View Full Version : New Here
BxFinestBtCh 10-16-2002, 02:51 PM Hello all I'm new here I would just like to introduce myself. I live in the Bronx. I'm 6months pregnant my childs father/fiance is in jail at the moment. He's locked up in York County Prison in PA. He's serving 3-8yrs. I guess I'm out here to find some support and other people out there in my similiar situation. I've decided to stand by him during his bid and have no problem waiting for him. I write him daily and I see him about 2x a month. I involve him in everything I do. And decisions I make regarding the baby. I was with him when he did a 1-3 in NY. YOu have no idea how I took all those visits to Rikers for granted. Now that he's in PA I travel 4 and half hours to see him for 1hr and 4 and a half hours back. Mind you this 1hr visit is a booth visit. When he gets sent to the State Prison then we can get a contact visit. Anyway thats my story. I look forward to hearing from you all.

Welcome neighbor...My guy is serving time in NY right now.
You'll find great people here to lean on and there are a lot of New Yorkers too.
jnv512 10-16-2002, 02:55 PM Welcome to PTO Christina from a fellow New Yorker. There a bunch of us on here. You should check out both the New York and Pennsylvania Forums. You'll definitely get lots of support here from everyone!
Cameo 10-16-2002, 03:53 PM Hi and Welcome Christina!
I'm sorry to hear about the extended drive and I was just wondering if you've ever tried to ask for a 'special' visit. This entails both you and your fiance to write the warden or assistant warden. It is usually in the DOC policies that if your traveling a certain distance you may get permission for an extended visit. I hope this would be so in your case!

David 10-16-2002, 03:57 PM Christina,
Welcome to PTO.. I am sure you will find much here in the way of support. Definitely do check out the Regional forums. They are still a bit thin but we are building them up daily. You can locate others in your area, or where your man is in prison there.
Again, glad you found us!
David

bella 10-16-2002, 06:27 PM Welcome to another NYer. Glad that you found PTO, it's truly a place for support and understanding. I also agree with Pamela, you sould ask for a special visit. You being pregnant may also help since the drive is probably harder for you to handle. It can't hurt to try. Hope to see you here often.

Gilly 10-17-2002, 10:08 AM Welcome Christina. I'm not sure how things work with the PA DOC, but when I wrote to the prison Superintendent to request a waiver to the odd/even visiting schedule in the NY prison where my fiancé is, the response was that they would make one exception but the rest of my requested dates were denied. The reason was that these waivers were only granted to out-of-state family members only. When I told Daniel of the denial he said he would look into it because there is no reference in the directive stipulating that only family members may request this waiver.
yanigirl 10-18-2002, 07:22 AM Welcome Christina from a fellow New Yorker. Sorry to hear about your long trips to only have an hour visit. That's how I felt going to Rikers. It took me about 2 hours to get up there. My son's father is finnaly upstate and I am looking foward to our hour long visits when I go. Good luck with your pregnancy I know it will be hard doing it without your man there I could not imagine not having mine there when we had our son. I hope you have alot of support from your family and friends if not you got us here.
