Hello !

Spencer told me about this side and that he already posted some of my best friends Articles here.

My name is Sabine, I am from Austria and I am befriended and try to support some of the death row prisoners on Polunsky's death row. My best friend - not only from those prisoners, also in real life - became Paul Colella. As the prisoners were brought from Ellis to Polunsky Unit, he changed so much and he wanted to "go hard". I told him to "cool down" and wait "because everybody is working for you". Last year in May I was the first time in my life in Texas and was able to visit Paul and two other prisoners. Again I told Paul to "cool down" and I will never forget the sad look in his eyes. Since more than a year I told him the same, but it went worse and worse. I have to admit, that my wish for peace, for him to focus on his innocence stopped me from seeing, that something has to happen.

Three weeks after I left Texas, Warden Zeller (whom I met and who was so nice and sweet to me, that I told Paul "the new warden will make everything better") stopped the special visits for Level II and III prisoners. And than was November 2001 and everything went wrong. Since than I can only tell Paul, that he is the man who has to life there and that I will support every step he takes, even it sometimes sounds very hard.

The crazy thing is, that I tried to get public attention for his case for a while, and nobody was willing to listen - since he writes his "uncensored from Texas Death Row" and all the other articles, he gets a lot of attention. Isnt it crazy ?

Well, I close now, even I could write and write and hope, that I will be able to answer your questions - if there are some.

I will attach a photo of me and Paul from my visit in May. I hope you see our friendship on this photo.

Yours

Sabine

Hello !

I tried to post this yesterday evening, but it seams as if I did anything wrong, so I try it again. I really hope that it goes through now. :-)

My name is Sabine and since more than 3 years I write to Texas death row prisoners. At the beginning I thought this would take only about two weeks of my time, but soon I found out that being a friend can not mean to write letters till they get executed. Now I try to help them with setting webpages up and get their storys out.

My best friend became Paul Colella. Spencer already posted some of his writings. After death row came to Polunsky Unit, he wanted to "go hard", but I told him to "cool down" and that people "already take care about it".

I told him this for two long. They are now there since two years, and nothing got better. Everything became worse. Now I can only stand beside him in his struggle and spread his messages and articles.

If you want to know more about Paul you can do this on his webpage at http://www.deathrow.at/paul and if you want to know more about the situation at Polunsky, you can do this here: http://www.deathrow.at/polunsky

I end this with a photo of Paul and me - I had the wonderful chance to visit him and two other prisoners last year in May.

Sabine

Dear David !

Well, it was 15 hours in an aeroplane - last cigarette after 2 hours in Paris, but after this was over I knew that it was the right thing to do. And I met there at the Polunsky Unit people from England, Germany, Italy, Danmark and even two men from Australia !!!!

Thank you for the entry in Paul's guestbook. Isnt it a crazy case ?

Yours

Sabine

welcome and glad that you found us. I know of the problems at that unit.. my husband is doing time in a texas prison so I have learned about a lot of them.. Texas prisons are bad and some call them the worst.. I just have to pray and hope for the best. No prison is good so i try not to be to judgement and create unnessary stress. But that unit is messed up and I can't help to say something. So is the Robertson Unit, it also houses death row inmates.. A lot of riots and people getting hurt.. I hate prison violence most of the time it is a guard behind it some how.

Shortie - where is the Robertson Unit ? In Texas death row prisoners are only at Polunsky. Or do I mix the states ? Sorry, on Monday evenings I am always slow thinking.

Ups - and thank you for everybody's nice welcome. Yes, I am happy to life in a beautiful country, but not everything is okay here also - most of all this ugly government, i still call our new government.

They are housed at the robertson unit too. It is a real hard core unit and they house people who are special cases.. I am not sure what they are but I know there are some death row inmates there.. My brothers friend is on the row and he is housed there..

Hi Sabine, nice to meet you properly! I've only ever met one other British lady when I have been visiting - and that was in the last prison my husband was at. It was nice having someone to talk to and made me feel not so alone. :)
