View Full Version : Anyone have any advice?Brother wrongly convicted
mlynnm 03-16-2004, 06:15 PM I'm writing in regards to my brother who was wrongly convicted of 2nd degree murder. He was sentenced to 16 - 25 years. He did not commit this crime and he shouldn't be in prison for this. I need advice on how to get him out of prison. We filed an appeal but won't hear anything until this coming fall, that's a long while away.:ha: My brother has been incarcerated for almost a year, all because someone lied.I am outraged! Can anyone help me and my family?
Sincerely,Mel!
BrotherInPrison 03-16-2004, 07:21 PM a great lawyer, community support, maybe some press interviews will go a long away. so sorry to hear this terrible news.
Dre'sbaby 03-16-2004, 07:52 PM a good lawyer is the best advise. If you have the money, they will do almost anything to get him off. My baby's brother went through the same thing, ended up doing ten years until the person that lied came forward. The only good thing that came out of it, is that he is a millionaire now. He suied the prison system and is currently suing the officers that created evidence to help convict him.......good luck

mlynnm,

shawecbc 06-15-2004, 11:30 AM I know how you feel. My brother is facing 11 years for something he didn't do as well. He has been in for 6 months. I'm sorry that the prison system is so corrupt to convict innocent people without any proof. We are looking into an appeal as well!!
nettie 06-23-2004, 02:04 PM feel your pain... I have a similar story with my son... He is doing 30 years...unless his lawyers are able to appeal his sentence, and if the State of Virginia passes the bill SB75 Good Conduct Allowances for Prisoners, which can mean up to 50% of the time reduced, I probably won't see my son leave prison either... I felt as you, responsible... It's understandable...but healing is what you, I and everyone else need to do... We can't change the pass, but we sure as hell make the best of the future before us... For the remaining days of my life, while my son is incarcerated, my plan is to live life to the fullest to the best of my abilities...I have incorporated my son's situation into my life style, meaning for me, I take the 9 hour each way in-state trip, once a month to visit him, we talk at least once a week, I write him regularly, it's no picnic, but it what it is... And for my son, he has so much guilt about messing up my life and embarrassing him with his crimes...all he ask me to do is to live... For the first time in two years, my husband and I are leaving the country to go on vacation... We earned it... I go out and have connected back with friends... I no longer bury my head in the sand feeling sorry for myself, for I am not alone, we are all in this together, though our love one crimes may differ, the positions are all the same, they are incarcerated!!! So, I plead with you to not blame yourself, for you are not God... God knew, but we must trust that he has put forth a true plan for our love ones to live by... Today, I can say my son is much better than he was prior to being incarcerated and he never gave me a days bit of pain ever... This is his first offense ever... But his heart, his soul was lost... So, if you ask me which is more important, that he not be incarcerated or that he is a better human being and has found his self, I take the better human being and finding his soul any day.... As my son constantly write to everyone, Though I may be locked up in a prison, but prison is not inside of me... God is so Good, He is always on Time, and I have lived to see the day that my son, has become an Asset to himself, to me and for society...and whenever he is release, I believe society can rest assure that he will bring no harm to you or any one else...
We must stop thinking about the number of days, years of incarceration, and think of the moment, today and hope for tomorrow... Who knows how long yours will be incarcerated... Things change all the time. And even if he does have to do those years, his life isn't over... It isn't over until it's over... There are many great people whom lived life to the fullest within the bars of prison. You know what is sad, to see free people walking the street, brain dead from drugs, having to sell their souls for drugs daily...dealing with all types of illnesses and diseases... This is sad, so life isn't about being incarcerated, its about living it. Being in the Best of Health. Knowing that Your Health is Your Wealth, physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally... If you have this, you are alive and well... You are "Blessed"...
All the Best
babykat 02-01-2005, 10:12 PM I to have a brother who was sentenced for a crime he did not commit.
dmdonna1963...do u know if this attorney will help people out of the state of oregon?
My brother was put in a county jail in 94 and just served 10 and has atleast 30 more to go. I do not want to go into details about his situation just that he was convicted on murder but we believe he was framed by some of the other people who was there the time the crime was commited. We have tried appeals and anything we could think of. The proof that the courts had matched nothing to prove my brother did it, does any one have any advice for me as well?
titantoo 02-01-2005, 10:18 PM You might find this helpful. At the very least I am sure they can give you useful advice
http://www.truthinjustice.org/ips.htm
Innocence Projects Innocence Projects provide representation and/or investigative assistance to prison inmates who claim to be innocent of the crimes for which they were convicted. There is now at least one innocence project serving each state except Hawaii, North Dakota and South Dakota. Most of these innocence projects are new and overwhelmed with applications, so waiting time between application and acceptance is long. Wrongfully convicted persons should not be dissuaded from applying to Innocence Projects because of this, but should have realistic expectations regarding acceptance and time lags.
