Hi Waynette good to see you found this new forum :) I know that you can fly up to the Bay but it is very high. I think you can land in a little town south of there called Arcata I think that is the name LOL. It is less to fly into there then rent a car and drive the rest of the way I think it's about 60 miles but I am not sure. Love Barb

Hi Ken's Mom. I am so sorry that you have to go through all of this. Check with your son's attorney or the CDC. There is something in the Calif. Penal Code about applying for "Hardship Case", which means you may be able to get your son moved closer to you. I'm not sure how it works. or if it fits your case, but considering the fact that you have his kids, it might be worth looking into. Good Luck!

Hi and Welcome -

I am happy that you found this site - I've only been here for a few days, but it really seems to help to know there are others out there like us. I live very near you, in Orange, and I doubt that my husband is going to end up at Pelican Bay - but if he does, I'll let you know. The hardship thing mentioned above seems like a good idea - I do know that there are some provisions for long distance travel.

Keep your head high -

Howdy to all. I'm up here in the San Jose area. Really missing Santa Barbara area:) . From what I have learned the "Hardship" cases are for parents who have major medical problems and you need a letter from a Doctor to verify this. I qualify but, as of March of last year, Corcoran State stopped honoring them. I wrote letters to the Warden, attaching letters from my Doctor, pleadng with him to please reconsider, since my son was being transferred anyway and I am in the last stages of a lung disease. I don't know if it was coincidence or pity, but he was transferred just a couple of hours from me.:)

I doubt that my husband is going to end up at Pelican Bay -

Hello!

MrsMalcom, Everyone with a loved one in Pelican Bay doubted that someone they cared for could end up in a hell hole like PBSP, I never thought my brother would be sitting in the SHU for 6 years, and being about a ?3-4? day drive away, Not being able to see him for 9 years... nothing in my life has been so hard. You just have to find a way to deal with something like this I guess.

anyways... Welcome to PTO!

Hi Waynette,

I am new to PTO, and have yet to introduce myself. My name is Tam. I live around 80 miles from Pelican Bay ( in Humboldt County, where the Arcata/Eureka airport is located). The airport here is very expensive to fly into from So. Cali., and having traveled as far south as you live, it has been my experience that renting a car and driving is cheaper. The drive can be done in one day, even if it is a killer. Between the cost of a car rental and a motel room, you will still find it cheaper than flying. Try and see if there is a "Friends Outside" chapter in Cresent City that might offer free housing. My heart goes out to you. Tam
