Hi! With Easter coming up, I would like him to have a cross and chain (now I know not every one on here is a Christian, and NO WAY am I endorsing any religion - just asking a question...) But for those that are, I was wondering - if I wear one to visitation can I give it to him? Are they allowed? When I was there last week on visitation I noticed several guys wearing them and it got me to thinking. So it appears they can - unl;ess they are just "getting away" with it? I called the Chaplain and asked him if I could send him one to give him and he said NO. What is your take on this? I wanted to have the cross blessed with a special prayer to keep him safe. I'm hoping there is some way of giving it to him that I don't know about - other than visitation, and I would never do anything to wrong to jeopardize that. Thanks, Zoe

as far as I know you cant give them anything at visitation and my friend gave her guy some stamps and got suspending from visitng for 90 days ..so I think a wedding ring is permisalble with ..but you should ask you guy to find out ..I know I have seen some guys wearing a cross but it was more like a rosary type thing or I think they can buy one ...but all together I think it would be a little more trouble than its worth if someone takes it and fights happen ..all those factors ...you know year I bought some really pretty pictures of the virgin de guadalupe and of the sacred heart of Jesus and they were 8'10 and I took them from the frame and mailed them ...he really liked that and even some of the other guys wanted one...oh by the way (catholic) have a good one

Thanks luisychirs, that is what I was kind of thinking too - that it's not worth it. I like your idea of the pictures, I may just go with that and be safe. Suspended 90 days for stamps, boy that would really stink!

Hi Here4you4ever,

I know they keep a record on their books as to what they have. When we got married I had to bring a copy of the receipt with a $ value restriction so they could put it on his property list. They know if they have a TV, electric razor, how many books or cassette tapes...whatever. When a guy leaves he can't even give his TV to someone else. They have to buy their own. We spent $257 on a 13" color TV for him. Since he got 10 years, I decided he needed a TV, but come on, that would practically get a 32" TV at Walmart!!! People used to be able to buy them at Sears and have them shipped it. Now the only thing we can buy and have shipped from the store are books and music. And the cassette tape has to be factory sealed.

You might ask if he knows someone who makes them inside and offer to buy it for him. He can have them make it and you put money of the other guys books or put it on your guys books and have him buy the other guy stuff from the store to even it out. There are lots of guys who do hobby craft to earn extra money and make some really beautiful cards and gift items.

Otherwise, just send him a beautiful card and maybe a photo of the cross so he can see what you have for him :) Sometimes the thought is all that countGood luck!

My husband would like a cheap copy of his wedding band and I saw something mentioned about being able to have one. Is this true? If so, how do I get it to him? Thanks for the help.

To get it approved you would have to talk to either his couselor or maybe the chaplain could help?

Since we got married inside, I could bring a ring and the receipt. I think the dollar limit was $200 (maybe $250) so there won't be fighting over it.

I probably wouldn't risk it, but you could wear it in and let him wear it out, but he if doesn't have a ring on his books and they notice he could get in trouble. I guess it depends on the yard.

Did they make him send his out when he was arrested, or was he not wearing it?

You could try a plain band from walmart or target. It would be under $50.

Good Luck!

Most of the jewelry they wear is on "old-timers", guys in before the law changed on allowing it. Now they do not allow jewelry unless you are married inside. However, when I was in Perryville, they did have crosses and chains available for purchase thru the chaplain, but they had to be bought from inside and they were always out of them. So if you'd like your man to have one, the only legal way is for him to purchase it from the chaplain (if there are any available).... Good luck! Hopefully I will get approved for visitation and can get married this year - then me & Magic can wear our rings.

Hey there hope this can help you as a former Co at Lewis Stiner Unit and also a Visitation CO they have a really strict policy on what is worn in to visit and when they strip them out at the end a list of all they have on is recorded so if you did try to do that you could get suspended for 90 days and the bare minimum. As I was also the Inmate Store CO they have a list of religious items that they can special order, they start at about 15$ an go up, you can out the money on his book so he can order one but that's ll you really can do. Hope this helps some feel free to ask me any questions if you need help pm me. Have a great visit!!!!!!
