Subject: Unmarked police car warning

This number actually exists here in Australia.read this!! & then send
it to all your friends!

I never even knew about this No. 112 feature! This actually happened to
someone's daughter. Lauren was 19 yrs old and in university. This story
takes place over the Christmas/New Year's holiday break. It was the
Saturday before New Year's and it was about 1 PM in the afternoon, and
Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up
behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have 4 children (high

school and university age) and have always told them never to pull over
for
an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather wait until they get
to
a petrol station, etc. So Lauren had actually listened to her parents'
advice, and promptly called Ph No. 112 on her mobile phone to tell the
police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded
to
tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a
flashing
red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if
there
was a police car where she was and there wasn't and he told her to keep
driving, remain calm and that he had back-up already on the way. Ten
minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her.

One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind.

They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the
ground.........the
man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes. I never knew
that
bit of advice, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not

pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your
right
to keep going to a "safe" place. You obviously need to make some signals

that you acknowledge them (i.e., put on your hazard lights) or call No.
112
like Lauren did. Too bad the mobile phone companies don't give you this
little bit of wonderful information. So now it's your turn to let your
friends know about No. 112. This is good information that I did not
know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please pass on to any females that you know ..

LoL Kerrie, me either, I told my friend that we were setting up a prisoner support group for Australia on PTO, and he sent me that. Knowing my luck, I would keep driving, and be shoved in jail for refusing to pull over or something.
Im not game to try it either. I will keep you posted

MY MOTHER IS A RETIRED DET. SGT. SHE ALSO TOLD ME NEVER TO PULL OVER UNLESS IT IS A "CLEARLY MARKED" POLICE CAR. BUT I AGREE, WITH MY LUCK I'D BE ON THE 5'OCLOCK NEWS IN A POLICE "CHASE" LOL

I am a bit skeptical, while I dont doubt the 112 # it sounds a bit like an urban myth. Anyway, good advice not to stop for any unmarked car.

LMAO Nemisis, thanks for that :). The stories are identicle, but they call #77.
It certainly had me fooled LMAO... Poor little Lauren has been through hell and back around the world.

I cant believe I called 112, I was trying to work out how the dispatcher can give out that info.
thanks for that.

This precise story might be a myth but I would be willing to bet that some rapist, somewhere, has found a victim by "pulling her over." The advice to proceed to a safe place is good advice regardless and true here in NY too.
In fact we just had a police department investigated and shook up by the Attorney General's office for "profiling" foxy ladies for traffic stops among other corruptions...

Here in the states, I do believe the number is #777 to use this feature.

Thanks for the heads up though Kyla, this is invaluable information.

Yeah I was going to call 112 as well, then I thought what if they could trace it to me? I thought the most unbelievable part of the story was the 4 police cars turning up in 10 minutes. Around here its hard enough to even get them to come out to the front desk if you turn up at the police station in person (you can usually hear the tv blaring out the back where everyone is).

Nemisis,
Your still in Australia right?
When I dialed it on my cell phone, it came up emergency number, but I hit end real quick, trust me.
My daughter called the cops on my the other morning, cause I forgot to pay the cable, and at 5am, they turned up. She told them someone stole her disney channel, I had never felt so embarresed.
The day my husband was arrested, most of the drama was cause the cops were slow at turning up, it was a Saturday, they hadda finish there coffee first I swear. I know how that is, he goes three times a week to sign in at the front desk, and we are buzzing, waiting, buzzing, and when you finally get one, its like rude, like "how dare you interrupt whatever we were doing" (probably nothing)
I was pulled over on Friday night for a random breath test, on a dark road, I saw his light go up, and pulled over, didnt even consider any of this. I dont know, its good to know, but as I said, I reckon I would find my a$$ in the watchouse for trying to escape on a breath test or something like that. LMAO... I can just see me calling 112... excuse me, is it ok for me to pull over this time.
Who knows :(

Yeah Im still in Sydney. I have found the police to be pretty rude too. I have been to different police stations, they all seem to have the "I cant be bothered" attitude.

Kylas I had no idea that we had a seperate number to call besides 000. This is big news. Do you know if this national or just various states. I am tempted to call the number and get some info. My teenage neice needs to know this number since it is an emergency number.

Good work everyone

I just did a quick Google search of emergency phone numbers in Australia. It seems 112 is the number you ring from a mobile phone. I thought 000 was the number no matter what phone you used.

check out www.parasolemt.com.au (http://www.parasolemt.com.au) it states it there.
