View Full Version : I have a Question...
JimsBabyGirl 04-03-2002, 08:40 PM Ok Ladies.. I have a question if anyone knows. My Fiance' is incarcerated in a California State Prison. He's been Ok'd for Work Furlough/Half-Way House.. Does anyone know how long it "normally" takes. I know it all depends on the availibility of beds and stuff. And that's exactly what we're waiting for a bed for him. Would he still be released on his release date of June 14th?? Or? How does this work?
Thanks,
Kelly
Shortie 04-03-2002, 09:05 PM He can get release prior to his date if the program is open.. other wise he has to wait until his date.. Most of the time it is earlier and then they go to the half way house. It can work either way.. Just make some calls and try to stay on top of what is going on...
soraya 05-31-2002, 06:46 AM only 14 days and he'll be coming home, right? you must be so exited!
CARLAxoxoxTODD 05-31-2002, 09:19 AM Shortie's right...they will hold him until there is an available bed. Thank goodness Todd's already got the paperwork in and approved for his 1/2 way house.
Kelly...you must be ecstatic that your fiance is a short-timer now! Are you picking him up or is the DOC transporting him?
Shortie 05-31-2002, 08:23 PM i am so glad that he is on the way home..
CREAMYALMONDZ 06-04-2002, 06:50 AM As far as I know, he'll have to stay in the prison until a bed is ready for him at the halfway house. That's how it is here in Virginia you can give the prison or the halfway house a call to find out. Hope this helps.
Veronica 06-04-2002, 06:40 PM My husband is in San Quentin. He got a job and they cut his time in half. He's coming home on July 1, 16 days ealier than we thought. If he had started his job sooner, he would have been home sooner. The more people there is to process, the longer the wait. You can try to call his councelor at the prison he's in and they can give you more info! You must be so excited he's coming home! I know I am!!!
Shortie 06-04-2002, 08:30 PM he will be home in time for 4th of july that will be nice.. you go girl
KConnor56 06-06-2002, 04:52 PM Just a thought from a former convict, but watch out for halfway houses, they can be a trap. I have heard too many bad stories. This is from mostly So. Calif people, maybe No. Calif is different.
soraya 06-07-2002, 02:25 AM Can you explain a little more what you mean by 'a trap'?
KConnor56 06-07-2002, 03:35 AM Sure no problem,
although you can tell by my other post I can get a little long winded LOL. Most inmates are offered work furrlough/halfway house, 90 days to the house, it takes awhile to process the paper work, & for a bed to open up. By the time most get it it's ussually less tan 30 days to the house. EVERY halfway house I've heard of has drug problems so these guys are going into a bad situation. They are also still considered prisoners/in custody. I've heard stories of guys going to halfway houses & getting write ups for comming back late, not checking in, giving dirty test, getting caught in a room with contraband, testing posative for alcohol. EVERY guy I know that got to a halfway house has regretted it. When you get a write up you get sent back to prison with more time to do. You can also pick up a parole violation at a halfway house, which will get you more time. They make it very hard for you to travel, have transportation, etc.. Many believe as do I that they have no interest in helping you out. Your returning to prison is their job security, plus some get a perverse pleasure in seeing prisoners fail. It's better to just do your time & get out & go home. They prey on your desire to get out hoping you'll jump at the chance. They put you in a bad situation & when you screw up your back inside with more time. It's a trap.
dagrrrl 07-03-2002, 02:51 AM I have a close friend who is being released from a federal institution in 3 months. He is 3 years sober, inside, and would like to be paroled right to a residential recovery program. I am searching for programs for him in Northern California, as opposed to Los Angeles where he will be released if he does not find a more suitable place for him. How would I go about applying to admit him/is he eligible? Please get back to me. Any information abou the whole parole, high-risk parolee deal would be greatly appreciated. We are running out of time. A little under 3 months.
Thanks so much!!
Erin
My brother-in-law was murdered at a halfway house during a drug deal. The last time my husband was in, he was offered to go to a halfway house for his last 6 months and he flat out refused, said he will do his last 6 months inside. I have heard NOTHING but bad things about these places.
shalove 09-27-2002, 08:35 PM I am assuming that this half way house you are talking about is like work release. iknow that in work release it is up to 6 months of your release date. but it all depends on the beds available... see if his counselor has a target date????
MichaelsGrl 09-30-2002, 02:46 PM Check and make sure he doesn't need to be reclassified. A friend of mine was waiting on reclassification so he could get moved to a work center. Sometimes all it takes is a call to the DOC and check into it.
