OK, this didn't happen IN prison, but it was ABOUT prison, and it was just so funny I thought I would share it here so y'all could have a good laugh along with me...

As some of you know, I work in a doctor's office. Well, in some very weird stroke of irony today... we saw a patient today who just happens to be a CO at a prison somewhere in this general tri-state area. It just so happens, also, that last night I was having some discussion with another PTO member whose husband is incarcerated in that very prison - so I had to laugh at the irony of that!! (Of course I had the pleasure of relating the story to this member, and of course due to HIPPA regulations I couldn't tell her who it was, but still, the irony...) :D

But that's not even the best part. I have to arrange some further tests and he gave me his phone number at work to contact him later, and someone who was with him said this to me, all solemn and concerned:

"Now, don't get upset or freak out when you call that number , 'cos it's a PENITENTIARY...."

LOLOLOLOLOL! :D

I wanted to fall over in the floor laughing but of course I just smiled and said no problem.... if only he knew!!! :D

Like that long-running sticky thread on PTO reads... we (families and loved ones of the incarcerated) are everywhere, in every place and in every walk of life... we might be your neighbors, your waiter, your dentist, etc.... or the little lady who schedules your tests at the doctor's office!! :)

So true Lynn!
"Now, don't get upset or freak out when you call that number , 'cos it's a PENITENTIARY...." OMG!!! That cracks me up!!! LOL
We are definitely everywhere aren't we?
I love hearing people talk about "shhh........prison" when Robert is standing right there. The look on his face is priceless cuz I KNOW he wants to say something, but he doesn't. If they only knew that the person they are talking TO about "convicts and etc" is actually one. If they only knew.... LOL
Thanks for the laugh!

lol.. cute story! When people who don't really need to know where my husband is at ask me "where does he work?" I always tell them , "for the State." Most of the time their return comment will be "boy he makes good money then." I just secretly laugh to myself while thinking about that whopping $11 a month he makes :)

That is funny.

At my work a few folks know.
It is funny when people talk about prisons and prisoners.
I just listen may even contribute to the conversation.
The people who know slyly watch my reaction.

I, too, am a nurse and I work at a county hospital next door to the county jail. Whenever guys are brought in from the jail for gruesome fights or just for health reasons, other nurses (who aren't as close to me) stand outside the door of this poor, cuffed to the bed, inmate and talk about how they wonder what happened and for me to "be careful" when I assess them because the individual's an inmate. I just laugh inside! I, in fact, provide that man with BETTER care because I know, through my husband, that CDC's healthcare is CRAP!

You're right...we are everywhere and we are good people who happen to love individuals who have done wrong!
