Work Detail
Unicor-make things sold to other parts of the Government.
Facilities- Plumbing-fix broken plumbing within institution
HVAC-fix air conditioning, heating and venting
Electric Shop-fix broken electric within the institution
Painting-paint within the institution
Maintenance-fix anything broken
Kitchen-Cook for the institution or officers
Yard-pick up trash left on yard, take out trash
Recreation orderlies-clean up rec yard, equipment check out etc.
Laundry-wash institutional laundry
Commissary-fill store orders
Barber Shop-cut hair (anyone within institution)
Chapel orderlies- wax/buff floors, clean up
Education-clerks, tutors, etc.
Unit-Orderly-clean common area of units, wax/buff floors
Recreational Activities
Hobby craft-leather and painting
Activities-flag football, volleyball, hardball, soccer, softball, basketball, treadmills,
Stair-climbers, etc.
Medical
My dealings with medical is limited to a physical every 2 years.
Visitation
Visits daily Thursday thru Monday (no visits on Tuesday or Wednesday)
8am to 3pm
NOTE on weekends and holidays they have official count time. Institution is locked
Down from 9:30 until 11:00 so get there before or after this time!
There is a children’s room with a TV that shows children’s movies and some games.
They have the points system at this location-8 points allowed per month.
Weekday is 1 point weekend is 2 points
SHU Visits is Monday and Friday ONLY. In a cubical glass partition over a telephone.
Food Services
This food is the lowest quality available! Poorly prepared food in the SHU is worse, frequently cold and thrown together.
Commissary
For SHU prisoners-allowed items
1 soap, 1 shampoo, 1 deodorant, 1 vitamin, 2 books of stamps, 1 small package of Kool-Aid, 1 bag of cookies, 1 shower shoes, 4 batteries.
Library
Leisure library is actually pretty good
Legal is very poor
SHU-leisure library is very poor

Program is not offered at this location
Living conditions
Pretty good conditions in general population. 128 per unit
SHU-3 men per cell, sometimes 4 or 5 with 2 living on the floor. Very cramped living in a cell designed 15 years ago for 1-now houses 2 or 3 people.

Been in the hole for a year…not sure now.

One typewriter for all of SHU people, 224 prisoners
