Ok, we are not talking about the ESSB thing that went through last july.
I have heard about NEW propsed legislation that would allow EVEN more inmates, (perhaps even violent offenders and sex offenders) a new half time or release date.
This is for washington and i am wondering if anyone had HEARD of this or if they have info on it or a URL.
the word i heard was due to 911 federal government is reducing or completely stopping its funding of state prisons therefore they are proposing new legislatur to release even more prisoners.
Lemme know what you know.
If i am not here and you wanna chat I am as always on yahoo as

We are still witing ever so patiently for the court date we got in king county on march 11. he wrote the judge and the judge is sending for him for a modification of judgement and sentence.
Pray for us.

Did you hear this from the "inside"? I have not been able to confirm this "rumor" but I'm keeping an eye out. ESSB was a scam, the total release numbers are on the DOC website http://www.wa.gov/doc/ and I think it's something like a total of some 46 or 49 inmates in WA that actually get to be released. The Families Against Manditory Minimums website at www.famm.org is usually really on top of the prison type bills around the country and in congress, but I haven't seen anything yet on their site.
By the way - www.famm.org has a great page called "action alert" - you can put your name and address in there and it will bring up all the bills in our state and congress that need citizen support or opposition. They have a cool thing where they already have the letters written up to the Senators or Reps and you just kind of pick and choose what you want to say to them in support or opposition of what ever bill. They send the emails immediately to the reps and you get a confirmation that your email was sent.
There are three right now in congress that really need support.
1) allowing ex-drug felons to be able to apply for DSHS support (food stamps etc). Currently if you've been convicted of a drug felony you can't get any public assistance. This bill will hopefully change that.
2) allowes ex-drug felons to get student loans for college. Those who have been convicted of a drug felony can't get college assistance. This is a great bill and has lots of college groups and students supporting it.
3) The third one will allow ex-drug felons to be able to apply for section 8 housing benefits. Currently - our "war on drugs" won't let ex-drug felons get houseing -
I urge everyone to get onto their site and support these bills. - It will help all of us.

I am going to check out that site and sign up for alerts.. The ESSB that you are talking about that you say was a scam - is that the 5990 bill??? If so it worked for my boyfriend - he got half-time for his offense which knocked off 10 months of his sentence..
Also as I am aware certain drug felonies don't knock the person out for getting student loans... at least that is what I had seen.. Also, correct me if I'm wrong - even if they have had one of the ohter drug felonies if they show they completed a drug tx program they are still eligible.. is that right????
Thanks for all the info. you posted on here......

Well for those of us who have drug felons in our life it helps... lol.. but mostly it's just a bill that makes it more equal.. just because someone has a drug felony and they now have straightened out their life (hopefully) they should also be able to get the benefits allotted to other people too.
Hope all is well!!!!!!!!!!!!
