Joey just got transfered to Alhambra on February 13th. Which is the reception place, before he goes to Prison. I really know nothing about this whole process, so I was wondering if anyone knew if they can still receive mail at Alhambra. I know they can not use the phones, nor have visits. But can they still get mail there? If someone knows anything about this place, could you let me know? Thanks

My guy went to Alhambra just 8 mos. ago so I wouldnt recomend writing because he will only be there about 2 weeks and then they ship him off to wherever hes going ...they do testing there and evaluate them ...you will probly get a big box in the mail with the clothes he had on when he got arrested and he can write you ..but by the time you try to write back they are gone ..plus they use different booking numbers now ...not the one he had in county but if you keep checking the ADC website with his last name you can find him they update every monday ...good luck christine

Well I dont know why I would not be able to write to him. When I send his mail anyways, he always gets it the next day. So I could write him 10 letters while he is there and he would get them. Plus, I already picked up all his property a bout a week ago, so I wouldnt need to worry about that. I already have his new ADC number. I had it about 5 hours after he got transferred. But I just dont wanna send somehting, then they send it back cuz he is not allowed to get mail there. If they are then Ill send it cuz he'll get it the next day.

WRITE HIM!!! This is the hardest time for these guys cause they are locked up 23 hours a day, so mail him letters, they will be forwarded to his new location when he is moved. You can also call to find out if they know where he is going, they will tell you the day he is moved. The 2 weeks is long if he is not getting any mail. My husband said that the letters is what kept him from going crazy. He can mail you 2 a week on them. You should get his box of property that he had in county soon too. WRITE HIM!!!

I already picked up all his property from COunty, when he was still in county. It was nothing too important. Just his clothes and his cell phone and thats about it.

I was so sad - the first time I saw him after I had gotten his stuff back, he said they threw away his underwear. I gave that to him! They were these cool blue boxers from quicksilver with red dragons on them.
My baby told me it was pretty bad at Alhambra. He was able to send me mail, but I couldn't get any contact with him. I knew where he was the whole time, but he was so scared for me. I know it is so tough for them - locked up 23 hours a day. He said every minute felt like an hour. They get tested and given shots in every new place they go. Carlos, poor baby, got sent to SMU I before he was transferred to Cook, so he got his shots 3 times. He told me he only had to sleep on the floor once. But they are only there for like 2 weeks, and then they are sent out. They don't really take any consideration into where YOU are as to where HE'S going to be because of overcrowding. Mostly while he's there he will be evaluated. They evaluate his crime, if it's ND/NR - use of weapon, drugs, alchohol, his motivation ot work and be educated. Then all those factors are used to evaluate his risk to the public, and the risk to the institution. That will decide where he will be. You should be able to see his evaluation online before he is shipped out. Then you can try to guess where they might put him. I just had this weird feeling my baby was going to be in Eyman, and he was! Lord, I pray that he will come home soon.
Once you see him again, things get a little lighter... it's a little bit easier to breathe.
