail to get through to him then for his to get to me.
We don't get phone calls, but I do get to visit for 2 hours every weekend. The letters are my lifeline through the week as mine are to him.

Great topic!

How often do I write? Well I have about 20 inmates that I am currently actively writing, so I write letters daily, but not to each one! At this point in time, I wait for a response back to my last letter before I respond individually, unless something special happens in my life or theirs – Birthdays, catastrophes, etc. Thank the powers that be for puters and cut/paste! I try to keep a ‘daily log’ of events and another of generic type of answers / questions / things like that. As I write one, I will pick and choose things from those ‘files’ and put them into the individual letters. I hate to retype things. When I first start writing an inmate, I let them know that I am writing others, and that I use cut / paste. So far none are really upset about this situation. My letters usually end up 3-5 pages, both sides, so the guys I am writing should have no reason to complain! I have read on some sites to not let them know that I am writing others, but I feel that it is only fair to let them know. And a couple are in the same institution and they don’t have a problem with that so far. Perhaps I am just lucky in this respect.

But daily to an individual? Not at this point in time. The closest I got to this was with one in FL. We were writing about 3 times a week, letters crossed in the postal service. No problem there. But that relationship is now over. Long story.

To those of you only writing one person, Best of luck to you! And daily sounds great! Also the daily log and sending it out 1 or 2 times week also sounds like a workable solution. I know that postage adds up real quick!

Right now, I am about 8 letters behind, so I need to get my butt in gear and get writing.

Best of luck to all of you writing!

Later,

Jerry

I started this poll in October of last year...now I hardly ever write. It's not that I don't want to - but we talk on the phone almost every day. On weekends, sometimes 4 or more times a day. Also, he's coming home soon, so I'm trying to save up things to actually tell him in person! :)

I have missied one day writing a letter in the last 169, and that was because he had court the next day. We talk to each other on the phone everyday too so sometimes it's hard to think of things to write about but somehow I manage. Rarely is a letter less then four pages. I guess I just tell him how much I love him in a lot of different ways.

He communicates far better in writing than on the phone. We talk maybe once a week. I get mail from him every other day and I send him mail almost everyday. He will actually save some things for letters. He gets cards once or twice a month and I get cards once a month. Some mags. aren't allowed so I'll rip out the pages of interest. If an article mentions a web page I'll send a copy that too. I also send silly little emails I get from friends. We have a lot to talk about because I just got a new place that is totally empty, so I'll send him print outs of different pieces of furniture to get his opinion on things. I also am in the process of getting a new motorcyle or truck so I send him the pictures of the things I'm looking at to get his opinion on that stuff as well. It makes him feel like he has a major part in the day to day decisions that go on in my life.

I write my hubby every day, several times a day about the daily events so he feels like he is still a part of my life. I just write some each time I go outside to smoke, and build up a day or two (or three) and then send it. I also send cards every once in a while, to let him know how special he is to me.

Unfortunately he is on lockdown, so he hasn't received one letter from anyone since he was transferred. :( But, he will get a whole stack of them when mail comes around!

I also write once or twice a day, for 10 years now. There is always something to talk about, even if we think it's petty or boring, he enjoys it. And SAVETIM I agree, it's a great thing to keep them a part of our everyday life.

I write to my husband at LEAST once a day. He writes me daily too. He's in PC so it's easy for him to do so. He gets more mail than anyone else. I send books too, and he passes them to the other inmates when he's done with them. (We can only do that til he's transferred out of county.) He gets magazines too. And I send him $50 a paycheck for comissary. We only get to talk once a week since it's $15 a call, but I talked him into two a week starting next week. It's a 7 hour drive one way to see him but i've managed to see him 3 times in the 2 months he's been gone. If I skip a day (sunday mail) then he doesn't have much to write to me about. His mom writes him almost everyday too.

After he's gone from County, I'll keep sending books for the other guys. We feel SO bad for the guys that don't get mail or comissary money. I know what I'm doing for Christmas!!

Since Mike has been gone a little over 2 months now I am averaging 1 letter about 2 or 3 pages every other day. I also try to send cards and jokes also. On the weekends I will start a letter in the am and just add to it as the day passes letting him know what I am doing, how I am feeling and that sort of stuff. Kind of like a running commentary, so he can feel as though he is here with me.

