I need some advice on what to do.....Please Help!!!!!! Here is the situation, my boyfriend has been locked up in the Idaho prison system for 5 1/2 years, during that time he has been at every correctional facility; except ICC-the private prison. I have always been APPROVED to visit him. As most of you know, we need to resubmit our visiting apps yearly. Well I resubmitted my visiting app. this year and I was DENIED!!!! I haven't seen him for 1 1/2 years because he got in trouble and got his visiting privileges taken away for that long. He is currently at IMSI in AD SEG. because of getting in trouble and the prison-- I think takes him as a threat. So they DENIED my app based on "extensive criminal history" however my criminal history has remained the same pretty much-however I got another DUI in July 2003-a misdemeanor. I think that they are just using that excuse so that can be assholes. I Thought...according to the DOC visiting rules--the criminal history that is cause for denial is felonies within 10 years and drug charges within 5---I DON'T have that!!!! I'm going crazy right now and I'm extremely upset!!!!! They can't take away my visiting privileges---that is all I have in this world without him at home---they might as well rip my heart from my chest--that wouldn't be as painful as this is!!!!!
What do I do?? Who do I contact???? I have tried to call the visiting officier who doesn't answer his phone and won't return my calls. I need advice on what to do from here!!! Please help!!

Chrisstar: I don't really have an answer for you about Idaho, but I wanted to respond to this to bring the thread back up to the top so that maybe someone can come along to help. I am sorry about your visits, and hope that something works out so that you can get them back soon. AND, last but not least, welcome to PTO.

Have you tried to call the warden to find out why you were denied? I would try and call him and let him know that you were denied and nobody in visiting will call you back. If that doesnt' work then let me know because I have a few email addresses that I can send you that will get you some answers. My fiancee is at ICC and hasn't been at IMSI in a long time, but because ICC is still overseen by the DOC I have had to make contact about differant issues. Keep me posted and I will help you however I can.

Well first welcome to PTO. You are in the right place for support first and foremost.

I dont have any specific knowledge of Idaho laws, however, I would first contact the Warden and if that doesnt get you anywhere, then the Commissioner over the DOC.

Each state is so different with their rules. However, for the most part, it is usually just felonies they are concerned with visitors having on their records. Even that sometimes has been overlooked due to circumstances.

Even though your recent DUI, was a misd., was it alcohol or drugs? If it was drugs, perhaps that is what the problem might be.

I wish you luck and dont stop trying to get answers. Be persistence. Persistence pays off in the long run.

By the way if you cant get a response from the DOC, it took me almost two months on a issue I had, then contact the Governor with all of the details.

Here in my state, the DOC is accountable to the Governor and when he doesnt do his job, then it is time to climb the ladder my friend.

Remember Hope is a good thing, it springs life eternal.

I was in this system from 1990 to 2001 for armed robbery. And I want you to feel free to write me and ask any questions. I was at every institution except the work releases, and even shipped out of state three times. ---My advice to you about your visits, is to not stop short at trying to contact the visitation officer. I would go further, and try to contact the Deputy Wrden of Administrations.

Welcome to PTO!!!

This post is pretty old so chances are the situation has been resolved in some way or the other. I would love to see a introdution thread in our Idaho intro forom. I am sure you could be a lot of help to those with questions on Idaho prisons.

Chrisstar: Are you and your man married? Or do you have children together? I have heard of that making a difference. I had a friend once who was denied to see her baby's dad because of criminal history so she called Olivia Craven, the head of the parole commission and pleaded with her. It worked eventually and she was granted visiting priveledges.
