I don't even know where to start. This is totally new to me. I have a friend in prison. He sent me a letter asking me to look for his ad in the Pen Pal section, but when I looked at what I thought was the "Pen Pal " section, I see everyone using computer nick-names.

I have no idea what his is. Is there anyway to find his ad without it??? Where exactly should I be looking?

he doesn't not have a screen name, just the member who posted it does. Look in our pen pal forums and in the appropriate state sub forum. You could also do a search of PTO for his name and that should lead you to the thread that is his pen pal ad.

i'm still trynig to get the hang of this thread thing, right. well anyway, my love is in macon state prison. i'm only about two and a halh hours away. my dilema is we have been together for a year and a half. at first things were blissful. we felt like two teenagers in love, like he was away some where and we're living a long distance relationship. then we hit a snagg, my friends put bad thoughts in my head about how he might jump ship on me when he gets out. that he only tells me the things i want to hear because of his situation. i love him and i don't want to get hurt, but the atmosphere of our relationship has changed. I want so badly to get back to where we were, but i'm having difficulty with letting down my guard. any good advice out there

Teacup you need to talk to him. Express your feelings and come right out and tell him what all is being said and how you so truly want to ignore what others tell you about him. It's a long hard road with things running on a "SOMEWHAT NORMAL" course...the DOC way without others adding more stress to the situation. Follow your heart and use your own judgment. If you feel he will jumpship...then break off the relationship. If you want to stick it out regardless of what "others" say then do it. You can't let others make your decisions for you. They aren't you and they aren't in the relationship. TRUST YOUR HEART...Yes, hearts do get broken, but if you give up because of what someone said you will never know the true outcome.

I wanted to express how happy I am to find a chat room like this. I feel so alone sometimes and forget if you tell people that your husband is in jail they look at you like your ghetto and feel sorry for you. My husband has been in jail now for 1 and 7 months he has 4 more months to go. I feel like the closer we are to his release date the harder it is to hold on. I have a 2 year old and he doesn't even know who his father is. But having a chat room like this reminds me that am not alone. This is great thank you. I wish I would of found it a year ago. :)

You may not have a current version of Java installed and that will make just an empty little box appear when you try to log in.

If you click on User CP on the toolbar at the top of the page... it's on your left hand side, it will take you to your control panel which, if there are not any threads listed there, you will see a link that says... "view all subscribed threads." Click that and it will list all of the threads you have posted in. And you can go back to look at those threads.

These are the message boards... we do have a chat room, but it you won't be able to access it for a bit longer.

Keep posting and hang in there!!!

If you go to the PTO Index Page (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/index.php), scroll down and you will find information about Missouri and about Federal facilites. (I'm not sure if that's a fed prison or not, but just in case...)

Looking at your profile, you joined the 5th of March, so you should be able to access chat after midnight tonight. It's a full 2 week period as well as the number of posts.

There's lots of reasons, like out of envelopes and stamps, behind on mail, etc. And as long as you are his emergency contact, they would have contacted you if something serious happened, but you can always call the facility and they will almost always let you know, at minimum, if he's in general population, which usually means everything is *okay.*

hello to all i am coming up on my 10th year out and have done quite well for my self since my release . the secret to success after prison .first and formost is to except the fact that you ,your self and only your self put you there !! yes i know this is hard because ther are many ineccent people locked up . i my self was one !! accomidation is a misdomenry ,and that is what i did but i got convicted of distro. because i kept my mouth shut .dispite being wrongfully convicted ultimately i know i put my self in the spotlight . so i guess what im saying is this should be a wake up call 4 all not a personal conviction make the best of if go in a boy come out a man set goals . they dont want you to be successfull you are expected to fail .you and only you control your success .in lees than ten years after coming out with less than 94.00 i am worth 500.000 .

Welcome to pto, here you will can and will learn alot about the prison systems of the usa and other countries. To get into the chat you have to be a member for 2wks and have 25 supportive post. You will not find alot of the information in the chat room but in the message boards itself.

First.. we do not respond via emails. All contact here on PTO is completed via posts in threads like this and/or private messages.

You cannot get into our chat room until you have 25 supportive posts and have been a member for 2 full weeks. In the meantime check out our various forums.

I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION HOW DO YOU KNOW ONCE YOU HAVE TWENTY FIVE POSTS? BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS NOW BUT I STILL CAN NOT GET INTO EVERYTHING AND POST ONN EVERYTHING EITHER.

blueyes... look at the right upper corner of your post above.. it tells you when you joined, where you live and how many posts you have. You have 25 posts now and as soon as you've been here a full 2 weeks you'll be able to get into the chat room. It might take the server until the 15th day to catch up however!

Why are the guards so mean and call inmates names. Is it in their Job Description to make fun of them? I just pray they are not guarding the gayes of heaven. They are still children of God. I mst admit my feelings are quite different when it comes to Kilers and Child molesters. May they rot in hell.

I imagine to the Prison System a wrong is a wrong and if you are there you are nobody. Heaven help those that are there and spend years only to be proven they were never guilty. What ever is fair. Right?

Hi - I can enter the Chat Room (I have enough posts and I ve been a member longer than the required time) - yet when I am in the room I can see everything except a text box to type in - also I can not see the messages of other there.
Any ideas or suggestions?

To ask a question, click near the top of the forum, where it says "New Thread"... that will get you a page where you can type in your question... when you've written what you want to ask, then click at the bottom, where it says "Submit New Thread"
If you ever have trouble finding something you posted, click on your own name and choose the option for "Find all posts by..." and you'll go to a list of all of your posts/threads.

Kristin - you won't find inmates on this site. Ex-inmates, about-to-be inmates, boyfriends and girlfriends and parents and children of inmates, but no current inmates. You have to write directly to that person at the prison, by letter, with his number and correct street address. And then wait for reply.

Kristin, If you have never dealt with an inmate before please be careful. If you did not know him before being incarcerated you can find yourself being husseled. I am a ex-wife still involved and know of the rap some of them can say and have you do. Eyes wide open my dear!!!!

The only suggestion i can give is try to keep busy try to see talk to and write your loved one in jail. Try and make them smile "think of all the good thing you'll come home to". Keep them smiling and you keep smiling think of good things happening and with luck they will. I just think of my husband and look forward to the day he comes home and sees everything i've done when he gets home. Think poisitive. I know easyer said then done sometimes but its worth a shot. Trust me. 15 more months upstate ny.

One thing many have to remember is that most of the time they aren't going to find someone or a bunch of ppl who are from the same state, so if they are looking for information about somewhere , they need to search the open boards for it ..

you need to have 25 supportive posts and be a member for 2wks that is all you need to do. the chat room is a small part of pto and you can find tons of information on the boards itself. if you need any help please feel free to ask

Your posts need to be more than just trying to get to 25, so please don't post things like "Hi, I still need 5 posts to get into chat".

Just so you know, this forum is not really for chatting, it is meant to be the place to ask questions about the PTO chat room and to find or schedule specific times to chat.....

Actually the chat room normally has members from a bunch of others states. the chances of finding someone from your state is not always likely.. the best thing for you too do is check that particular state forum ..

i dont get out a lot doing the week & im looking for a pen pale & a chat friend...maybe in looking in the wrong place. it seems to me maybe somone in prision may need a friend or somone just to talk too...i know i need 25 post to join in the chat room...does this even count as a post..oh well,as time goes on, ill get to lern the rules & maybe i will make somones day better...