I write Jimmy every day but only send it out every other day. I send him information he asks for, articles, paper, envelopes, calanders, tape measures (cal & tapes are printed off the net) cards (I print up from the internet) stamps, pictures or anything I think he will like.
I used to buy him cards but it got expensive so now I do them up on the computer. He has asked me not to sign them anymore and is trading them for food and stuff :). He actually is making a little business for himself. I also try to make things colorful, smelly (good smelly :)) and texture if I can get away with it. I studdied the Florida Mail rules and anything I can legally get in, I do.
He has said that the other guys are getting a bit roudy about all the mail he is getting but he just loves it.
He gets USA Today and books.
I do what I can to make his time go a bit easier.
We will hopefully be speaking on the phone next month but he doesn't want me to visit. He says it's just too hard to watch me walk away. I would love to see him and feel his arms around me but I understand and so I don't go. But when he gets home, that will be an entire differnet ball of wax. :)

I write and mail so he gets a letter daily, with the exception of weekends, since there is no delivery. Most of the time, he gets several on Mondays. Boy thats gonna be a hard wait, but im sure by the time he gets settled, I will have a book written.
I cannot get calls (block on phone) and I cannot visit for atleast a year, so Im sure the dailey thing will continue. So far I have written 18 letters, and he has wrote like 25.
My letters are usually longer though : )

Definitely everyday or you better believe I'd never hear the end of it! Just kiddin, I just know how much he looks forward to that mail call and how much it means to him. I keep a letter up in a word document during work and write a little bit here and there...I also keep paper with me so I can write things down all during the day and night - just two or three words maybe for each thing I need to tell him - I find that I always think of things to say to my baby 24/7, but if it's not written down I usually forget half of it!!

When he first went back I wrote 2 letters each day for almost 2 months. I even mailed him a letter before he thought I knew where he went and that made him feel so good.
It has been 5 months and I see him once week. I still try to write him a least one long letter a week. I also send him cards with a brief letter with it usually 2 times a week also. He hardly ever writes me back because he usually only has enough to say in our visits but I don't fret. He loves getting the mail!

I make it a point to write at least two pages every morning to my husband. It's hard to think of a lot to say since we talk at least once a day, so I just tell him what I've been thinking about and what my worries are today. It's all the stuff I've always wanted to tell him, but just never did. At first, I didn't want to make him miserable telling him about all my worries and problems, but he said that he wants to know all of that too because it makes him feel like he's only out of town for a little while.

I write my husband everyday. It helps keep him strong, as well as myself through our time apart. I have binders full of our letters and they are the most important part of me/us. Its the only thing of "true" value that I own. He is my best friend and my soulmate and we always have something to share with each other. I just thank God every day that he is alive and well and that in less than 14 months, he will be home, with me, never to be apart again for the rest of our lives!!

My husband is home now, but when he was in prison, I wrote him every day, at least 3 pages. I also made it a point to find interesting graphics to use to make the stationery interesting - usually tried to tie it in with what was said in the letter.

My husband wrote me daily when he was in county waiting to be extradited, when he was awaiting sentencing, and after he'd been transferred to CMCF awaiting parole release. When he was in the minimum security facility he had a job and tutored guys for their GED, so he didn't write nearly as often. . . but I was so glad that he had something interesting to occupy his time that I didn't mind (so much),

His letters to me from that time are among the most precious things I have!

