My husband and first last and only love has been thru cherokee county jail then Floyd county jail then Jackson classification and then Baldwin and NOW ..Floyd Correctional institution..They have kept him put for a year 10 months now..THANK GOD. Much love to anyone whos man is in classification cuz they wont let you visit for about 6 weeks. I am only about an hour away if anyones elses man gets there (which they probably will ) because they just built on a new addition please PM me I will tell you all the details and even carpool with ya if you need help. My fiance is in Jackson. It sucks. I can't see him and he can't call. will be glad when he gets somewhere. We have a review coming up. Can someone tell me what all they do there? Do they take off the county jail time? He sent me a form called "GA DOC sentence computation form" It has his max release date as 8/20/08 which is a year earlier than the 6 year sentence. I just want to know what all they do there. People keep telling me stuff and I want to hear from someone who knows. Thanks!

Sounds like your new at this! So am I! My husband has been at Jackson for going on 12 weeks now and I pray everyday that they move him soon. But I know God has a plan and a time for everything so I know I must be patient and I will be rewarded.

Don't let the max. release date letter scare you. Yes, they get credit for time served in the jail and depending on the charges and his behavior in prison he will probably only serve about half of the 6 year sentence.

I have networked and befriended several other ladies with loved ones in Georgias prison system. We have regular get togethers and share information on the different prisons and their experiences. It has helped me alot not only with the information but spiritually as well. You see we all believe in God and he gives us the strength to get through all the pain and loneliness.

If you don't already know, your loved one will not be able to have any visitors until he has been in Jackson 6 weeks. You can call the prison and get the exact date he will be allowed visitors.

They only allow family to visit, so you need to ask them about fiance' visits.

Visitation is Mon.-Fri. (once a week) and you can choose the time of 9-11 or 2-4. Mondays and Fridays are very crowded and afternoons can be also. I usually go 9-11 on Tues. or Wed. and it's not to bad.

You are not allowed to wear shorts, halters or be braless. No flip flop shoes or sandles, but I've seen several people get in with them.

He will not be allowed to make any phone calls to you until he has been in Jackson for 5 months and most are shipped out shortly after their 6 weeks diagnostic/ classificatiion.

Don't expect much when you do have your visit. You can not touch them and you talk to them through a heavy screen in a room full of other people yelling over each other.

If you have any more questions or would like to get together with other women in your situation for support let me know. It really helps me in knowing we have each other. My husband got 25 years but we are waiting on his appeal and praying for Gods deliverance.

What happens at Jackson, GA diagnostic and classification prison? My brother has been waiting for the past two weeks in a detention center and has been told that he will be going to Jackson for assessment and then will be assigned to a prison to serve his 3 year sentence.

Everyone going to prison in Georgia goes to Jackson first. In Jackson they do a complete medical evaluation on you, physically and mentally. Then they decide what type of prison you will be going to. If you are handicap or have a medical condition they have prisons that cater to those needs. The classify you to either Low, Medium or High security prisons according to the crime and you mental evaluation. For 6 weeks your only outside contact is by mail. After 6 weeks you are allowed family only to visit. Usually shortly after your 6 weeks is over they move you to another prison for the remainder of your sentence.

I noticed you are in Indiana. I am originally from Michigan and moved to the Atlanta area about 7 years ago. My husband is in Jackson but they should be moving him soon. They said that he's just there for diagnostics, but theres a chance that he may be moved again or he could be put in the permanent population. Hopefully he stays there. My husband Ron just got transferred to Telfair State Prison today! Can anyone give me some info on what the visitations are like there? I called the prison and they said he won't be able to have visitors until next weekend and that they have no contact visits. Is that true? Will I not be able to at least kiss him when I arrive or leave?

My fiance Joe is in Coastal State Prison.. I am from Augusta Ga.. I will be elegible for visitation in September.. Im not sure how to get there and I dont know what kind of rules they have for visitation.. If there is anyone who does please reply back

My guy is in Phillips State Prison,.. it's a good camp overall, and visitation is usually fair. The Warden is a previous Mental Health Counselor, and she's doing a good job. The counselors are available to family members, and will generally help out the best they can. The chaplains are INCREDIBLE, and camp is fairly secure.

Joesbaby20,You can take $10 in ones and $10 in quarters in a zip lock bag.(for food) Which you will have to go get,he is only allowed to get up to go to the restroom when he can get a guards attention.No shorts,no halter tops ect.They say no sandles but i saw people wearing them.you will sit at a little round table and his back has to be to the wall.you can hug and kiss coming and going. I hope you have sent in your paper work and have been cleared for a visit and dont for get a pic ID.hope this helps good luck

Not everyone goes to Jackson. My son was sent to Augusta State Medical Prison for diagnostics. It all depends. Several of the prisons do diagnostics and each prison is different with their visitation rules. My son was move to there on a Thursday and I was allowed to visit that weekend. My brother was there at Garden State Prison for about 3 months and now has been sent to Augusta State Medical. I believe he was hit in the back of the head by someone. We just got this information this past Friday night. Anyways he thinks he is going to be in Augusta indefinetly. I don't know very much about Gardencity, we never visited there. My family had just recieved papers stating that we were allowed to visit him a couple days before his incident. Good Luck to you and yours.

His attorney says he may very well go to a BC since he has a non-violent, non-drug related charge but he has pretty much been left in the dark since his sentencing in August. he booked into Cherokee Co. on June 13.

My husband has served 13 years of a life sentence. First Buford, then Pelham, then Calhoun, Hays and then Valdosta and finally at Wheeler COrrectional Facility. Wheeler is a private prison but they have offered him more there than in the past 11 years at state camps.

Thank you so much for you thought and kind wishes, touches my heart to meet kind and sweet people around here. I did came to see him last October (3 visitations) and last December (had 6 visitations) so that was heavenly :) but 20 hours flight sucks.. :(

Leaving was tougher though and I can't be there for a while coz work got busy :( If only I cant find a way to get a job and stay there so I can visit him weekly.. That'd be "HEAVEN"..

