I can't even believe this, and whoever invented this should be strung up and flogged I think, well better still how about prison time. The Guardian is a reliable newspaper in England and I did check other sources in case you were wondering, because to be honest I didnt believe it when I first read it.

New Device Lets People Inhale Alcoholic Drinks
2/23/2004

The new AWOL (alcohol without liquid) device (http://www.awolmachine.com/), introduced recently in some bars in Britain, allows patrons to vaporize and inhale their favorite alcoholic drink to achieve a more intense feeling of intoxication, the Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/life/thisweek/story/0,12977,1150828,00.html) reported Feb. 19.

Awol works by passing oxygen bubbles from a modified aromatherapy machine over a drink to absorb the alcohol. The alcohol then flows through the tube into a person's nasal passages. Because the alcohol is inhaled through the nasal membrane, it is absorbed into the blood much faster than if it was consumed through the mouth. The delivery provides a more rapid and intense feeling of intoxication because it bypasses the stomach and liver.

The new device has raised concern among health experts. Heavy users, said Alastair Hay, a toxicologist at Britain's LeedsUniversity, "would be likely to do some damage to the nasal passages eventually."

He added, "There would be some irritant effect because alcohol is a defatting agent and if it overloaded cells and damaged them there could be some pathology."