I try to write to my fiance daily. I send him Bible readings, magazine articles, jokes, my poetry or other poetry I think he'd enjoy, I print email stories etc. that I receive from my friends to send to him as well. We write short, medium and long letters. I send cards, daily words of encourgement, just any print material think he'd enjoy. He writes me every day as well. It's been over 2 years for us. We visit weekly and talk about sll in our letters, just as if we were together at home. Remember I met him in prison so we have a lot more about each other to discover when he gets out. We are in the process of planning our wedding. We are positive about our future, and are not afraid to talk to each other about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING-happy and sad. We try to keep it real. We never run out of things to talk about. Our realtionship is not based on sex, and we know that that will be "the icing on the cake" for us and that we will lay down as friends and that will give our loving so much more depth. We can't wait! He stores my letters in date order, flat. I store his in bundles by the day and month in the evelopes. They bundles are tied with ribbon and placed in a large basket in my bedroom. They are more priceless than gold to me. We plan to read them to each as time goes by when he comes home. He gets lot more mail than most as well, and I always make sure they smell good, are on pretty paper and have some of my lip prints in pretty color lipstick. I even make stationary out of our pictures. Last year I made hand made Valentine coliage cards; three that took me about 15-18 hous to create. (We are past all the games the prison plays holding by holding mail. We know that we write every day. I date and put the time I mail all my lettets on the back lower left corner of the evelope along with a few words of love, and I always seal it with a kiss and tape over my kiss/lipstick so it will arrive unsmeared) I couldn't send the orginal Valentine cards because of the cut and paste involved, but I copied the cards and sent. He will enjoy the 3-d of the card when he comes home.

After reading a letter by ko1 about how important the mail was, I picked up my pace from a couple of times a week to every day. I download info off the net, send cards, my bad bowling scores in league and long romantic letters. He is one happy camper since I started sending him so much stuff. He told me his new cellie didn't get any mail and had no one on the outside even though he's just a kid, so I started writing him too and posted him on PTO for a penpal. He is a much happier little chappie these days.

He loves to hear from me and when i get a letter from him i answer all his questions and add stuff that i want him to know. I talk to him about everything and really don't have or want to talk to neone else about everything so he gets to hear it all. I try to write b4 i got to bed and when i get up in the mornings but with fulltime college and work sometimes i don't get a letter wrote or i don't get by the post office b4 it runs. I write my fiancee everyday and he writes me everyday. That is the only thing that keeps us going from week to week. I keep him posted on his two children that live in the same town as I do. We have known each other all our lives, grew up together but we lived totally different lives. I had always wondered where he was. Then I ran into his sister in law and she broke down and told me and asked me to write him. We have been in contact for almost two years, nov. 16th he asked me to marry him and I said yes. His cellie tells him he gets to much mail. I didn't think you could every recieve to much mail especially coming from the one you love and want to spend the rest of your life with. We have 3 more years of this but we are hoping for early release.

I personally, write often. I never get to finish them, or mail them before I talk to JP on the phone. It is kind of nerve wracking, but sometimes when we talk he is so focused on staying alive and healthy that he doesn't "catch" what I say. He cathes it when it is in print.

The other problem I have is running out of things to say. I will tell him the same things over and over again. Then again, I don't really think that right now he gets tired of hearing them.

Either way, I love him and I am waiting on my application to go through to I can see him. Oh, I have gone and visited him. (with plexi-glass as a buffer) I want to touch the man!!!!!!!!!

I just want to say, that this site has helped me.

Thanks to all of you for the support you are giving.

May God Bless!!!

I usually write my guy every day, sometimes the letters are long, sometimes short. I always include Internet jokes, inspirational pages or articles or whatever might brighten his days, as well. Toward the weekend, I slack off because I know they, of course, don't get mail on Sat. and Sun. Once he has been at a facility for a while, the mail room "Censors" seem to trust me more and must only quickly scan his stuff, because it goes through much faster. We only talk on the phone once a week, so what I write about is my day. I usually write before I go to bed and tell him the same things I would as if we were sitting together in the family room reading or watching TV. I am a firm believer that keeping their vision focused on our every day lives is essential. He doesn't write as often - no surprise - as someone said earlier, they don't have a whole lot of variety to talk about. But, I know he anticipates my letters, even with the embarrassing little pictures and stuff I put on the envelopes.

I write to my husband at least once a day!! I send him drawings and letters from the kids at least once a week and photo of all of us at least twice a month. And cards as much as I can afford to. He is spoiled and so am I. It eases his mind to get mail everyday and to know his girls are all safe and missing and loving him.

When he first went in I would write just about every day. That would be on top of his daily calls which I accepted. When he was transferred off island less than a year after he was incarcerated I wrote him about 3-4 times a week, sometimes twice in a day depending on how lonely I was for him. During that period our letters to each other were all we had because I could only go up and visit him about once a year and where I was staying I couldn't accept collect calls.

