I'm a little confused and I hope someone here can help me out. My friend is planning on marrying a man who is doing 25 to life in NY. He has no CR date and is going to his first parole hearing in 2006. I read somewhere that someone that has life on the end of their sentence cannot have conjucal visits even if the visits are allowed in that prison. Does anyone know if this is true? My friend seems to think it will be part of their life to go on trailer visits.

That's true in California -- anything to lilfe can't get family visits until they have an out date. But I don't knnow about NY.

This sorta thing always confuses me a bit... Your friend asks you to ask us if her inmate has one privilege or another...

Quick answer comes from asking the inmate. He'd know if anyone would..The institution he's in could also answer the question for her if she's got to call because he doesn't actually know the answer to that question.

I'd be a little curious if their plans to marry hinge on this promise of trailor visits.

No, my friend did not ask me to ask you. I saw something posted about it and it didn't make sense to me. I decided to find out if it was true or not without upsetting my friend. I don't think their marriage "hinges" on trailor visits, I think knowing all the facts is a good way to start a marriage. I don't know where you are from but everytime I call a correctional facility in NY I have always been lied to. I can't trust a word these people tell me that's why I came here hoping for an answer. So I really just need an anwer to a question, not to be judged or insulted.

Yankee the state has policies that are written down somewhere. Copies of them are in those institutions and not everyone in a uniform is out to lie and I didn't insult or judge you. I suggested that you and or your friend go to the inmate or the institition for the answer. That's just direct.

Direct would also be talking to your friend about it. See what she knows or doesn't.

I have been lied to by these people and it cost me and my family money, time and hurt feelings. Why would I go back for some more of that? I thought that I could get an answer here, I couldn't decide whether to ask in the NY forum or here. I will just search it out myself. Thank you for your suggestions.

Yeah check out the DOC and find out what you can there, if not you can always talk with her and see if he knows anything about it. I wish things were easier but sometimes they are hard before they get easier. Take care

I hear you Madcowgurl! I just don't want to say anything until I know what I'm talking about. I realize that I am not minding my own business:) Maybe it's just a California thing like Qwerty says. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks

This may be a dumb ???, but have you asked your ??? on the NY Forum? Maybe there's someone there that could tell you from first hand experience. My man is in CA too, so I'm sorry I can't be of much help.

Most of my searches brough me back to the PTO archives! The DOC had nothing. Thanks LADYCEE, it must be a rule that is different from state to state and I read something about CA. Just my ususal flying off the handle and freaking out, even when it isn't my own business. I do care a great deal about these two people and I just didn't want them to get hit with a bomb!
To all of you CA people, remain in adamantine fortitude!
Thanks,
NY

In NY it's called the Family Reunion Program (FRP) - there have been many posts on it here on PTO ... try doing a search on family reunion program and see what comes up ...

Lifers in NY can have trailers as long as they aren't sex offenders, take the required programs and stays out of trouble.
