mleschild 06-27-2004, 02:41 AM Thank you for the information on the Sheridan facility. My son entered the camp on June 21. Does this information you post also apply to the camp?
I'd appreciate any information you may have.
Emily
kintml2u 07-01-2004, 06:25 PM This information was offered by a prisoner of the FCI so I can't say it goes for the camp as well. They do vary a bit...
Zelda50 08-02-2004, 06:32 PM The Federal Prison Camp at Sheridan, while right next to the FCI, is different and has different rules, visiting times, etc. The camp is minimum security with no fences. The FCI is medium custody and has razor wire all around it. I don't know information about the camp visiting rules, times, and points. Zelda
TragicsLady 08-28-2004, 01:59 PM My fiance was in FCI Sheridan about 2 months ago and I just wanted to corrct the address for you.everything is okay but the" P.O. Box 6000"
onherown 08-28-2004, 02:44 PM I am not sure about FCI Sheridan, but my husband is at the Camp side and it is a requiremnt before you leave to have your GED.
Also, maybe they serve different food, but I do not consider a piece of chocolate cake for breakfast to be good food! What they serve is minimal, high carb, and unhealthy. Most guys there loose a bunch of weight, or get fat because the only commisary food they suppliment it with is junk food. My husband is lucky to be a great cook & tries to teach the other guys in his unit.
haley657 08-29-2004, 05:27 PM Does anyone know the cost per minute of phone calls at Sheridan FCI and/or FPC?
Is it still 20 cents per minute or $60. for 300 minutes?
Is it less for local calls?
Zelda50 08-30-2004, 12:13 PM My understanding is that the rate varies according to where the inmate is calling. The inmate transfers whatever amount he wants from his commissary account to the phone account and then can call until he uses up that amount - or until he uses up the 300 minutes per month. They can place more money on their phone account at any time as long as they have it in their commissary account to transfer. So, with this understanding, the local rate would be different than long-distance. Zelda
Mother-of-teen 09-01-2004, 10:13 PM I'm new. My son is at the Sheridan Correctional Center, on 4017 E. 2603 Road.
He mentioned to me he might have the oppertunity to go on a work release program in the spring. Can anyone tell me more about the work release programs, where they are located, or how they work? He has not obtained his GED yet, will that be happening first, before he would be sent out? (Were from Streator.) Where could my son end up? Thanks for any information, this is all new to me.

MMP2004 01-02-2005, 07:53 PM Hey, how ya doin? My husband has been at Sheridan camp since 11/15/04 - here are a couple of links to info I've posted on other threads:

Hopefully that helps some. Have you ever been in an FPC before? This as our first time having to deal with any of it and we had a HECK of a time trying to find info before he went in. Let me know if you have more questions and I will try to answer them for you.
belikerock 05-06-2005, 01:54 AM Hi Myn Husband will soon be entering Sheriday prison camp. He has bi-polar disease. Anyone know how people with mental illness fair in Sheridan Prison camp? anything else a spouse should know ahead of time?
Thanks so very much
wildthing 05-24-2005, 10:34 AM The zip code for the FCI is 5000, the zip code for the FPC is 6000 :) They get 12 points per month at the FCI and 20 points per month at the FPC. Points are taken 2 for a weekend visit and one for an evening visit! There is NO per hour system!!! :)
BoredGoat 08-17-2005, 02:20 PM Any newer info on Sheridan (FCI and FPC), especially after the triple-bunking and lockdown issues? Some of the info here is a bit dated.
Zelda50 08-18-2005, 11:34 PM They haven't had any problems or lockdowns lately. For awhile, the triple bunking was halted but then they resumed it again, so I think everyone is triple-bunked now. They got a new dentist and the dental services improved - that's what I've been told. It's a pretty mellow place unless a couple of rival gangs are moved in at the same time. Then there are problems until they're moved back out again. Zelda
BoredGoat 08-19-2005, 10:50 AM Thanks, Zelda, we're still not sure where my husband will be just yet, but Sheridan is likely, and he'll be classified as a "low" (we believe), and we're not sure if they even deal with that category - BOP says that Sheridan FCI is a medium and the camp, of course, is minimum. Do you know if that's accurate?
sparks420 02-01-2008, 01:07 AM i found this site while attempting to research fci sheridan ~ and am hoping that i can learn a little here.
my fiance is there in sheridan - and has been for a couple of years now... but, though i drop subtle questions here and there in letters - he never talks about the prison or his life there - except to say that work tired him out. i have a feeling that his letters to and from me exist in a world separate from prison for him... and as such, don't really want to press the issue. but regardless - i'd really like to know more about the prison - not just the stats, but the reality of it. what life is like there, the general ins and outs of it all... it's hard for me - not knowing anything about this place that is, has been, and will be for the next 4 years - his home.
so, in short, if anyone could help me out with this, i'd really appreciate it.

Zelda50 02-01-2008, 12:43 PM Hey Sparks! Is your husband at the camp or the FCI? What sorts of things do you want to know? What kind of work does he do? I know some things though my husband doesn't talk a whole lot about what goes on inside unless I ask specific questions. I think, to them, it's just "routine" and they don't think of it as anything out of the ordinary worth talking about. My husband used to work in the UNICOR furniture factory but they shut that down. From what I gather, there is no longer a whole lot to do there - not many classes or jobs. They're in the middle of changing wardens so I'm hopeful maybe things will improve. They have cells there, not dorms. There is an RDAP unit, I believe. There are TV rooms in each housing unit, which are segregated by culture and then one is dedicated to sports- but that may differ from unit to unit. There's a track. There's a gym with treadmills. Some things are done on a group reward system - like the unit that has the cleanest cells gets to go to chow first. There are several different religious groups that are active - and not just the mainstream ones. Ask away! Z.
