My man is at Allenwood Pa. The crime took place in NYC, he will be on supervised release for 3 years when he comes home. We reside in NYC. We are interested in moving to New Jersey. How does this process work? I know need to move there ahead of time, but how much ahead of time? But then what happens if he gets denied? What are the chances of that happening? and when does he need to inform them about transferring so he can go to the New Jersey halfway house.. Thanks

He just needs to request (from the Unit "Team") that his case be transferred "for release purposes." That should be done immediately after a new residence has been established. Probation will approve after the Bureau sends the request.

No but it might take a while for the Probation department of the new district to get all the paperwork done. I took them 8 months for me but I was still in custody and there was no rush.. He should let his team know his plans at about 1 year short.

Lisa-
Follow both of John and Howard's advice. They are right on the money.

Just remember that the transfer (for release purposes) would be to another district - not state. Although, some states are also federal court districts, most contain several different districts. Accordingly, be specific and it will help eliminate any unnecessary delays.
