My sister Jane (who is also in prison in Florida) step-daughter has been in Fluvanna Correctional in Virginia for the last four years. I have not been able to get my niece to answer either my letters or correspondence from Jane. My sister and I will keep trying, but to relieve Jane's mind. Can anyone give us some idea what conditions are like at Fluvanna?

I don't know what the conditions are like, but if you go to Va's DOC website you can get basic info ( population count, etc.) My hubby is at Coffeewood in Mitchells, Va. What is her security level? David is a 2 and it's not too bad there.
Good luck and God bless!

Oh, I forgot. In Va. inmates can't receive mail from other inmates. They'll have to go through you.

Hello, I do know something about Fluvana women's prison, the Warden there is a woman named Patti Huffman. She was the warden at Bland Correctional Center where my husband is for years. She is a very fair decent and compassionate person. I know of one time she fought the commonwealth for the rights of women at her prison to keep their makeup and she won!!!!! I definetly wish she was still the warden at Bland. I'm also with Virginia Cure and I know some of our members know some of the women there and they talk like it is a pretty decent place as decent as a prison can be!

What is Virginia Cure? I don't come across many people dealing with the Va. system. I'm always looking for ways to help David.

Virginia C.U.R.E. citizens united for the rehabilitation of errants, an errant is a person that has lost their way! It is a great organization. I first got involved with them in"1994" while I was in Richmond for my interview with the Parole Board for Larry. They were protesting the Abolition of Parole and I joined right in and was a Board member for years and I'm now the Southwest Virginia Facilitator. We fight for inmate's rights and make sure they are not being violated, we've won some lawsuits over the inmate telephone system we're really involved in so many different things! Look up these websites and you can see, I think all the members would be interested because there is a C.U.R.E. organization in about all the states. www.vacure.org www.curenational.org check them out! Let me know what yall think! Also, thanks to everyone for my welcome!

I know the Florida system better than VA. However, my niece has a life sentence plus 50, so I can only assume, that she is in what my sister calls "close custody". She will be 21 this year. We will keep trying to get her to respond to us. But, I can only imagine her bitterness and think that is why she does not respond. I reviewed the case a couple of years ago and was aghast at what the commonwealth said she did. (I was a paralegal, but have not practiced since we left San Francisco. That was a mistake!)

What really hurts me is that she had run away and the family had tried to find her. Well, I found out where she was quite by accident. When I reviewed her case file - well I had bought this house two months after the murder she was supposedly involved with took place - I can see the apt. house where it happened from my bedroom window - that is how close we were. If only I had found her three months before. But, life is full of ifs. . . .

I will check out the VA CURE site. Thank you, for the information on Fluvanna, I hope it is enough for my sister. If anyone else can give us some info on Fluvanna, please feel free.

God Bless you all.

I should not go snooping in the old posts. I think this was Frisco's first post concerning her niece. No Soraya Frisco's niece has never responded. I think that will hurt both her and her sister Jane for a long time.

Chris,

This is the best I could do. Hope it helps. Now Jane cannot even write through me. Mom and Dad have some contact but it is not regular.

Thanks Patti.

I will try and find out through Angela more of what Fluvanna is like for you.

I can tell you this much, she says there is not much regular trouble. There was a riot awhile back, but aside from that and the usual nothing really big going on.

From what she's said thus far she has no real problems aside from a thieving roommate. :D

My 54 year old sister is at Fluvanna. She has been incarcerated for 5 years. Her story is very tragic, and sad. She was very ill, when the horrible event that occurred happened, and is even more so now. She has been treated atrociously, while at Fluvanna. I know prison is no cakewalk at best....but in my opinion, one should be treated with some dignity as a human being. Her incarceration has been hard on me too. I am a disabled 70 year old, with serious health issues. I have had to be the one to help her most, because I am in Va. BUT the place is at least 150 miles from me...and it gets harder and harder for me to visit her. Sometime after the first of the year, I am going to send a Petition, along with a request to the Governor of Va, for a Pardon for her. I pray she gets it...if not...I fear she may die in there, ill as she is. I would be grateful if some of you might take a few minutes and visit her site(Mercy for Cindy/Justice Denied). AND if you would, pls sign the Petition for her. The link for it is below....Thanks so very much....

My sister has had a terrible time there. My opinion of that facility is very poor. I have had to beg, plead, and anything else I can...to just get a bit of help for her. They do not feed them enough. My sister, who has been incarcerated 5 years, has had a very hard time. She is totally disabled. She is "forced" to do work in housekeeping, that she is really unable to do. She lives with severe, unrelenting pain, and is not properly medicated to address it. She is written up just for the most tedious, weird, little things. For one, she was hungry, and sitting on bed eating cereal. Not hurting anyone or anything. Can you believe it? They are written up(points against their release time)for all sorts of silly things. I worry about her all the time. I am not able to visit as often as I would like. Her physical and mental health both are poor. I have had to contact the Warden, over and over. You might try that, as a last resort, to find out how your sister is....:)
