That unit hasn't had a family day since my husband has been there (several years) and the marriage seminars are up to the Chaplains. Between one of the Chaplains getting fired for smuggling letters out of DR and the entire inmate church staff getting fired after the escape attempt I highly doubt they will offer any marriage seminars anytime soon. But it never hurts to ask ...

I had no clue about the church staff. They helped the inmates try to escape? That's messed up. I just thought I'd ask. He mentioned it and I was curious. I'm still real new to the prison system and what's up.

Oh no, I didn't say they helped the other inmates with the escape attempt, they just all got fired after the incident ...

When my husband was at that unit they had family day twice a year. I think it was like in Oct & April...something like that. Anyway my husband would get the application from the Chaplain's office and mail it to me. You had the option of going for family day either Sat or Sun. You fill out the application and mail it to the Chaplain's office. They verify the application and if you are approved you will get a letter in the mail stating you are approved and what time you need to be there. If I remember correcly you had to be there around 8 am. The would come out around 9 am and check everyone in in groups. Once you get checked in you are escorted to a room. There they give you the rules and from there you are escorted back to the the Gym. Once in the gym you sit down. Once everyone is in the gym one by one they announce and bring in the guys. You are there with you loved one sitting right next to you or in front of you for about 4 hours. You eat with your loved one, listen to music, or watch a movie, and you get your pictures taken. They set up a nice background and you get your pictures taken. It is really nice and for just that moment you feel so close to your loved one it is like a fresh breath of air. You can contact the Chaplain's office to find out when the next family day is going to be.

Oh and best of all if you like you can stay the night and still get to see your loved one the next day for a visit. So that weekend you can get 6 hours with your hubby!! :) That is what my husband and I would do it was so nice to get to see him again for a contact visit the next day!! :)

Whattttttttttt OMG this is news to my eyes and ears I haven't heard of such thing NOT in TeXaS anyways - this is great news if it is true and not a rumor of upcoming Family Days; J and I are going to be married on March 3rd I really wish they would allow Marriage Ceremonies there at the unit; got our Marriage License today. I'm so ready for them contact visits - and I'm going to call the Unit now to check on this Family Day and Marriage Seminar information and see what I can find out - be back in a bit ;]

UPDATE: Ok I just called and spoke to Chaplin Reeves; he stated that they had Family Day a year ago but that privilege of course was taken away due to the attempted escapes that have been happening; as far as Marriage Seminars they have never had them and won't - FIGURES Texas doesn't have crap. bLah!

Actually, they didn't even have Family Day a year ago, it's been a LOOOONG time.
As far as Marriage Seminars go, they have a new excuse all the time ... now they are blaming the escape attempts for everything, a year ago they said they're understaffed, I'm sure in the future there will be another excuse.
TDCJ Units do have those functions for inmates and their families, but Polunsky doesn't and probably won't.