My guy is in Bostic State Prison in Millegeville. I live in Columbia, SC so I spend a lot of time on the road. I guess the saying is very true about us...Women are like tea bags, you never know how strong they are untill they get into hot water...only this time it seams it's our guys that got into the "hot water" ;)

How are the hotels in Milledgeville? My friend is in Hancock SP located in Sparta, Ga and I live in NY. When I visit I stay in The Atlanta Metro area with friends, but I wouldn't want to commute back and forth in the winter I'd rather stay the night nearby. When I asked the CO's of neraby hotels they suggested Milledgeville and/or Sandersville. Just wondering if you tried any, and what did you think of the place? Thanks.

I used to live there when I was in college and their are some fine hotles. there is a Jameson Inn and a couple others that are nice.

When I looked it up at hotels.com they list them, but you never know how they are until you get there. Thanks.

My husband was taken yesterday from the Dekalb Co. jail. I want to find out if he was taken to Jackson or not. Can you help?:ha:

I have been through this before. Be patient and he will contact you as soon as he can. My guy was in Dekalb until the day before new years. I spoke with his lawyer and he helped track him down. Then a few days later I got a letter from him. Remember...he wants you to know where he is so he'll contact you ASAP. He could be transfered to any number of places. There is no absolute rule as to where anyone goes.


Stay strong, have faith and let us know when you find him.

My friend is housed permanently (Life) as of 2-04 at Augusta State Medical in Grovetown. He has Hep C and we assume he has been assigned to Augusta because his condition has been assessed (at Baldwin) as serious and chronic.

My son was at Coastal for diagnostics and as far as prisons go it is ok. The staff was exceptionally friendly and visitation is good. you actually get to hug when you enter and when you leave. You sit at little tables facing each other and can visit all day on sat, sun and holidays. Be sure and take plenty of quarters to buy lunch and snacks for your fiance'. My son was transfered to Smith from Coastal and now we are waiting on a TPM date.

My significant other is at Baldwin State Prison. We have lived together since 2000 & have a 2 year old son. I have a 4 year old that has known him as his daddy since he was 15 months old. He asked that I be put on his visitation list, but when I tried to see him they would not allow me to. I don't really know why.

My husband has moved, he is now at Hall County C I, so very close to home, he put in a request to be closer to home, now, if they would just let him stay there for the next two years, we'll both be happy. He also said that he's supposed to get his security level dropped back down to minimum.

My son is located in Mount Vernon Georgia, Montgomery State Correctional Facility. Thank goodness he is only about 60 - 70 miles away. We have contact visits every week-end and he can hug and play with his children.

My fience went from Cherokee Co. (june 13, 03 - jan. 08, 04) to GDCP at Jackson and after 7 weeks there, he went to Rogers State Prison.

I haven't seen him since Sept. because I was at the end of my pregnancy and the travel from WI to GA was too much for me at the time. Then while I was in GA after the baby was born, they would not let me see him when he was at Jackson. :( But I am planning on heading down in about a month to see him!!! I can hardly wait!!!!

My man is in Walton County. He is due to be sent to Jackson soon, then who knows where.

How are the hotels in Milledgeville? My friend is in Hancock SP located in Sparta, Ga and I live in NY. When I visit I stay in The Atlanta Metro area with friends, but I wouldn't want to commute back and forth in the winter I'd rather stay the night nearby. When I asked the CO's of neraby hotels they suggested Milledgeville and/or Sandersville. Just wondering if you tried any, and what did you think of the place? Thanks.

Hey, I was reading your message and wanted to let you know that the hotels are nice, some nicer than others but a friend of mine and I stay every other weekend down there. We stay at the Best Western Inn & Suites...about $60 a night or so. They also have the Friendship Inn that is cheaper..maybe $37 or so. We might stay there this weekend if they have any vacantsys. I'll let you know!

I hope I helped you out...I actually live in the Metro area but hate driving back and forth every weekend.

I actually stayed at the Best Western for 5 days ((two weekends) when I went to visit. It was close to Walmart, Applebee's, Sonics, Kroeger's and a shopping mall. I even got to see a movie, the theatre was at the mall and they stayed open late on Sunday night. I would stay there again. Thanks again.

The comment made about Jackson Diagnostic/Classification Prison is not always true...their is another prison in Hardwick, GA by the name of Baldwin S.P. that is also a classification prison. The majority of people go to Jackson but mine was luck and by-passed it. He is is Bostick S.P. in Hardwick, GA...it is a very small and laid back prison.

You are correct jackson is NOT the only classification prison. There is also Coastal State Prison.

My son is at Jackson Diag. where he is a perm. He could get trans. if he wants but he said it wasn't too bad of course he wants out as others do. He's in the main. dept.and has a cell of his own and we get to see him sat. and sun. every week. He talk to him once a week also. The get to see movies on week-ends if one a of the guards I guess bring some in. He plays ball and exercises pretty regular most of the guys get along pretty good. So it's not too bad - the new warden had vending machines bought in for when the permanents and the death row inmates have visitors they can get more then chips, candy, and other junk. You can carry $20.00 no big bills only 1's and change. Maybe this will help some of the people whose kin is just going to Jackson. If they cause no problems they will not have any just follow the rules. This is for the permanent inmates only! Have a good day maybe things will get better for everyone me included!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, my baby is in Jackson right now hes only been there about two weeks now and already we are going crazy! im so worried about him he sai dthey only eat twice on the weekends. its horrible. im afraid i wont get to see him cause im only a fiance' . So u sai dthey usually get transfered shortly after there 6 weeks is up. im moving to ga in july so i can be near him when he gets transfered so i can go visit him i havent seen him in almost three months since the first week in april. im so hurt . we are trying to gigure out when hes gonna get out ? he got 8 yrs but judge said serve two.. so he has to serve 90% is what im told but then the parole website said even the 90% people can go up for parole 8-10 months after they hit the prison do u know how all that works . im so confused. how do u get through? i miss him terribly .

Don't let the max. release date letter scare you. Yes, they get credit for time served in the jail and depending on the charges and his behavior in prison he will probably only serve about half of the 6 year sentence.

I have networked and befriended several other ladies with loved ones in Georgias prison system. We have regular get togethers and share information on the different prisons and their experiences. It has helped me alot not only with the information but spiritually as well. You see we all believe in God and he gives us the strength to get through all the pain and loneliness.

