1sassysistah 08-03-2004, 02:42 AM Hello Max and welcome to the PTO family. This can be a very supportive and caring group of folks. The education you will get here is invaluable. Once again welcome aboard.
AS for High Dessert Prison, yes it is a living nightmare. Some yards stay on lockdown for most of the year. Other yards are not too bad. There are others here who can give you a more detailed and descriptive account on what goes on -- on a day to day basis.
What yard is your boy friend on??
As for me my husband pretty much keeps to himself and does his time. So I am not your best source of information for questions you may have.
At the moment "B" yard and "C" yards are currently on lockdown. On B yard there was a riot (fists fight) between the Black and Asian inmates. Supposedly those who were involved in the fights have been and are being sent to the hole. As for C yard they stay on lockdown for long periods of time.
Visiting room A does not get real crowded. As for visitng rooms for yards D, E, F -- I am not sure -- hopefully someone else can fill you in on that.
As for phone calls they come in thru MCI and they are billed as collect calls. There is no phone card systems, as yet.
Visiting is Saturday and Sunday from 8 am til 2:30 pm.
Before visiting always call the visiting hot line it is a 800 number. I am not sure what it is -- hopefully someone will have and can give it to you. Or you can call directly to HD (530) 251-5100 and the pre-recorded message will give you the 800 number for visiting and the lockdown status.
The line for visiiting begins forming anywhere from 6:15. However you cannot stand in line in front of the bldg until 7:15, they are very strict with this rule.
The dress code is the same as most of the prisons.
If you have been approved to visit your boyfriend should have sent you a green sheet of paper with all the do's and don't's on it.
You can being in $30 in one dollar bills or quarters for use in the vending machines in the visiting room.
If you have to visit behind the glass it is best to call ahead and schedule an appointment for your one hour visit behind the glass. As the visiting times do sometimes tend to fill up fast.
If you have any other questions you can PM me at any time.
FLACOYBABYGIRL 08-06-2004, 04:40 PM Hello Max I am New to PTO myself. My Fiance is at HDSP and has been there for a few years. He himself had not had any problems there but has told me a few things that have gone on in there. It is not one of the best prisons to be in. He does get to make COLLECT phone calls to me 3 times a week as long as his facility is not on lock down. They do get on lock down alot cuz they do alot of cell check threwout the year. The staff there is alright and are sometimes friendly in visiting. If you ever plan to go visit him make shure you call ahead of time to check if the facility he is in is on lock down or not. The # you can call is 800-374-8474 and press 1 then 1 agen and then 2 and listen for his facility. I hope that helps you.
Bob-bi-lu 08-08-2004, 04:05 PM Hey Max, sorry I can't give you any recent info. but I can tell you that my man was at CCI Susanville which is right next to High Desert back in 2000. I live in San Jose, CA and when he was there I would drive to visit him every weekend....boy did I hate that drive. It took me 6 1/2 hours 1-way just to get there and our visits were non-contact behind the glass for 2 hours. The freeway to get there I believe is Highway 395..yuk! One lane to get there and one lane to get out of there, very awful, and that's not mentioning the drive in the snow during the winter time. The whole experience for me was awful and I'm just glad he's no longer there.
To answer one of your questions, the only calls they can make are collect through MCI. No calling cards are allowed.
Bob-bi-lu 08-08-2004, 04:09 PM Woops..I almost forgot to say HAPPY late BIRTHDAY Max8281 and welcome to PTO! :grouphug:
