The Winston County Board of Supervisors voted to fill the warden's post at the Winston/Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility, vacant since January, in their Monday meeting.

The board voted to hire Michael Kelly, a veteran of correctional facility work since 1984, at a salary of $42,200 per year.

Kelly, a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University, has most recently been serving as associate deputy warden at Parchman Correctional Facility. Kelly, already certified by the Mississippi Department of Corrections, will be responsible for overseeing the WCCRCF and its approximately 250 state and 45 county and city inmates.

"This is a tough job you are about to take on," board President Jerry Estes told Kelly during the meeting.

"Based on (Kelly's) background, he is the man we need for this facility," said Winston County Sheriff Walter Coburn.

District 3 Supervisor Tom Blalock made the motion to hire Kelly.
