I've been reading a lot here but this is my first day at trying to post something. My friend's husband is in prision and she asked me if I would write to his friend who is there so I said ok. We have been corresponding since Nov 2003 and talked on the phone a few times. I've really fallen for him so I'm pretty confused. I tried surfing the web to try and find out information because everybody says prisoners will try to scam you. Anyhow, I came across this site and have been stopping in to read about things. Thank you for all of the insight I have gained.

There are certain things to be aware of and it is:

Does he ask for money or favors/errands
Does he want x-rated letters
Does he want nude photo's
Does he claim innocence
If he do two of these abovementioned things I would be really careful and do a background check which is pretty easy to do on the net or you can hire a professional

I would always say be careful of anyone you meet in an unusual way. I was even cautious in the beginning with my husband. I may have known him and been with him as a teen, and we even had a child together, but since we had been apart 20 years I needed to really get to know him and know I could trust him. But I do read that there are guys who will try to get several women outside to think they mean something just so they will take care of him. Your guy is probably for real since you met him through someone you trust, but I would be careful anyway.

Again, thank you for writing. I will take any and all advice people have to offer. People I know keep telling me to watch out for scams but until you wrote I had no clue as to how they might try to use someone. My friend just knows of him from her husband so I can't say they know much about him. I'm all confused about this....
