RobinP4 03-04-2004, 01:13 AM Hi;
My roomate's husband is at Red Granite. She's sleeping now but if you have certain questions I can ask her. Red Granite is about an hour drive south west of Appleton if that helps.
Take Care
Robin
missinMyC 03-04-2004, 01:18 AM Could you ask her how long the visits are? And if i was on his visiting list at dodge, will i need to re-submit another form for there? I live in appleton too. So any specifics would be good for driving. I really have no clue where these highways are, all i know is 41 south. lol. If she could answer a few questions, that would be really great! Thanks so much!

RobinP4 03-04-2004, 01:47 AM Hi Ashley;
I know a couple of the answers. If you are on his visiting list from Dodge you should be good to go at Red Granite.
As for directions, it's 41 south and then by Oshkosh take the 21/Omro exit, that is all I know but will get further directions for you.
And you get 3 visits a week for 2 hrs, I think. Talk to you tomorrow!
Robin
missinMyC 03-04-2004, 02:20 PM you are so sweet, thanks for taking the time to get me this info! I really appreciate it. Do you have someone in the prison system that you go see? I really hate this stuff, i cant wait until its over! Hope to hear from you soon!
Ashley
ToughTimes 03-05-2004, 01:09 AM Yep, Red Granite is right on Hwy 21 (off the Hwy 41 exit in Oshkosh). Just follow that all the way to the city, and once you get into town, there is a sign that says the correctional instituion is to the right. It's pretty easy. I used to live in Oshkosh, and drove past there all the time to get to where Trey used to be. I know nothing about the visits though. His visiting list should just transfer over, no need to resubmit your info! :)
RobinP4 03-05-2004, 02:12 AM Hi Ashley;
My husband is in prison, he's been there since 1990. He is in Waupun now, but he has been in Green Bay, Portage, Supermax and 2 federal prisons, Greenville Illinois and Terre Haute, Indiana, though he has always been a state of Wisconsin prisoner.
I got the information about Red Granite from my roomate, in fact she wrote it up for you. Her name is Sandy. Hope this helps!
Hugs
Robin
You're allowed 3 visits a week, either 2 - 3 hour visits during the
week, and non on the week-ends, or 2 - 3 hour visit Monday through
Friday,
and one 2 hour on the week-end. The hours, are Monday through Friday,
1:00
- 8:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday's 8:00 am to 3:30pm. There is no
admittance into the prison 1 hour before the end of visiting hours.
The
directions are--take 41 south, after you go over the bridge in Oshkosh,
you
will take the first exit which will be Exit 119(Which turns into 21), at the end of the off ramp
take a
right, you'll go through the town of Omro, and then the City of Omro,
after
you go through the down town you'll come to like a 4 way stop but you
will
be taking a right and will not have to stop, you'll go over a bridge,
and at
the end of the bridge there is be a set of lights, take a left there,
that
will still be 21, take that all the way into Redgranite ( about another
26
miles), once you hit Redgranite and go throught the little bit of a
town
they have you will see an ugly blue building on the right of the road,
there
will also be a set of lights there, that will be E, take a right there
and
about 1/2 - 1 mile down the road will be EE take a left there and as
soon as
you turn you will see the prison. They have signs at the set of lights,
and
then again by EE, so you will not miss it. The people have always been
very
nice, and they make things as easy for you as possible. Any other
questions, left me know, and I'll answer them if possible.
missinMyC 03-06-2004, 02:37 AM Thanks so much, i printed out the directions and i am planning on going sometime next week. I have a few more questions, how much are the phone calls? I have accepted 3 of them and we have talked for like 45mins each time. I know they arent cheap, the dodge calls werent bad though, 5 dollars for 15 minutes. i hope its the same at red granite, because i sure as hell dont have a lot of loot left for phone bills every month. One other thing, when sending a money order can i just include it in my letters to him? I wish these prison would send you out an informational packet, haha. I swear i have to do research every time they move him. Does your husband come home anytime soon? I hope all is well with you and yours! Thanks for taking the time to inform me, you dont know how greatly i appreciate it.

