As I am sure most of you have noticed, I have implemented a "Banner Rotation" at the top of the main page. Later today this will extend out to most all areas of the site. All banners will be NON-POPUP style banners, as I HATE these, like the majority of people on the internet.. I don't call that advertising, I call that intrusion!
The main reason I have decided to move towards targeted banner advertising slots here at PTO is because the cost of running our community is going up steadily with the growth of our site. Just this month we went over our allotted bandwidth allowance by 5 GIGABYTES!! That is a lot of traffic.. Especially for a one month gain of over 5 gig's! I have to pay about $25 extra this month because of this, which really isn't going to break the bank, but it's indicative of an upward trend that isn't going to change. (I hope)
One of the reasons (a big one I think) is the photo gallery, and all the pictures/graphics we have been uploading.. They eat up a lot more "bandwidth" than text threads. Now don't for a second think I want to change this! I love pictures, as I am sure most of you do.. :) It brings spice and vision (literally) to our community.. I'm just analyzing what's happening..
Moving back to the banners... It is my hope that we can start bringing in a little money with them to support our hosting needs, and expand our community's features, etc. I am still working out the pricing guidelines for advertising slots, but they will be very affordable.
All advertisements at PTO will be services or products that directly benefit prisoners, their families and friends.. No junk or unrelated advertising..