But that changed when he came back on-island this April. I've had my own place for over a year now and of course accepted his phone calls again. And when he first came home, I still wrote about 2-3 times a week. But now that he's in the stepdown facility he's lucky if he gets a letter every two weeks from me. But I see him every weekend, we have couples counselling every other week outside of the facility and soon he gets his furlough and then my life as a no-risk celibate will be at an END. ALSO I have finally broken down and got a cell phone and only HE has the number to call me, anytime he likes!

Yesterday my husband and I took a 2 hour road trip and the conversation was ...well, absent. I got to thinking about the letters we used to write back and forth. What the heck did we talk about! :)

Maybe we need to go back to letters! ;)

Sometimes, when you are together, conversation isn't necessary. Besides a lot of the things you wrote about you have probably interacted about every day. The comfort and silence and peace between you can speak volumes. That is what is important.

Last time Matthew was locked up..i sent him atleast 3 things a day. (yeah i know, lotsa postage) Most of the time 1 letter,1card and one manilla envelope with pics and what not in it. All in different envelopes. He prided himself on being the only one locked up getting SO much mail..he loved it..the CO's even commented on it. They used to measure it too..i'd send anything and everything that was aloud..i even got the stickers i put on the letters passed threw. :D Now..that his bail is $100,000, and i can't possibly bail him out for the 5th time..i write him everyday and send it out every other day. He writes me atleast once a week, sometimes two. My letters are a minimum of 6 pages long, front and back,..if it's not that long i don't feel right sending it out,cuz it's not an "Angel letter".. His letters are 1-2 pages, front and back..im the writer he's the talker.. I as well as JoJo71 was locked up for a lil while and she is totally right about how important that mail is. That is basically THE only thing they have to look forward too, and when they don't know it's coming it's the best surprise to see a letter there waiting or hearing your named called at mail-call. k..i vented..time to click "Submit Reply" lol

I also write daily, he told me that if he cant talk to me that is the next best thing. Now him he writes only when they are on a lockdown he said he talks to me all the time so he dont have much to say. I send him letters and card all the time I just send in a Annivery card and a Valentines card and he got them already. I guess the mail is now faster for those who are moving from Lancaster.

Oh I am feeling frustrated! I would write my husband every day if he wanted me to. We have been writing 3 times a week for 5 years but now he is getting out in just 2 months and he doesn't want to write letters anymore! He said he is tired of it. I really miss the letters as we don't have visits. So all we have is 3 phone calls a week now. My phone bill last month was nearly $400 -that's killing me. I feel like we need to communicate now just as much as before and I am one who likes to write my feelings down. He, obviously, is not. So I think he is being really selfish right now. I know he has his mind on getting out, and he is so worried that something is going to happen to prevent that, though I highly doubt it as he is maxing out. So unless he does something really stupid I can't see how he's not going to make it. But I guess it looks different from his point of view. Sometimes he really p**es me off y'know, like about this letter thing. I just re-read my post and it sounds like I need to have a talk with him about this. But then on the other hand I don't want to add more to his stress level so maybe I shouldn't DEMAND that we write each other again. What do you guys think?

My dearest is in Az DR, I am in Europe.
First we wrote 1 or two letters per week, then after a couple of weeks we went over to write 3-4 letters a week.
Mine are typed - from 4-8 pages each. His letter are handwritten and 8-16 pages. He answers every letter of me ´within 24 hours and so do I. I write normally every day of the week and then when a letter comes in, I answer it and up and away into the mail.
If the postage from here wasn't so fucking pricey, I would send more. I pay 2.20 - 5 $ postage for one letter. So this is not really cheap :-(.

A day without writing is like a coffee with no taste. I feel close to him when I write.

I write to Ricky at least once a day, and I send him little things that I think he will like and the kids send him pictures that they have colored too. He says that he gets the MOST mail at the facility, I find that hard to believe but I usually get at least 10 or more letters a week from him. He is doing all that he can to show me that there isn't a minute that goes by that he isn't thinking of me, that is one of the reasons that I love him so much...he always puts me before everything else.