If you don't already know, your loved one will not be able to have any visitors until he has been in Jackson 6 weeks. You can call the prison and get the exact date he will be allowed visitors.

They only allow family to visit, so you need to ask them about fiance' visits.

Visitation is Mon.-Fri. (once a week) and you can choose the time of 9-11 or 2-4. Mondays and Fridays are very crowded and afternoons can be also. I usually go 9-11 on Tues. or Wed. and it's not to bad.

You are not allowed to wear shorts, halters or be braless. No flip flop shoes or sandles, but I've seen several people get in with them.

He will not be allowed to make any phone calls to you until he has been in Jackson for 5 months and most are shipped out shortly after their 6 weeks diagnostic/ classificatiion.

Don't expect much when you do have your visit. You can not touch them and you talk to them through a heavy screen in a room full of other people yelling over each other.

If you have any more questions or would like to get together with other women in your situation for support let me know. It really helps me in knowing we have each other. My husband got 25 years but we are waiting on his appeal and praying for Gods deliverance.

Everyone going to prison in Georgia goes to Jackson first. In Jackson they do a complete medical evaluation on you, physically and mentally. Then they decide what type of prison you will be going to. If you are handicap or have a medical condition they have prisons that cater to those needs. The classify you to either Low, Medium or High security prisons according to the crime and you mental evaluation. For 6 weeks your only outside contact is by mail. After 6 weeks you are allowed family only to visit. Usually shortly after your 6 weeks is over they move you to another prison for the remainder of your sentence.

I noticed you are in Indiana. I am originally from Michigan and moved to the Atlanta area about 7 years ago. My husband is in Jackson but they should be moving him soon. If you have any more questions or need information on coming to Georgia to visit your brother you can PM me and I would be happy to help in anyway I can.

Well I just found out this morning that Tony was moved to Phillips State Prison. If anyone has someone there or knows anything about this place PLEASE let me know. I am so confused, because the GDC website says it is for behavioral problems and mental problems and tony has neither. Iris, my fiance was at Cobb County ADC before he went to Baldwin. They give you an EF# whenever the state gets around to it. Basically, when he gets moved from there you will be able to call Cobb county and ask them where he was sent (to make sure) and they will either give you a number to call or they will give you his EF#. You can't send him a letter without it once he is in state prison!

My honey was transferred from GDCP in Jackson GA to Wheeler Correctional Institute in Alamo GA this morning. If any one can help me with any information about this prison, it would be of great help. Calls to the facility today have already shown me that I will not get much information from the staff. It was difficult to even find out the jails telephone carrier. If any one knows about the following information, please let me know:
-Visitation situation (i.e. contact; heavily supervised; length; times per week; etc.)
-Educational classes offered
-Telephone privileges
-Security level
-Does the fact that it is a private facility benefit the inmates at all?


If anyone can help me with some of this, it would do us both a great favor.

All I can say is that I'm sure you will hang in there with him because you are putting your faith in the right thing...God! The system is never going to bring us closer to our men, we just have to know that the bond we have with them, will never be separated by bars. Being in a private facility (my husband was just transferred to Wheeler also) is definitely better. It can always be worse, or course, but being here is a blessing to them. One of the big things they have to worry about at Wheeler is a bunch of snitches though. Tell your loved one to be careful. I've heard that most of the inmates are from Protective Custody. "Kites" ain't nothing but a thang to these guys. The parole investigation is so out of our hands that its not even funny...we are all at the mercy of this rotten system. But God will bring us ALL through.

My baby just got transferred from Arrendale to Macon State Prison. PRAISE GOD! Can anyone tell me anything about MSP? Any information is greatly appreciated. He is a little farther away from me right now, but just knowing he's out of Arrendale makes any distance worth the drive.

I dont know if you have already found out the answer but once room has opened up at a diagnostics & classification he then receives an ef # before he is shipped. You can also keep checking the georgia department of corrections website by clicking on inmate query. Then follow the instructions. Hope this helps

Hello! I am new to this site, well I have been looking at it since last Thursday! This is a god send site. I wish that I would of found this earlier! My boyfriend is at Hall County CI in Gainesville. He has been locked up since last August, he left Catoosa Co, went to Ga Diagnostics, then to Hall Co.! He went to his pre-parole hearing before he got sent to Hall Co., he was told that as long as he didn't get in trouble that he would be home in December. His counsler has been telling him that his PIC month is in December of this year. Well, his TPM isn't until April 2006. His counsler told him in October that he should know the exact date in Novemebr. He went to counsler call last month and was told that he hasn't got all the paper work back. He is paroling out of state (to Tennessee), so he had to turn in money for his interstate compact. But here we are 14 days into December, and he still hasn't had counsler call yet. So, I called the parole board Friday and talked to some lady, gave her his EF#, she told me that his PIC month is for DEC. 2005@!@! I was like WHAT????!!!??? I know that Robby has been told December, he should be home, and believe me he always double checks everytime that he talks to his counsler. Could she have the wrong date? Or does anyone know what I should think? Why would his counsler tell him December all this time, then the lady tell me one thing? I am so numb over what I found out, I NEED HELP, WHATEVER ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME I WILL TAKE! This site has helped me sooo much, I think it is awesome...people in my same state, who are going thru excactly what I am! I wish I would of came up on ya'll last year! Please anyone who knows anything help......or just wondering if anyone else has a loved one in Hall Co. PLEASE WRITE BACK! SORRY FOR THE "NOVEL"! keep track of everything. Every time you call, write a letter, etc....who you speak with, get a response from or whatever. Prepare a letter to send via mail and email to the Chairman of the Parole Board and do not give up! I read your intro and saw you said they told him December several times. Did the couselor specify the year? Also I would tell your boyfriend to go to his counselor and let him know what the Parole board told you and try to get some more information from him as well. It's going to seem like you are going round and round for while, but hang in there. They messed my fiance's paperwork up BIG time when he was at GDCP for diagnostics and told us his release was in 2011 at one point!!! But really his max out was 2006 and he was paroled in 2004, so it was a nightmare, they had mixed up paperwork and tagged on charges that weren't even his!!! We had to go to the courthouse to get copies of everything with our attorney and so on. Do not give up!!!!

