SUPPORT ROBERT ROSENKRANTZ ON OCTOBER 8 AND DEMAND AN END TO DAVIS'
NO-PAROLE POLICY!
California Supreme Court
Tuesday, October 8th, 9 a.m n Meet at 8 a.m.
2525 Capitol St., Fresno
On October 8th, The California Supreme Court will decide the extent of Gov.
Davis' power to reverse parole recommendations of life termers in the case
of Robert Rosenkrantz, a model prisoner who has served 17 years behind
bars.
Davis is one of only three Governors nationwide who has the power to
reverse
parole recommendations for
prisoners convicted of murder. This ruling will have widespread
significance
for the struggle to release thousands of other California state prisoners
eligible for parole, including battered women who killed their abusers.
In 1985 Rosenkrantz was convicted of shooting an acquaintance who
threatened
to reveal that he was gay. He has had an exemplary record in prison and
was
recommended for parole in 2000 after the L.A. superior court ordered the
Board of Prison Terms (Parole Board) to reconsider their formerrejection of
his release. Davis reversed his parole, but in January 2002 the L.A.
Court
of Appeal ruled in favor of Rosenkrantz. Davis has appealed the issue
to
the California Supreme Court.
Because the Supreme Court will be meeting for the first time in Fresno on
October 8th, the entire hearing will be broadcast live on local t.v. and
the
press will be out in force. We need to demonstrate our strong belief
that
Robert Rosenkrantz and thousands of others should be released now based on
the law. The California Coalition for Battered Women in Prison (CCBWP)
is
organizing a peaceful show of support for Rosenkrantz in front of the
courthouse.
THE HEARING WILL BE AT:
