A group of Waikeria prison officers have been stood down again as the investigation into allegations they held another guard down and cut a tie from his neck continues.
The Corrections Department has launched an internal investigation into the conduct of five prison officers, four men and a woman, after an incident at the prison last month.
It is alleged the five used control and restraint techniques on another guard at the prison as they held him down and cut a tie from his neck.
The Waikato Times understands the guard is one of only a few prison officers who wear ties with their uniform.
It is alleged he was targeted twice in one day last month.
The five officers were stood down following one of the incidents and the matter was reported to Te Awamutu police, who last week said they had referred the matter back to the department to investigate.
Following a meeting with management at the prison, the five officers were allowed to return to normal duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
Now part way through the investigation four of the five officers have been stood down again. Waikeria Prison site manager Liz Nielsen confirmed the four officers had been stood down pending a decision on whether they should be suspended.
She said the department was unable to comment on the reasons for the decision to stand the officers down while the matter was being investigated.