hi Ledia, My husband is currently in Coastal State. I haven't seen him since he went in, in around June. I live about 6 or 7,000 miles away, in Alaska so that makes visiting somewhat obsolete. I am planning to go down March of 2005 for two weeks so I'll get to see him hopefully two weekends in a row. His max date is June 11, 2006. Its really hard being so far away but were always communicating by letters or phone. Is your fiance still there? I have a fiancee there who has been there for approximately 8 weeks. He is there for diagnostic screening and is expected to be moved to another location soon. I will be visiting him for the first time this coming weekend (January 2-4, 2004) and would like some information on what to expect during my visit. What is the visit like? What are any rules or restrictions enforced during the visit? I will be travelling by car from Atlanta, so if anyone also has information on the drive there from Atlanta I would appreciate that also. I also would like some information on the hotels in Port Wentworth which is the actual town that Coastal is located in. I was told by the warden's office that the closest hotels to Coastal on located on Highway 21 in Port Wentworth. I know y'all are not judgemental so,...when he went in he had just survived a suicide attempt and was documented as a meth addict. His state of mind was poor, to say the least. He got into this mess because he has significant back pain from a plane crash incurred while he worked for NASA. No doctor, no surgery, and no legitimate meds could help him. (I JUST found this out. I have had NO information until now and I honestly think I am going to have a heart attack or a stroke.) Nor will the gov't help him with health care & it is their responsibility!

First he was at Coastal dianostics for 8 weeks, then he was moved to Rodgers from March 03 until December 04. Now he is at Coastal Transitional Center (a halfway house) in the Long Term Maintianance Program. He still has A little over (July 06)a year left if he keeps being a goodboy, but if he gets into any trouble November 06.

My boyfriend has been at Cobb County Correctional since Friday (April 1st.) waiting to be transferred to Jackson for classification, etc. We were told that it would 4-5 days until he was to be transferred but he is hearing from others there that jackson is full and it's probably going to be quite a bit longer. Hey sad1, my b/f is in Coffee County. visitation is pretty nice. You do have face to face visits. Hug going in and leaving. As usual, no short, no halter tops, no sandals but some do get in. That were J is he has been there one yr next month. Its not bad. They calls for us are almost $8 for 15 minutes. When you call for visitation----be careful they are known for giving out the wrong schedule. So I always call several times and get several different co's to make sure.

My baby, Deon, is at Gwinnett County Detention Center right now waiting to go to diagnostics. We have been told that could be up to 8 months and he might parole from there at Gwinnett, or once he goes through diagnostics he will more than likely parole from there.

But, he just completed an executive clemency request and has to have it notorized..he is going to the law library on 5/10...this may spead up the process. This request basically asks for clemency and states the inmate has a valid parole address to parole to as well as a valid job. An attorney was incarcerated in his dorm and he drew this paper up for a few of the guys there and they have been granted parole right from there. He gained access to one of the requests and sent it home to me and I typed it up for him so it looks a little more professional and mailed it back to him..our fingers are surely crossed. They have since moved this attorney from the dorm because he was getting too many guys out.

Well after 6 months in Douglas County...2 months in Jackson for diagnostics...my man is finally at Washington State Prison where he will hopefully remain for the rest of his time. He just recently got moved...on Wednesday the 20th. I have yet to hear his voice since before leaving county and I am VERY anxious to do so!

Not state prison, but my son is waiting in county jail to be sent to Treutlen County Probation Detention Center for 6 months. All the time he has waited (over a month) does not count toward his sentence. It starts once he is transported.

My fience is in Colquitt County C.I. and if any of yall's men are still in Diognostics tell him to put in a request for there it is the most laid back prison I have ever heard of and the men in there don't get in that many fights becauseit's a work camp so they aren't all shoved in a room together they get to go out and work. They even have ways to sneak cell phones in there. I go out there every sunday to visit my man then I go drop off food and money and some other stuff in the woods where he will be workin the next day. (and ladies if your man has a cool detail officer you can go off in the woods with him and get some) For me it's 4hours away but I'm tellin you it's worth it and my man is so much happier now he's not in a bad mood when I talk 2 him anymore.

Not real sure where hubby will be ...he was sentenced to 54 months in the federal system on Dec.23. We have yet to recieve a letter telling us when and where...It reall scares me to think that he will be sent out of state.. He was charged with one count of mail fraud arising from fraudulent invoices at the hospital where he was V.P. everyone has tried to tell us that he will be in a min. secuity prison but i dont know what or who to believe anymore.

My son was at Phillips for several years and they just transfered him to Rutledge last week with no explanation. I am so new to this. My son and I were just reunited after a 34 year separation and he has been in prison for 15 years with 5 more to go. I would like information from anyone about Arrendale. I realize it is now a women's prison and for young offenders and supposed to be better than it was. However, I have a relative in there in admin seg and I am hearing tales of guards "visiting whenever they want" among other things. I am in contact with DOC Inmate affairs (for whatever that is worth) but would like any info I can get. I spoke with my relative's mental health counselor and while she couldn't tell me a lot because of dr/patient priviledge, what she did say left me with the impression that the accusations could be true but she couldn't say "because she didn't want to lose her job" (that's her quote). I would also appreciate any contacts with DOC beyond Inmate Affairs.

I don't have unlimited access to internet but I will be checking back. Thanks.

:confused: I know how you feel. My son is also at Rutledge. I have only seen him about 3 times in the last five years and it does hurt. They never really explained it to us but what we found out was he was moved from Hayes (maximum) facility to Rutledge which is a medium rating. They also have medical facilities there and that worried me but my son claims he is not sick or has ever been sick. He claims the treatment there is fair as long as you follow the rules. I wish he was able to work like he did at Hayes. Spending so much free time is not good. He reads a lot and has to take care of the showers in the morning but that is about it. I pray that all goes well with your son.

my daughter just got transferred to Alto (Arrendale) on july 11th. she is only 18 years old, and very immature for her age, so i'm in a constant, 24/7, state of worry about her well being. she will be there at least 8 months to 1½ years. though i also have to remind myself, she could end up having to serve her entire 5 years. i'm praying for early, very early, parole for her, as she is still young enough to get her life turned around. but i fear if she stays in the system too long, all hope of her future will be ruined. i've read & seen too many shows on TV about how such young offenders get highly influenced by their enviroment and end up coming out worse than they were. :(

Diagnostics restricts calls initially, but perhaps he will be able to get one through ... sometimes the chaplain's allow this. Again, welcome to Georgia and PTO!!!!!!!!!

