Halfway Houses & Transitional Homes For SISP Parolees
Finding a halfway house to parole to for a non violent offense is one thing, but finding a place to parole to when youíre released on SISP is not as easy. Many of the halfway houses and transitional homes that will accept someone on SISP with a violent crime will not work with someone who has been convicted of a sex crime. Itís also the reason why state operated halfway houses like the Wayback House and the Ben Reid Facility in Houston are always tight on bed space and take so long to be released to once parole has been granted. Most halfway houses require that you fill out a request to be accepted for residency in which theyíll do a back ground check and inquiry on you to determine whether or not theyíll accept you. The Wayback House and Ben Reid do not require a request to be submitted. You cannot ask for residency or placement in one of these type facilities. You are mandated by the parole board to reside there. Thatís why in a round about way, thereís really no such thing as not having a place to parole to even though the SISP stipulation creates a lot of closed doors among many potential aftercare facilities. Youíll always have a place to go to when granted parole on SISP, but it may take longer to be released if you have to go to a state operated halfway house in order for an available bed to come open.
All of the halfway houses listed below will accept someone for residency on SISP who is on parole for a violent offense, but some will not accept anyone convicted of a sex offense.