RobinP4 03-16-2004, 12:37 AM Hello;
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I have some answers for you from Sandy!
The calls for Redgranite are cheaper than Dodge. They are not given
a
time frame like Dodge which I think was 15 minutes, (it's been a while
since
he was there), Waupun was 9.97 for 30 minutes, and then you were cut
off.
Redgranite doesn't have that cut off time. You can talk for as long as
you
want. For a 1/2 hour it is roughly $7.95. But just like you said they
add
up fast. Money orders have to mailed in they won't take them at the
front
dest like some do. I just always send mine in a letter and he has
always
gotten them. As for the amount of time he has left... we are in the
middle
of appeals at this time, just heading into the Federal system. We have
turned it all over to Our Precious Lord, and if it is in His plans it
won't
be another 17 years, other wise that is what we are looking at as of
now. I
hope you have good visits, and who knows we might be in the same room
at the
same time, loving the men that we will continue to stand behind.
Sandy
missinMyC 03-16-2004, 12:51 AM I know my phone bill is going to be a little out of hand this month, he calls a lot now. I am going to talk to him about cutting the calls down. I am a fulltime college student, and its been hard enough taking on all the bills in which i am used to Chris paying at least half. I like it that the calls dont cut off at a certain time limit, however, my phone bill doesnt like that at all! I need another job, even though there is not enough hours left in the day for me to work one! My man is supposed to get out July of this year (hes there on parole revocation). However, the reason he got revoked in the first place is because he got into trouble and caught another case. I continue to send him paperwork showing that he has a court date this week, and he said no one there cares when he trys to tell them. Outagamie county has now filed a warrant for his arrest because he missed his first court date (how stupid, they are the ones who transported him to prison). It isnt his fault no one transports him to court. they even showed up at my house asking for him, i told the officer to get out his pen and write this down, i listed off the prison address and he looked at me really confused. I said, yeah, you heard me right, hes already in custody. It was funny.
We probably are in the same room at the same time, who knows. I'm 20 years old. Tall, Blond short hair. have you seen me? just kidding, haha.
Thanks for the info, and i wish the best for you...
Ashley
browneyegirl 03-18-2004, 07:59 AM My fiance' was in Redgranite for over a year, and was moved to Racine about 8 months ago or so......the phone bills are more expensive because they call time is about 80 some minutes long. Each call for us was like $25.00!!
When he was there I was able to send checks instead of money orders, but you might want to call on that and make sure.
We both really liked Redgranite...the staff is very nice and friendly there... he didn't like it when he was there...but now being at Racine, he wishes he was back there.! Visits are 3 hours during the week, and 2 on the weekends....and holidays are also 2 hours.
If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or e-mail me...!! Hope some of the info helped!!

rockchic 01-21-2008, 02:33 AM wow, so your saying that you can send money orders directly to them with their mail? what about stamps? my sweetheart is there and i got a letter from him the other day, he is so bummbed he has no money and no stamps, he had to borrow from other inmates to be able to send me a letter telling me he probably wouldnt be writing for awhile because he has no money! I want to help him NOW!! What about sending pictures, is there a limit as to how many at a time, or how many they can have in possesion? thanks!
pandorantrix 01-21-2008, 01:06 PM I don't think that you can send money directly to any inmate in Wisconsin. The money orders (you can't send checks) is sent to the institution in the inmates name but usually there is a different address to send money for the inmate's account - it doesn't go to the same address as mail would go to. I would call red granite and ask someone before you just send off money to him. While you are asking about that, you can check on picture restrictions - most institutions have those also. Good luck.
SummerRae 01-21-2008, 01:55 PM My sweetheart is in redgranite too! so you are saying you can send them money orders directly to them? what about stamps, he is pretty bummed, he wrote me the other day to tell me he wouldnt be writing for awhile because he has no money for stamps, i want to help him now!!
Call them first. Here's the contact info for the facility
Inmate Mail: P.O. Box 925
1006 County Road EE
PO Box 900 - staff po box
Redgranite, WI 54970 Phone: 920-566-2600 Fax: 920-566-2610
They don't have a designated Po Box for money orders so call and verify that. If there is one and you didn't send it correctly, they will mail it back to you.
Once you have the write PO Box, make the money order out to your boyfriend, they will then apply it to his account. They don't get 100% of it though, they generally take out 20-25% for his release account or other stuff... so if you want him to have $30 on his books, send a little extra.
Good luck, welcome to PTO

Some facilities do have you send any Money orders to a different address... it just so happens Red Granite still has the Money orders going directly to the inmate mail address still. Just want to point this out for anyone else's reference (always check with your particular facility).
Most facilities only allow the 25 picture limit. Another FYI: You can send him more pictures later.. but he'll have to send out pictures (like send them back to you in the mail) to receive more pics. So if you send him 25 now.. and decide to send him 10 more in a month.. he'll have to send back 10 of the 'old' ones to get the 10 'new' ones.