I live in Ohio and my best friend is in ASMP where the visits has changes just in the last couple of times that I have been to see him. I try to see him at least 3 times a year, and talk every other week due to the calls being so high

Thank for the welcome I need it I just need for him to stay out of trouble because I have only visited on Special Out of Town passes. But he had a DR this year and with the new warden I have to go on a regular visiting list, I hope its not going to be a hard process. I also have to wait until November to try to get on the list. I was suppose to visit in August this sucks big time I glad I didn't buy a plane ticket yet. So is the Application process going to be hard?

No, lmonet, it is just the regular process you have to go through for regular visiting lists. You should not have a problem. The worst thing is the waiting until November :( I am so sorry you had planned and wanted to go in August, and now cannot. It will all be okay, in the long run- just frustrating that they cannot add you now. Hugs! I know how tough this is. Once the application is completed and turned in it is only a short time when you will hear from him that all is ok!! :)

My son was moved yesterday from Jackson to Walker State Prison, Rock Springs, GA - got 12 years. Anyone know anything about this prison? Any info would be appreciated. I am new to PT so help please.

I have a brother, Ralph E. Woodall which is at Wilcox State Prison. He has been there for only two weeks. He's in prison on a probation violation. He does not know when he will get out. He had three years left on his ten year probation sentence. He supposedly violated a general provision of his probation conditions.

Ralph says nothing is provided at Wilcox. If you ain't got money being sent to you O-WELL!!!!!

My husband is there as well. He has been there for almost 3 weeks. He seems to like it better there than in Jackson. The place is privately owned and run by a bunch of women. The visitations are awesome. You can hug and kiss each other when you get there and when you leave. It is an open room visitation and you get to stay for 5 hours at a time. Bring money cause there are vending machines with real food in there, well kinda real, fully cooked reheat foods. It says that you can bring $20 and the machines take 1 dollar bills. It is a really long drive for me, I live in the atlanta area, took me and my kids about 5 hours to get there. The visitation is on saturdays and sundays and the times are different depending on which building they are in but you can come both days. There is a little town outside of nicholls ga that we stayed at that has hotels called alma. Call the number at the bottom and find out when his visitation time is. I visited him on his 3rd day there. You have to make sure you are on his list and bring your ID and don't wear shorts or anything revealing. You may have to fill out what is call a significant other form because you are not married. Go to the Corrections corporations of America web site for more info. There is a whole list of rules for visitation. If you write to him be sure to put your name and full address on the return envelope and include his GDC ID number on it. You will also need to have that ready when you call and when you visit. Also he will be able to call you soon if not already, the guy that was doing all of that there was out for a while and is now back, but the calls add up to be about $8 per call. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. This is how I address my envelopes:

first chance for parole is after 14 years, they usually do NOT get it the first time, then every 7 yrs after that.

i'd say expect NOTHING so anything good that happens would be a nice surprise. it was my daughter's first offense too, (she was only age 17 at the time), but the judge didn't give any leniency for that.

if you read the forums you will find that most everyone seems to think GA is about the worse possible state when it comes to anything good for our loved one's.

be glad if you can visit and/or have halfway decent phone calls. my daughter is an 8 hour (round trip) & i'm disabled, so i've not seen her in over 2 years now & since i'm out of state, our phone calls are $20+ PER 15 minutes! :(

I was told my daughter will be going to Metro State Prison for diagnostics, and I am so worried. She takes prescription medications, will they continue to give her the meds? I would like to know if the guards are male or female. Is there anything she needs to know that will help her once she's there. Should she take money with her and if so how much? Also, is it air conditioned? Are there certain people she needs to avoid and things she shouldn't do? This is our first experience with prison and we don't know what to expect. I would appreciate any information.

i don't think you should be "too worried/concerned" about metro for diagnostic's. your main concern will be wherever your daughter ends up going once finished with diagnostic's, as that will probably be much more long term for her. (and there are only 3 female prison's in the state). i don't know but hopefully she will get her meds at metro AND wherever she goes after that. my daughter finally quit taking her meds completely, as she said they didn't help her any. :(

my daughter was only at metro for about 1-1½ weeks before being transferred to lee arrendale in alto, GA. though i've seen some post that diagnostic's takes much longer. (perhaps the female facility is different than the male as far as how long diagnostic's take??).

she didn't have any money with her when she went to metro (nor arrendale), but i do know metro made her throw away a lot of her papers/pictures from county. actually, all but just a few of each. but she WAS able to call me while at metro.

your questions will be much more important when they pertain to wherever she will end up at. and i can say my daughter told me that at arrendale,,, the guards (aka CO's) treat them better at arrendale than the one's in county did. i know at least some, if not all, CO's are female at arrendale. and from what she's said, it's much better there all the way around. though right now, she has been transferred to another county that just served/charged her in that county, & from what little she's told me, it's horrible where she's at now. every time i talk to her she says she can't wait to get back to arrendale. so that tells me it has to be a *huge* difference in the two places. :(

IF your daughter will listen to you (mine wouldn't),,, just tell her to mainly not talk to anyone about her personal stuff. keep it all to herself & don't try to make friends. pals are probably ok, but this is NOT the place to make friends and tell "all" to. she should try to get along with most everyone, but also keep to herself at the same time, if you can understand what i'm saying. she doesn't want to tick off the wrong person, but she also doesn't want to get too involved with others,, and perhaps end up in some kind of gang or something.
my daughter took to spending most of all of her free time outside, because she said there was always too much "drama" going on inside. but she's too young to realize the severe affects it might have on her, that she has yakked her personal stuff to others. i stressed to her over and over and over,,, to NOT talk to ANYONE, but she chose to not listen to my advice. and i even referred her to so many TV programs, that you always hear them say to NOT talk about your personal stuff when locked up. :(

so if i can stress anything, i think it's to have your daughter be able to understand the importance of keeping her personal info to herself, no matter how much she thinks someone will keep quiet about it if she were to tell them. this just isn't a place to be airing your personal stuff if you know what i mean.

my daughter was only 17 when arrested in 2005, & this is our first time of dealing with all of this too. and it's even harder because i'm disabled & live in SC, & can't drive the 8 hour (round trip) to visit her, so i've not seen her in almost 2 years now.

it's not easy & i can't say that it get's any better with time. just try to hang in there,, because as us mother's know, our children need us the most right now.

though truth be told, i need my daughter too. :(

oh,,it is NOT air conditioned at arrendale & i "think" most of the places are the same. unless it's a fairly new facility.

