Hey everyone, I'm from California, but I just received this in my e-mail and thought I would post it for all of you in the great state of TX. Now get busy and send your e-mails!!

ACLU TX is involved in a project that involves getting photos and short biographical sketches of Texas state inmates and their families. Their goal is to get legislation passed next year that will reduce sentences for non-violent offenders and put the mandatory back into good time mandatory release. They want to show the legislators that inmates are people with families, not just numbers and that the whole family suffers from the draconian sentences.

A few years ago the TX leg. passed a law that made inmates go in front of a hearing to see if they could take their good time. Needless to say, most have been refused.

This project will benefit many of you, so I urge you to participate. If you are willing to do so, please respond directly to

Karen Heikkala
Regional Director
Drug Policy Forum of Texas

at heikkala@bga.com

Thanks for your help with this project.

Well, I got a response back from ACLU. They said they were more focused on drug offenders and their families. ACLU may later work on offenders with cases of the violent nature (agg. robbery, assault, etc). Oh well, it was worth a try, huh?