Wow, some of you are making me feel guilty! Those who write once a day or more, I applaud you! I write at least 3 times a week. Some days it's every day, and occasionally, when I am extra busy, it gets down to once a week. For the most part he does get more mail then most, because I also send him cards and postcards in between. I find that if I type the letters on the computer instead of writing them by hand I can write much more. And then I am also able to cut and past articles, jokes, etc. from the internet. But I do go see him once a month so that really helps also!

But I work full-time, go to school part time and our son is in two sports right now. So through all that I manage to write 3 times, while he on the other hand writes only once a week! How is that fair...haha!

I usually write my man at least once a day, sometimes more. Unless I start getting depressed because I haven't got a letter from him, then I get an attitude sometimes and don't write until I get one from him. I'm finding out though that he is doing the same with me. Sometimes it takes forever for him to get my letters even though I am writing all the time and he is thinking I forgot about him then he will finally get my letter so he will write and stay writing until it happens again.

I write about every other day. the last two weeks I was in a rut and didn't send but one letter. I sit down at work and keep word open periodically typing as if I was calling her. Everytime I have something to say I write it down. By the end of the day, I have a nice letter to send out.

I usually write my baby a letter at least once a day, but the last two weeks or so, I have been upset and stressed out and just didn't find the time to write him. I haven't gone to see him in about 3 weeks, and he's only 30 minutes away from me. :( I know that I should, but i just can't. His mom went and seen him last weekend, and promised him I would be there this weekend, so I am for sure going now. I'm excited though. I haven't seen him in a long time. :fb:

Of course, I always answer his letters, but it takes like two weeks for me to get an answer on a letter I sent to him, sometimes I really hate the postal system! I'm a pretty busy person (usually I only get to come to PTO while I'm at work, like right now!) so I right to him when I have the chance. When I'm at the store and I see I card I can't pass up, I pick it up and send it out to him.

This morning while at work (yeah, I know I'm not getting paid to write my baby, but I had a free moment) I wrote him and told him a few things I'd forgotten in my last letter. The letter was about 10 pages so I don't know how I managed to leave anything out. Guess I have a big mouth! LOL

I send a book of stamps worth of letters every single week. Usually about 3 letters per day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
My husband is 2000 miles away from me, and I haven't seen him since October, of 2003, so writing is mostly all we have because the phone calls are 20.00 for 15 minutes, and that averages out to about 600.00 per month if he calls every day.
So, I write alot!!!!
Michael has said that he is just about the only one in H Unit, in San Quentin, that gets that much mail. Even the CO's are shocked about how much mail he gets... I guess after 9 years.. he is worth it... hehehe
He sure is!!!!
23 days to go, until my heart will smile again.....

i send at least 1 to 2 letters a day or more... and then i send photos of the boys, jokes and interesting articles. the day after we returned from our vacation, I sent out 7 envalopes: 2 letters, 2 cards w/letters and 3 with photos from the vacation. I like to send many envalopes cause I think he likes to open them. He has been receiving mail since the begining of Feb and has more letters then anyone there. One guy has been there 8 months and he has more then him. That's sad. Some guys get no mail at all and they like to read the jokes and cards that I send to my hubby.

I write Kevin everyday...plus send song lyrics/poems/cards/pictures...etc! All of my letters are inbetween 6-15 pages. He writes me everyday (or every other day). He said some of his boys come around to see what all he got that day...I also wrote his (old) cellie...he never got mail and so I would write him a short, simple "hello" note and I just always put it in with Kevin's (to save stamps)...but now Kevin's homeboy is his cellie and he gets enough mail from his "wife" (my girl)...I still write Kevin's old cellie ever now and then and put it in with Kevin's and he just gives it to him for me! But...I write him AT LEAST one letter a day!!!

 I write my hubby all day too... whenever I want to talk to him and tell him something. He calls me and tells me that he looks forward to getting mail everynight and that he hates Sundays and Holidays because that means he won't be getting a letter from me. I send him letters, pictures, and lots of jokes to cheer him up. His cellies are always jealous because he gets so much mail. A CO even tried to confiscate the new photos I sent him because they said he already had too many in his cell, so my baby kept his favorites and then he gave the rest to the CO to put on his property so he could get the new ones.:blah: I love getting mail from him because he always does envelope art for me. :p It makes waiting a few days for a letter worth the wait.