Thank you Sunshine's Mom. This information really means a lot to me. She's never been away from her family. She always called me 2-3 times a day. Can I send her money via Western Union so she doesn't have to call me collect? Also can she take new under clothes as long as they in package and never opened? This forum is great! It has helped me so much and I also joined Al-Anon for a support group. My daughter is with me for now but any day I could get the call to return her to jail and then is will be taken from there. I really dread that 20 mile drive. I'm afraid she will be so emotional (and me too) and I just pray I can give her some encouragement.

what does TPM mean?[

TMP=tenative parole month
PIC= performance incentive credit

i'm in a hurry right now, but it's either TMP or TPM, and it's the tenative date of their early parole that will eventually show on the DOC (dept. of corrections) website, and i think you can also call a # to see if this date has been entered yet. though i think they have to serve xxx amount of their time before they give them a TPM date at all..

the PIC date is what they give them for so called "good behavior" , etc. & i think most times the PIC date is about 6 months earlier than the TMP date. (i may be wrong in this assumption, but my daughter's PIC date was 6 months prior to her TPM date).

however, i don't think my daughter will get either since she's now been transported to another county for charges there. what a mess, that one very grave *mistake* in judgement of character on her part as a young teenager, appears it's going to ruin the rest of her life! :(

My son is at Macon State Prison. He was at Coastal State Prison, then Burruss Boot Camp, then Ga. Diagnostics and now he is at Macon State Prison.

My fiance started out at Gwinnett County on June 1st, then was moved to Coastal State Prison on July 17th, and then just yesterday he was moved to Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, GA. Hope fully this will be his last move and he'll stay there til he gets out on December 22nd.

Sounds like your new at this! So am I! My husband has been at Jackson for going on 12 weeks now and I pray everyday that they move him soon. But I know God has a plan and a time for everything so I know I must be patient and I will be rewarded.

Don't let the max. release date letter scare you. Yes, they get credit for time served in the jail and depending on the charges and his behavior in prison he will probably only serve about half of the 6 year sentence.

I have networked and befriended several other ladies with loved ones in Georgias prison system. We have regular get togethers and share information on the different prisons and their experiences. It has helped me alot not only with the information but spiritually as well. You see we all believe in God and he gives us the strength to get through all the pain and loneliness.

If you don't already know, your loved one will not be able to have any visitors until he has been in Jackson 6 weeks. You can call the prison and get the exact date he will be allowed visitors.

They only allow family to visit, so you need to ask them about fiance' visits.

Visitation is Mon.-Fri. (once a week) and you can choose the time of 9-11 or 2-4. Mondays and Fridays are very crowded and afternoons can be also. I usually go 9-11 on Tues. or Wed. and it's not to bad.

You are not allowed to wear shorts, halters or be braless. No flip flop shoes or sandles, but I've seen several people get in with them.

He will not be allowed to make any phone calls to you until he has been in Jackson for 5 months and most are shipped out shortly after their 6 weeks diagnostic/ classificatiion.

Don't expect much when you do have your visit. You can not touch them and you talk to them through a heavy screen in a room full of other people yelling over each other.

If you have any more questions or would like to get together with other women in your situation for support let me know. It really helps me in knowing we have each other. My husband got 25 years but we are waiting on his appeal and praying for Gods deliverance.

welcome to PTO & i'm so glad you found it (PTO) early on,, during this turmoil in your life. mine started in july 2005 & i didn't find this website until may 2006.

my (now almost 20 year old) daughter spent 11 months in dekalb county jail (starting july 2005 & only 4 months after she had turned 17). she was finally sentenced in april '06,, went to diagnostic's in july '06,, then transferred to arrendale state prison 3-4 weeks later. (and that word,, PRISON,, still literally kills me just to read/type it!!).
then in june '07 she was shipped off to clayton county to await sentencing for charges that happened within a week of the one in dekalb county in 2005. but clayton county "sat on it" & didn't charge her,, until they saw her TPM date (temporary parole month) hit the GA. DOC. (dept. of corrections website. you'll learn a LOT of abbreviations as time goes on. :thumbsup: ). she was sentenced in clayton county in august '07,, & then returned to arrendale.

the bad news i have for you,, is that from my experience with my daughter,, clayton county jail must be one of the very worse jails in the state of GA.
while i'm disabled & in SC & can't go visit her,, (her trouble came about while she was only "visiting" in the state of GA.),, during the entire time she's been incarcerated,, she had NEVER,, not even once,, complained about her living conditions/treatment until she got to clayton county. and whatever happened there must have been pretty bad,, because it took a LOT out of her for a very long time.
perhaps (hopefully) it will be better for you since it's your husband,, as maybe they treat males/females differently in clayton county.

while i can't give you any real pertinent info,, as i don't have similiar circumstances,, (it's your husband whereas with me, it's my daughter),, i did want to tell you that tidbit about clayton county. albeit others may have had better treatment & might be able to share it with you,, to help ease your mind some.

i'm completely alone & have absolutely no one to lean on for support so it's really rough for me. so if you have family members/friends that will even attempt to try to understand some of your emotions/concerns,, (and it WILL be a very long roller coaster ride,, with a LOT of ups/downs along the way),, lean on them for ALL the support you can get,, because you will most definitely need it. and no one should have to go thru this hell alone.

Why does GA DOC have to be "SOOOOOOOOOOO CRAZY" about things?

The counselor cant give permission but they can tell you if you are approved or not.

