Does anyone know if parolees have to be released to the area they were sentenced, or can they choose to be released to another area in the same state?

there are some restrictions about where parolees can go.... I know when I worked in an IL prison a lot of the inmates "parole plans" were rejected, because DOC felt they were asking to be paroled to an area that was "too high risk" (AKA: "the projects") I suppose this is another one that is really dependent on what state/system the person is in and maybe just dependent on who is reviewing the plan.....

Now I don't even know if this is the right name for it but my Partner is incarcerated in Missouri and is planning to parole in Michigan. Something called an "Interstate Compact" I am not sure if the word is "compact" - it is something like that.

Perhaps someone know what I am talking about????? 'cause somedays I sure don't!

dont feel to bad, :) i sometimes dont either. i do know that ( as was just mention) that it depneds on the state and sometimes the crime. i have a dude here that will parole to AZ. His mom however had to move to another town in AZ cause the place she lived at he was not allowed to parole there. i never heard such a thing, either way, that is what his deal is, i have another that will be paroling to Dallas as well.

actually one of my best friends is working on getting an interstate compact approved... he was in prison in IL and wants to move with his mom in Michigan.... I don't think he could get that approved before he got out..... he had to have his mother write a letter to parole saying she would agree to support him, his Parole Agent drew up the papers and had my friend sign them... now they have to go to the state office here in IL for approval, will then get sent to the michigan state office for approval and if they approve it, he will be able to move...... Who knows how long THIS will take!! (but keep your fingers crossed that it is quickly, because in the meantime I am stuck with him!!) :)
