ladies...the more research I do on this parole thing, the worse I feel.
All the stats on parole release is crazy...85 percent of his time has to be done to be considered for parole. But why goive some a hearing if you know they haven't served enough time on their sentence? All this other stuff...IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! I guess I am just geting frustrated with the looking at is chances of coming ome in 2005 when his max out date is 2013.
thank you for letting me vent!!

It's also good to remember that the times they are a-changin'... with states' budget crisis and prison overcrowding, things are changing fast and more people will have to be paroled, there's no way around it!

What do they say? Always hope for the best and prepare for the worst... keep thinking positively.

how is that they have to do 85% of their time before they can get paroled? really? To be honest, I never heard of this. Who told you this information? and anyway, this cannot be true because many guys are being released without that -releasing someone for parole is based on what they feel like doing at the time he goes up. it is all political.

Hang in there...I am dealing with the same thing in Ohio. The Parole board gave extended flops and there is a pending lawsuit by the inmates. It feels like everything is up in the air and we walk away with such uncertainty. At the end of the day, all I can do is be there for my sweetie and love him.

In Florida an inmate incarcerated after a certain time(1995) now has to do at least 85% of his time. No more parole here. And we have severe over crowding. they just keep giving the FDOC more money and more dorms are being built. My man plead no contest and took a 20 year deal. He'll have to serve at least 85% of it and he got credit for 4 years in county. There's no way he can get out before the year 2015 un less there is some kind of miracle here in Florida. Anyway babygirl24 I feel your frustation and you are in my prayers. It does get frustrating ( as you can tell if ya read any of my posts:) ) Hang in there, every one tells me it will get better. And some days I actually believe them. (((HUGS)))

thanks Spikeswife...today is a better day.
I am thinking of having him file an appeal for his sentence...because he also has a 20 yr sentence but no evidence was presented during his trial. So I am hoping this will help...maybe give him time served or something. Just hoping for the best and waiting for the worst. :)

I spoke to my husband today and he told me in New York, you have to do 85% of your time if you have a FLAT bid...in order to get parole. Some people have sentances like 12.5-25 and should be eligible for parole at 12.5...
I think I got it

All the states vary when it comes to parole, and would you believe some states still do not have parole at all, it is flat time... in Pa. where my guy is, you must do 50% of your time to be eligible for parole.... or reach your minimum. Its tricky, because say if your doing a 20 to 30 year sentence, youd be eligible for parole at 15 years, yet your min. is 20 years... so what usually happens is they will give you a parole hearing at the 50 % time, and give you a "hit" meaning, you wont get a parole at your hearing of 50% time served.... and they will probably continue it until your min. sentence... nasty little bag of tricks the DOC has there... :(
