legendarylovers 04-05-2004, 08:29 AM Tim told me about that as well, but unfortunately he said he's pretty sure it's just a rumor. He said rumors of that nature have gone around over and over ever since he was originally locked up in 1999, but I sure hope for everyone's sake here that he's wrong.
akibaby4lyf 04-05-2004, 11:52 AM Hi Cherokee I haven't hear of a bill like this I wish. Here is the govenror E-mail address if you would like to e-mail him and ask him. Governor@state.il.us His phone number is 217- 782-0244 I Really hope this help.
ILOVEFROGGY 04-05-2004, 12:04 PM MORNING EVERYONE,
WHAT THIS NEW BILL IS. i GUESS WHAT THERE TRYING TO DO IS GIVE EACH INMATE EITHER 2 OR 3 DAYS CREDIT FOR 1 DAY SERVED. I THINK THERE CALLING IT LIKE 3 FOR 1 DEAL. I DONT KNOW IF ITS A RUMOR OR NOT, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD THEY ARE CONSIDERING IT BECAUSE OF THE OVER CROWDING IN ILLINOIS, AND CALIFORNIA PRISONS. I HOPE IT GOES INTO EFFECT TOO. LETS ALL KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED!
forevermom 04-05-2004, 01:59 PM Who would this apply to, everyone, even those in for Class X crimes???
jdswifey02 04-05-2004, 04:40 PM rumors as such go around VERY FREQUENTLY... although when these things are considered, 99% of the time it is for "non-violent offenders" only....
Oso's Girl 04-06-2004, 04:01 PM I have heard this rumor ever single year since 1997. They all say that it's on his desk and that they will sign it and it will be in effect by July. However, as you see, I am still here, and he is still there, so every year it was just that........RUMOR. I don't want to burst anyone's hopes. I just know how hard it is to keep believing this and then to find out it wasn't true. ANd no, it has never been referred to being put to use for the Class X felons! That is what we are in there for as well.
TONYGIRL 04-07-2004, 09:11 AM From what my husband told me, it is not a rumor the guys saw it on CNN saw it on television. And I believe more then 20 guys that it is true
Well If It's True It Will Clear Out Some People Really Quick. But They Really Need To Focus On Programs That Keep Them From Returning. If They Don't Do That, Then They Are Going To Continue Having An Overcrowding Problem.
akibaby4lyf 04-07-2004, 10:40 AM I just wrote cnn and asked them if this information is true? Cherokee I think you should e-mail them because they want to know the date and the time that you saw it. As soon as I get there reply I'll let the pto family know.
TONYGIRL 04-07-2004, 11:43 AM thanks, i did the same thing i need to check my email to see if they sent me the information. my husband was going to write me and give me the dates that they saw it. thanks for your help
Oso's Girl 04-07-2004, 12:05 PM OKAY!!!!!!!!!!! Well keeping my fingers crossed then. I will be very anxious to see!

Oso's Girl 04-07-2004, 12:07 PM Sorry, I dont' know why I just quoted Tonygirl, I have no clue what I am doing with this thing. When I want to quote, I can't, and when I dont' want to quote, apparently I can.
Rostonhall 04-07-2004, 12:24 PM Just for reference, the Governor's email address has been changed and you only get it back if you use the one quoted earlier.
Here's the new one:
Governor@gov.state.il.us

TONYGIRL 04-07-2004, 05:40 PM That's ok to quote me, we are family.
kurtis 05-14-2004, 10:58 AM so what did anyone figure out my g/f said she hesrd thae rumor from her warden, but its been almost a month and nothing seems to be happening, so who knows anything else about this?
I Don't Know About Cutting Time Off Sentences For People With Release Dates, But I Heard There Was One For Ending Lwop Sentences. If I Am Not Mistaken (which I Probably Am, But The Year Doesn't Really Matter To Me)the Year Was 1978 When They Started Lwop Sentences In Illinois, And Now These Men From Then Are Getting Up In Age And It's Costing Way To Much Money. It's All About The Money, And Was Told The Governor Does Not Want To Sink Any More Money In Idoc. Which The Pink Slips Flying Around Shows That They Are Compensating For The Cuts. Of Course I Don't Believe Anything Until I See It, But We'd All Like To Hope They Would End Lwop And Adjust Accordingly To The Men Serving That Sentence Now. The Info Came From A Usually Reliable Source, Other Info I've Gotten From This Person On Different Matters Beside Idoc Has Always Panned Out To Be Correct Or Damn Close To It, But You Just Never Know. And Normally I Don't Like To Say Anythign Unless I Know For Sure, But I'd Like To Throw That Glimmer Of Hope Out There For Anyone Looking For It. I'm Not Counting On It Because I Don't Like Being Let Down, But It's Worth A Couple Minutes Of Thought.
jimsenglishgeek 05-14-2004, 12:50 PM This is one persistent rumor. It seems to come up every few months. If there is any such bill, it probably has to do with drug offenders. If he were considering abolishing LWOP, it would be big news. But... one can always hope. A few months back, someone swore they saw something on CSPAN about it, but it could never be found.
jimsenglishgeek 05-14-2004, 01:20 PM I did find one bill, HB6882 93RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY, but not knowing the statute it would replace, I'm not at all sure what it's saying. With what little there is of it on that site, it seems as if it is giving a judge the authority to sentence a person convicted of first degree murder to a term of 60-100 years rather than Life Without Parole. However, juries may still be able to hand out a LWOP sentence. This may all be a way to get around the Apprendi issue. I don't have time to fully research it right now, but have sent an email to an attorney for her opinion. If anyone else has the time, I would love to know what exactly this is.
jeremy n nikki 05-14-2004, 02:39 PM Good afternoon everyone. I just talked to Jeremy for the first time yesterday, and he said when he went in, they automatically cut his sentence down to 6 months. That's not the good time credit either. He said they did this because of the overcrowding in the prisons and they need to get the non violent offenders out of there. He's sending me the thing they gave him. The thing that says his out date, so I can't wait until I see it. Even 6 months is better then 11 months, even if he does serve the whole 6 months. Because with his time served, he'll be out in September. Which, if you think about it, it's not that long.
jimsenglishgeek 05-14-2004, 03:03 PM Uh, no, 6 months is not long. Since many of us are looking at 20 years up to Life Without Parole, 6 months seems like a walk in the park. Not that I would want to do 6 months in a prison.... or one month.... or one day.
lizzi0067 05-15-2004, 05:55 PM jims,
send me the link to the page you were talking about.
Yes, no doubt about it-to be a short timer would be nice-at least compared to LWOP!!!!! I doubt I could survive a day, how the guys do it, I dont know. And to stay in shape and keep their spirits and mental health up, I gotta give them credit. Ive got a smaller bathroom and I laid down in it one day and wondered to myself, how long could I actually stay in there and not go bonkers. Visits are as much for us as they are for them and the break it gives them.
akibaby4lyf 05-16-2004, 02:34 PM I Called the number that I put in the one e-mail and they stated that there is no such bill sorry.
jimsenglishgeek 05-16-2004, 04:32 PM To what number are you referring please?
Rostonhall 05-16-2004, 05:42 PM What we wouldn't all give for 6 months, just thinking about it makes me go bleary eyed!!
