Hi All - My son was transferred to Walker State Prison yesterday. Do any of you know anything about it? What it is like, etc.? He said he was in the dorm that the inmates don't work. Does this make sense? He said it was because he has a 15 year term. I'm not sure I understand that logic. At any rate, he said the premises were nice and that he was outside for 6 hours yesterday. He also said that the dorms were not air conditioned and others had told him to prepare for a very hot summer. He is glad this transfer has taken place (though of course, he was hoping for a county camp - I did not think that would happen). He can begin to get this behind him.

DIRECTIONS:
From Atlanta: I-75 North to Exit 348 (Ringgold/LaFayette). Turn left and travel three miles just past a blue "Pure" sign. Turn right on Mt. Pisgah Road. Travel 5.9 miles to Peavine Church and turn left at bottom of the hill which will be Peavine Church Road. Travel 1.7 miles to a four-way stop and turn right. Travel 4/10 mile to caution light (Highway 27) go straight at caution light for 300 yards. Turn right onto Straight Gut Road and keep bearing to the left for 2.2 miles. Walker SP will be on the right.

Thank you so much for the great info! I really appreciate it. My daughter talked to Jerry last night and he is going to be assigned a work detail. He is really happy about that & I am too. I couldn't imagine why they would not assign a work detail to all. He also said there are drug addiction programs that he is going to explore. All in all, he is glad to be where he will be. I think the not knowing was harder on him than anything.

That is great! My fiance is on work detail at the prison he transfered to and he really enjoys it. He gets out of the prison and his days go by faster now. He's never been the type to just lay around and do nothing, so he is very happy that they have put him to work. I hope Jerry really does consider the drug programs, they can be really effective when the inmate is putting forth the effort.
