Can you imagine if it was one of us that done this, they found 5 gun silencers, we as Australians without power would be put away forever, they wouldnt even consider us bail. I just found this amusing.
A Victorian police officer has appeared in court charged in relation to a major tobacco stealing ring.
A Melbourne magistrate has granted bail to the suspended officer, 30-year-old Senior Constable Troy Holmes.
Holmes was charged over the theft of 34,000 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes worth $1.6 million in excise duties.
The cigarettes had been seized by Customs and were stolen from a Melbourne shipping yard in January.
The Melbourne Magistrates Court was told police allege they found five gun silencers when they searched a house belonging to Holmes.
The court heard Holmes was already on bail for unrelated perjury charges.
Four other men have been charged in relation to the theft, including former Australian Federal Police officer and Australian Tax Office investigator Kevin Dickson, 41, of Box Hill.
Police allege Dickson organised the theft and he was also granted bail on a $75,000 surety.
Dickson and his co-accused are expected to reappear in court in June.