I don't know who his counselor is as of yet. I should find out from him soon though. I am thinking his Mom might give her a call here soon once we find out.

hi miralari628, it took my husband 3 weeks to called us once he got to coastal because they have to go through a process and classes about everything, they have orentation, something called classifacation and no telling what else but he was only there 1month and1/2 then they shipped him to washington state prison where he still is. i hope this help a little. My husband was sent from Baldwin County Diag about two weeks ago to Carroll County C.I.; however, we live in Gwinnett County and he wanted to move to either Hall or Jackson County C.I. Can someone please give me some feedback regarding the two? Can I send care packages? Are visitations on the weekends and for how long? Is it okay or would anyone recommend the transfer? Klyn, I will tell you about my trip when I get back. The people at GPS were usually nice to me but they were inconsistent. One day they would enforce a rule the next time they would not. I once got on the grounds only to be told that I needed to wait somewhere else because I was too early. As I was literally pulling out on to the road another car came up and was not stopped. I hope Wilcox is more consistent, the only thing is that it is twice as far away....boo hoo....

eeria sorry to tell you but MOST are like that..They make up the rules as they go in Ga.We are at our 3rd place and they are all the same...

My trip to Wilcox was GREAT! But as usual Mapquest got some of the details wrong. The distance was not quite as far as they said and instead of driving 3 hours and 39 minutes I only drove around 2 hours and 20 minutes. I got on 280 at the Pembroke exit on I-16. It was a fairly straight shot from there. I got there a half and hour early, which was good because the line had already started forming. They let the first 10 people and then the next ten. Once inside it was very relaxed. Until like GPS, men were holding their children. There is no red line that they can't cross. I saw one guy go to the microwave. The guards were very nonintrusive. I was seated next to my husband and he asked me was I the only visitor and when I said yes, he asked me to move across from my husband and then apologized, saying that it was a rule they had to remind us about. One guy had his feet on the table and the guard asked him to put his feet on the floor. All in all it was very relaxed. I didn't feel like I was being scrutinized the whole time. I will see if this atmosphere continues. The only really silly thing was that only one of the machines with real food was working (I use the term real food lightly). This machine had a constant line and by around 1:00 it was empty. The visitation room was the largest I have ever seen and it was almost completely filled.

To Mom of Arthur, my son who is 21 was transferred to Coastal last October 2007 and was there until the end of February, he seemed to do fine there, i talked to him twice a week and he always seemed to be happy (as much as he could be since it is prison). I think Arthur will do just fine, you know as mothers we worry about our babies and what we see on t.v. with the prison shows and movies sure doesn't make it any easier for us, but i do think he'll be okay. I know this is horrible but between me and my friends we knew 6 different guys that went to prison in the past 6-7 months and all of them went to Coastal first and as far as i know none of them had any trouble there. Hope this helps a little.
To eeniaLorr, those vending machines are ALWAYS like that. I have gone down to Wilcox at least 5 or 6 times and they are like that every single time. I even thought about seeing if they needed me to take over the job filling them up, but i couldn't afford putting t-bone steaks in all of them (lol)

my fiance' has been at calhoun since late january. they use gtl for the phone system and i was able to get calls relatively quickly. he will have to add you to his list and attempt to call your house. then you can set up an account with gtl. the # is 800.231.0193. i was also added to his visitors list soon after i returned the so form.

an issue we had when he first got there was that his mail was held up. i called up there almost every day for about 2 or 3 weeks. they got tired of me calling & they finally got it together. we haven't had any problems with mail since. the administrators are slow as molasses and you have to continually follow up if you need something done. they are not proactive in doing their jobs and if they don't know how to do something, they won't try to figure it out.

my man hates it at calhoun. he doesn't care for the dorm style and he complains there is too much dead time.

My Hubby is at Coffee Correctional Facility. How is this place rated?

My son has been in Coffee since March. I don't know about ratings. From what I have heard it is a safe place in comparison to some State Prisons. Some dorms are more desirable than others. My son's dorm seems to be pretty mellow, so far. Thank GOD! I am constantly praying for them, since these men are so cooped up with very little to do.
They do have two t.v.'s, in their dorm, which usually get turned on late in the day. One of the t.v.'s is usually on ESPN or a sports channel. That has been great for my son, since he loves football.
The staff seems okay. I have never had any problems with them and they are usually quite pleasant when visiting.
It's really hard to know what the place is really like behind closed doors. I just hope and continually pray that these people overseeing our loved ones have a conscience and are fair to our loved ones.:)

My dear Ken is in Jackson. He's finished with his tests and waiting to be shipped to somewhere else, asap as Jackson sucks very much. l wished he was out of any jail, first he shouldn't be in jail at all.

My hubby is in Jefferson. Seems like a pretty good place so far. He's only been there about 3 weeks now. It is about a 2 1/2 hr ride for me but I've gone the last 2 weekends and plan on trying to continue to go every weekend. Do you know anything about Jefferson or are you just wanting your man there because it is close to home?

I actually know a little about the place cuz the first time my fiance was in prison that is where he finished up his time. I know one of the guards and everyone calls him dep. But your husband should actually like it there. If he knows anything about working heavy equipment he will be able to go and scrap the county roads and work with the tractors. But they have a lot of jobs that he can do to keep him occupied for the time being. How long will he be in Jefferson or do you know.

I don't know how long he will be there. He has only been there about 3 weeks so far. We are still waiting on him to be given a TPM. He has a 5 yr sentence. He said he trying to get on the heavy equipment detail. I don't think he has any experience with heavy equipment though so don't know how that will go. So far, he does say he likes being there compared to what he's heard about other places. This is his first time doing state time or anything over 30 days.

he will love doing the heavy equipment detail. it will allow him to get out of the prison walls for a few hours a day. And even though he may not have the experince they will teach him how to operator a motor grader and things like that. that's one of the reasons my fiance is determand to go back to Jefferson. At least there they will allow him time out side away from the prison. but if your husband is there next year and my fiance gets transferred maybe we will see each other. I do wish you the best of luck. this is my first time dealing with a situation like this. but i'm getting through it one day at a time.

