Hi,
Good to be back. I haven't been able to get t a computer in weeks. My husband Ralf is putting in for a transfer back closer to the Tampa area. He's thinking about Sumter or Polk. Can anyone give me any feedback about these 2 places. I'll be moving back to the Tampa area in august to go back to school. Ralf can put in for a transfer in April and they told him that it would take 3 to 5 months. He has to give them 3 choices of where he wants to go. So if anyone can also recommend a third one that would be good I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

You could maybe PM Bella. Her honey was in Sumter a few months ago. She's busy with mid term exams and stuff like that by now, but I'm sure she will answer you asap. :)

My boyfriend was just transferred to Sumter CI last then a month ago. He lieks it over there. He says everyone stays to themselves. The CO's are laidback. Theres not too many problems there. I dont know about Polk. Hope this helps! Let me know if you visit and how it is there. I havent gotten the chance to visit sicne hes 4 hours from me and i dont have a car. But, i'll find a wya, so let me know any particular crazy rules they have

I could tell you from experience that Polk is one of THE most lax camps in the state. The cops dont bother the guys too bad (well, compared to some other places), there are a variety of programs for your man to choose from if he wishes to do so, and the VP is not too up-tight and is very large (both inside and outside are big). I know that almost everyone tries to get to this camp, so if he has a chance to then I'd definitely take advantage of it. I also have a very dear friend who's husband is at Sumter and she said that he really likes it there. Now, there are no "real programs" there like there are at Polk, but there are a gazillion activities for our guys to do (just think of any sport and they probably have a team there!) and the VP is smaller than Polk but the cops aren't jerks to the visitors like some places. I am not sure what other facilities to suggest, but I'm sure someone will come along that can give you more ideas. Good Luck on the move! :)

Zephyrhills C.I. is the closest camp to Tampa. About 20 mins. north on Highway 301. I don't know a thing about Sumter or Polk.

I haven't been on here for a while, so this reply may be too late to help, but my guy has been in Polk for a few months and he says it's very laid back. He says that when they open the dorms in the morning you are free to go anywhere you want, short of over the fence. Also it s one of the few facilities that do not have controlled movement. Also the food is decent. He was recently moved to the work camp there and it is pretty much the same. Hope this helps.

I have a penpal who is now at Hardee and who was at Polk, and he said Polk was much better, though I tried to get him to tell me specifically, he hasn't. (I suspect he's afraid he'll piss off his present inn-keepers at Hardee.)
Don't know anything about Sumter.
I've heard good about both Sumter and Polk. I've heard there's a waiting list to get into Polk. I've heard bad things about Hardee "..they kill you there..." :(
From the USF area of Tampa, here are the closest camps: Zephryhills, about 15-20 minute drive; Polk, about 50 minutes to the east; Sumter, about an hour to the north; Avon Park, about an hour and 40 minutes to the south. I've heard from several different guys that Avon Park is "a sweet place to do time". I'm hoping my friend at Jackson CI gets to transfer to one of these camps so I can visit him. :)
