On Sunday when I went to Rikers to see my son's father I bumped into his uncle who just got out a couple of months back up there visiting his old girlfriend. He called me to get the visiting schedule and I gave it to him not knowing he is not allowed to visit because he is on parole. His cousin said that he might be going back because of that visit and I feel bad. He is mentally slow and I honestly don't think he knew of this rule if it does in fact exist. I hope they will take his mental state into account before they just put him back in because he is harmless.

No, if you are on parole or probation you are not supposed to have any contact with a convicted felon. i do know that you can get permission from your parole/probation officer and the facility but they don't usually give it.
i think that rule is stupid, but that is in most prsions.
best wishes to you
Unfortuantely that is true...that's such a shame though, since he didn't know. Hopefully he won't suffer for that.
This also applies to those who have completed their sentence and want to visit someone in prison. Many states have regulations with some kind of time frame that a released person must wait before visiting [and then they need approval from the DOC]. In NJ it is 2 years. To get an exception it must be a family member.

There are two separate policies here. 1) The prison has it's own policy about ex-inmates visiting inmates and, 2) the probation office has the same policy. Now one has to fight 2 evils apples from the same tree.

You must keep in mind that Riker IS NOT a prison therefore most inmates have not yet been sentenced and the rule may not apply. Please, Please advice this man or call the NYC DOC for there policy. I would hate to see his visit become a violation of his parole.
