JACKSON, Miss. - The Mississippi House and Senate have until the middle of next week to clear hundreds of bills off their calendars. Here's a glance at some of Wednesday's action:
SEXUAL BATTERY: Remove the two-year statute of limitations for prosecution of sexual battery cases. Bill passed House and heads back to Senate.
CORPSES: Set felony penalties for desecrating a corpse, punishable by up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Bill passed House and goes to governor.
BUDGET: Temporarily lift rule that says state can spend only 98 percent of its revenues in a fiscal year to allow spending of 100 percent. Bill passed House and heads back to Senate.
KIDNAPPING: Broaden definition of intent to kidnap. Bill passed House and goes to governor.
INMATE DISCIPLINE: Allow judges to withhold acceptance of guilty pleas until person accused of a crime completes a regimented inmate discipline program. Bill passed Senate and heads back to House.
ATMs: Ban operation of automatic teller machines by any group that doesn't follow same consumer protection regulations as federally insured banks. Bill passed Senate and heads back to House.
