I am new to all this. My fiance' is in county waiting transfer to fed prison for a 12 month sentence. We have 8 months to go. He has already been in for 4 months and been moved 4 times. Twice to the same county jail. He is now back where he began. Can anyone give me info. on fed prisons around Charlotte. His lawyer requested Seymour Johnson but I know with the feds, you don't always get a choice. I also have heard of Butner. He will be minimum. So any info will help. Thanks.

FPC Seymour Johnson and FCC Butner are the most likely. Both of them have space.

For what it's worth, I think that he should have a fairly decent shot at SEY unless he has something in his background that would prohibit that designation. If so, then odds would greatly favor Butner Camp (or worst case scenario Butner Low).

Thank you greyghost. I have been worried he will get sent far from home. But since they both have room I feel better. About how long does it take to get to your destination? I keep checking the bop website but he doesn't show. Will he have to get to his destination before he shows up? Thanks again?

You''re welcome.

Once all the appropriate paperwork has been received, it should not take more than 72 hours for the designation to be made. The key being 'all the paperwork'.

Good luck

Does anyone know if Butner is still a good place. My husband just got designated there? also what is the nearest hotel to stay at?

My brother is in Butner Low Security. It's cool to him. The Holiday Inn Express, the Comfort Inn and the Ramada are all only 4 miles away...

Butner's reputation continues to be good.

With Barack Obama’s victory in passing a massive stimulus package marred by days of bad press—as not a single House Republican backed the bill, his Health Czar went down in flames and his second pick for Commerce Secretary walked away—the administration has been cut down to size, and lost some of its bipartisan sheen
