View Full Version : Facility Closures
Rostonhall 02-18-2004, 01:14 PM The Governor's speech says that Vadalia will close and the inmates sent to Lawrence and the youth facilities of Valley View and St. Charles are to be sold and the young people will be sent to Kewanee.
So, all speculation is over for another year and Stateville is to remain open.

Rostonhall 02-18-2004, 01:16 PM Sorry, that should read Vandalia, but I expect you gathered that.

I Missed That Today. Arg! Works Been Crazy!!!! Thank You For The Info. Yes, Puts The Mind At Ease, Somewhat, For Now. I Still Say He'd Be Better Off Somewhere Besides Stateville, For Conditions Reasons. Maybe I Am Just Selfish, But I Like Him Being Close. I Know He Wants To Get Moved Because He Hates It There, But Wants To Stay Because Of Me. He Wrote My Mom And Told Her He Doesn't Know If He Could Handle Being So Far Away From Me And Not Getting To See Me On A Regular Basis. But He Really Has No Control Over It, So We'll Take And Deal With Whatever Happens.
Rostonhall 02-18-2004, 01:26 PM Just don't ask me where I got the info from!!!
I hope something comes good for him soon. Stateville is a terrible place. Menard's a bit better but so far away. Some of the staff are really quite nice and if it wasn't for their job I'd probably get on well with the.

jimsenglishgeek 02-19-2004, 08:03 AM Interesting that they're closing Vandalia. I believe that's where the meat processing plant is.
I spoke with Jim last night and so far the meals are "normal" -- that is, the usual stuff. He's heard that they're supposed to start up with the new system sometime in March but didn't know if a new contract had been awarded or not.
Rostonhall 02-19-2004, 09:31 AM According to sources the contract haven't been awarded, mainly because they are trying to stop it in court, and the fact that the one mainly interested has pulled out.

jimsenglishgeek 02-19-2004, 04:07 PM Anyone have the governor's email address?

This may help
Rostonhall 02-19-2004, 05:24 PM email: governor@state.il.us
jimsenglishgeek 02-19-2004, 05:35 PM I tried that but it came back as undeliverable for some reason.
Maybe he's stopped accepting emails, like GW at the White House.
Another question -- has anyone heard/read anything about the union's reaction to Gov's speech? I'm sure they're not real happy... but then, they're under the mistaken impression the inmates are there because the officers need a job.
Rostonhall 02-19-2004, 05:43 PM They are not happey little bunnies and are threatening to descend on Springfield to protest. They say 'they' put the Governor in so it's up to them to bring him down. There's also a lot of infighting because another union wants to take on the prison service workers and some of them don't like it. Poor souls, they are having to join the real world where no job is safe and for life anymore. They really think they can stop the closures.
I would think the Governor has been getting a lot of abusive emails so that's probably why you can't get him at that address.

TONYGIRL 02-20-2004, 04:28 PM What ever contracts they had with any companies for the DOC they were all cancelled.
Rostonhall 02-20-2004, 05:03 PM Those happy little souls who think the prisons are there just to give them job security are marching on Springfield on 25th February. I think they believe they can stop the closures!!
