Now Billy and I are up against more obstacles. He has to complete an anger management class. He just got out of prison for a parole violation of not completing the class. It is $20.00 a week and you have to pay up front. He has been trying to find a job, but there aren't a lot here in Redding. Does anyone know how he can get some assistance to help pay for the classes or free ones, or discounted classes? It seems ridiculous that the system puts a conditions like this on parolees. They don't have jobs when they get out and most certainly don't have money. Sometimes I think they try to send parolees back. Here in California they love to fill the prisons. Please let me know if any of you have any info for me. Thanks!

I know that when my cousin went into rehab, he was on medicaid or medicare and they paid for his rehab, im not sure about anger management classes though.

You might approach local churches for something like this. Also, what about your local United Way? They might know of agencies that could provide emergency financial assistance. Best of luck. It really does seem like the system purposely stacks the deck against these guys.

Maybe Billy can ask his agent what "rehab" places the Dept. of Corrections in your state works with?
My boyfriend is required by his parole officer to take drug classes. His PO gave him a list of places that the MDOC directly works with and many times the places have sliding pay scales. I would imagine that would also be the case with anger management classes too.
I know that here in Michigan we have what is called P.A.C.E. I am not sure what it stands for, but I know that when my boyfriend went to an inpatient drug rehab before he went back to prison this last time, PACE paid the expences. It is a government funded agency of some sort.
Keep us posted!

In Michigan each county (or group of counties) has a coordinating agency that assists in paying for substance abuse treatment for uninsured, underinsured and Medicaid people. You have to meet certain eligibility requirements but you can get assistance for all or some of the financial costs for treatment. For those on parole, MDOC has a separate pot of money to pay for treatment and MDOC contracts with certain programs to provide those services. If MDOC runs out of money then the coordinating agency kicks in. You have to contact the coordinating agency in the county in which you live. All of this information applies to Michigan. I'm not sure if how other states operate. If people have specific questions regarding treatment in Michigan please pm me, I work for one of the coordinating agencies in a county in Michigan so I know all about the process.

Christen, it would be worth it to post in the California forum also since there may be people there that have some ideas or experience with this.
