View Full Version : What About FMC Butner? (NC) MyRainbow 04-06-2004, 02:39 AM Does anyone know about FMC Butner? Thank you in advance! moontock 04-12-2004, 08:56 AM I was at FMC Butner for two weeks over Christmas recently visiting my fiance. As far as prisons go, this one was a lot better than most, being a medical center. The visiting room was big, hardly ever crowded. They can't smoke legally, but there is tobacco available as usual. I got to be with him for 6 hours a day, for 10 days, no visiting on Tuesday and Wednesdays. The guards weren't too bad, we did get "talked" to a few times for extra contact, but we did get to kiss some and hold hands the whole time. It is located way out in the boonies, and they are building another unit there. There were state and youth jails surrounding in that same area. They get plenty of food and weren't too restricted except at night locked in their rooms so my man did get around the complex, use the library, be outside often. Unfortunately, my fiance broke off our engagement a few weeks ago, now is being transfered to where his trial is being held, and I have lost contact with him. Maybe it's for the better, I don't know. I'm done being angry, and feel sorta used, but have to carry on. But if you have a loved one there, you should be grateful. It looked really clean, and the mood there was low key and relaxed. Of course it still is a federal prison, plenty of razor wire, people are sent there either for evaluation or to recover from illnesses that prevent them from being able to cope in the general population. There were some really really old guys there, that probably will die there. You wonder why they were there, and how long they have been in. I got to talk with the other ladies that were there visiting over Christmas too. All in all I was glad to see for myself what it was like. Of course, it was just the visiting area and the lobby. Getting in was standard, nothing allowed except a clear plastic container and $20 in quarters for the food vending machines. We played a zillion games of scrabble, there was stuff for kids to do, a separate TV room where they set up video games and movies for the kids. One day they even had cocoa and cookies. I hope this helps ease your mind, I know when all this started I was a mental mess for weeks, and I hardly log in anymore cause it is too painful personally, I wanted to maybe help one other person who is in this situation. And the thing is, I keep thinking I should write to him, but what for, he was the one that pushed me away for whatever reason. And I will probably want to see him when he comes home, just to make sure he really is out. MyRainbow 04-13-2004, 01:13 AM Thanks for replying to my query about FMC Butner! My Dearest is slated for there and it helps me to know a little bit what the place is like. I'll pass on your info. Thank you so much! kintml2u 04-20-2004, 05:56 AM Welcome to PTO! He can either choose NC as his home of record or list his mother's address in Misouri. I know there is a facility in Springfield also. Haven't seen too much about that one. Do you know if they offer any educational opportunities at Butner? My husband was sent to FMC Lexington, which is the pits. Rochester was closer. BOP may decide not to even send him to a medical facility. I'm still wondering what the difference is between a "medical facility" and any other prison. My husband would have been better off at a prison camp. |