My husband is now at Smith State Prison in Glenville, Ga. Its near Savannah. I have visited him twice. The place is alright and the guards are very nice. The only thing I hate is I have to sit across from him and not touch him. Do you know how hard that is. But we can hug and kiss at the beginning and the end of the visit. You should see everyone when the guard says 5 minutes left to visit everyone stands up and you talk about some kissing boy does it happen.

my husband got to jackson - Ga Diag. on Feb. 24, and its now March 30. wrote last week and said that he was finished with diagnostics. waiting to be shipped out , but doesnt know where. he only has a 10 month sentence for probabtion violation in cobb county. had his parole hearing while in diag., but i havent heard from PO. so he doesnt even have a TPM date yet.

Central State outside of Macon now and I am so glad because he has 8 months left and is not having problems here!!!

My husband just recently got moved from Smith State Prison to Central State near Macon. I went to see him today for the first time by myself, my daughters usually go with me and do the driving well I made it there great but on the way back I took a wrong turn and ended up lost in downtown Atlanta I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown before I finally found I-20, I was so glad to get home. It sure was good to see him though especially since today was Easter.

my hubbie got his permanent, he is staying at ga diag. - jackson . does anyone know if once they are permanent at jackson (ga diag) do they get contact visits. i called and they told me i am on his list, but i never got any kind of letter to file out to apply for visitation. i heard that they send this to u so they can do the background check on visitors

Yes if he is permanent at Jackson you will get to visit him you can hug and kiss at the beginning and ending of each visit but no touching during visit. If you are on the visitation list you have already been approved meaning they have already done a background check on you. At least that is the way it was when my husband was at Jackson.

MY man is in Smith State Prison in Glennvill Ga. I just visited him this weekend. It was great!! I drove from S. Florida in the rain and got to visit sat., sun., and Memorial day. Everyone there seems pretty cool.

MSP now has the additional dorm-like fast track thing going on. Just like many GA prisons lately, there have been a lot of transfers, both in and out. It is in Oglethorpe, not too far from Perry. From MY experience, staff was professional in that they responded to your inquiries in a timely fashion, except one counselor. During visitation, I did not encounter any problem. From my loved one's perspective, the store was inadequate.

My son is at Bostick prison - I have an important question (at least to me it is very important) where could I find the answer ( I am new to PTO)

My son got 12 years (5 drug charges) (4 in one night) and one 9 months before the other- largest drug charge was trafficing meth 95-199 (amount not sure of now but think this is right) HE HAS NOW SERVED 54 MONTHS OF A CONCURRENT SENTENCE FOR ALL OFFENSES (MOST i AM TOLD SERVE 1/3 OF THEIR TIME BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED FOR PAROLE) HERE IS MY QUESTION- MY SON WAS IN rICHMOND cOUNTY AND HAD A SMALL CHARGE OF POSSESSION OF METH 9 MONTHS BEFORE HE WAS PCIKED UP WITH ALL THE OTHER DRUGS- OFFENSES WAS FOR TOW DIFFERENT COUNTIES BUT IN THE SAME JUDICIAL COURT HE DID NOT GO TO COURT FOR ANY OF THE CHARGES UNTIL THE DAY HE WAS SENTENCED FOR ALL OF THEM- hE BONDED OUT OF THE FIRST OFFENSE AND THEN THE NIGHT OF THE REST OF THE OFFENSES HE WAS CAUGHT IN A MOTEL ROOM WITH DRUGS AND WAS PUT IN rICHMOND COUNTY AND BONDED OUT THAT NIGHT AND WAS PICKED UP AS SOON AS HIS FEET TOUCHED GROUND AND TAKEN TO HIS HOME AND WAS AGAIN CHARGED FOR DRUGS- MY QUESTION IS THEY GAVE HIM 6 DAYS FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE JAIL TIME ( AS THAT IS HOW LONG HE WAS IN BEFORE HE BONDED OUT AND 366 DAYS FOR THE OFFENSES IN COLUMBIA COUNTY JAIL- SO THEY HAVE NOW ADDED A YEAR ONTO WHAT THEY HAD AT FIRST - THEY SAY BECAUSE HE DOES NOT GET ONE YEAR FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE IN RICHMOND COUNTY BECAUSE HE WAS ONLY IN JAIL 6 DAYS NOT LIKE TH EOTHER COUNTY WHERE HE WAS IN FOR 366 DAYS- EVEN THOUGH HE GOT SENTENCED FOR ALL OFFENSES AT THE SAME TIME BY THE SAME JUDICIAL COURT JUDGE IN THE SAMD JUDICIAL CIRCUIT- SHOULD HE GET THE 366 DAYS FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE OR NOT- HELP ME PLEASE I WANT HIM TO COME HOME SO BAD

you need to get a copy of the transcript of when your son was sentenced. it will state whether or not he is credited time served. start by contacting the county clerk's office. once you get the transcript, it will verify (or not) your claim. if so, then you would have to send copies of it to the parole board and inmate classification and the office that does sentence calculations. the ga doc does not take one's word for it, so it is up to you to prove to them what you claim. i wish you the best in getting your boy home as soon as possible.

on an unrelated note just to make you aware, when you type in ALL CAPS, it is equivalent to yelling at others.

I just dropped off my hubby to FCI Jesup, Ga 2 days ago. I think this is the hardest thing we've gone through in the 8+ years we've been together. It doesn't help that we live 7 hours away in the Florida panhandle. My kiddos are keeping me going at this point.

My loved one is currently at Telfair S.P. in Helena, Ga. So far He's been @ Wilcox, Hancock, Coffee, Johnson...serving 20 yrs. Miss him so much. Hard for me to travel to visit him from Bronx, Ny to Georgia. But we 'speak' often (2 maybe 3 times a week). I thank God in heaven we are able to do that, at least- and with good laughter. I'm thankful for the small things.

My loved one is currently at Telfair SP in Helena, Ga. Since his incarceration, he's been at Hancock, Johnson, Coffee,Wilcox... (maybe 1 or 2 more). I miss him so much. Hard trying to visit him, coming from Bronx, Ny to Georgia. Nevertheless, we 'speak' about 2-3 times a week- with encouraging talk- and with laughter! I be so thankful for that, when I hear it in his voice. I'm thankful for the small things.

My dude is currently at Washington State Prison in Davisboro, Ga. He has been incarcerated for 5 years now and has been in Coffee, Telfair, Johnson, and now Washington. Out of all...he liked Coffee the best. Says that the food there was better than any other.
