Hi all,
"I'm curious, I know we can bring up to 25$ to visitation. What kind of food can we buy during our visits? Is it just snacks? Someone told me, there were like sandwiches and stuff. Just wondering. I'm specifically concerned about Lake City C.I. or any Florida Prisons. Thx

They have hamburgers, different kinds of sandwiches (meatball, or chicken), chicken wings, clam chowder, popcorn, salads, "Egg McMuffin" type things, juice, soda, candy bars, cookies, chips. Sometimes there are other things. Or they might carry a particular item one time, but then you won't see it again for months. You will definitely spend the whole $25. In fact, when I visit my friend I grab something at McDonald's and eat before I go into the prison, so I won't be as hungry. This way I can spend most of the money on my friend. Then I eat outside again afterward.

Yeah they are right normal vending machine stuff. There's ice cream at Gulf CI. But make sure ya get your stuff as soon as you can for your visit cause at GULF the good stuff goes first and if your lucky they will get them refilled before your Sunday visit. Which is not always the case at GULF CI. one day you have alot to chose from the next barelly nothing. Spikeswife

Definitely hit the machines first as soon as you walk in. Milk and yogurt seem to go first. There are hamburgers, some times salads. Last week at Baker C.I. (down US 90 from Lake City) there were also fresh grapes and cheese. That was a welcome addition. The chicken wings always seem to stay in the machines as kind of a last resort. Some times pasta, and Tony Roma rib sandwhiches. The coffe machine is popular too.

I also eat first sso that my son can eat all of the $25.00, and noticed that Canteen had raised the prices of everything by almost .50 since last month. Cantten still takes care of the visitors park, and O'Keefe does the internal commissary.

I've been trying to call Canteen to see if we can request more healthy food. Geez with
the amount they make each week you would think they would have someone to fill the machines after saturday visits and not wait till Sunday afternoon. The others are right thoough Sunday is a little sparse, they dont bring in much and just restock the machines with what they have stored there on the side. So what you have on Saturday will not be different on Sunday.

Just an FYI incase hypnoticgg didn't know. IT is $25 per person so if you are going and so is another person, child or adult, each person can bring in $25. I highly suggest bringing singles and only singles fives and change are allowed. I suggest the singles because all of the machines take singles and often times the change maching to change a five is broken or out of change.

Well she told me i could take it back to the car or give it away. Well the line was so long i decided to give it to the next person that didnt have 25...hoping they would return it when we got inside. My guy usually can't eat an entire $25 worth of food but he comes close. Some days there's not jack in the machines, that's always a sad thing because they look forward to that food a lot. I always hate when they are out of water and diet coke, because that's all I want to have. I don't eat there, either. Tony Roma rib sandwiches are a big hit, as are the sub sandwiches. My guy grabs anything that's made by a restaurant. He eats when I first get there, waits a little then eats again. I love watching him eat food that tastes good to him.

Yeah money does go fast in there - on one of my visits - I ate a ham croissant and it made me so ill - I was throwing up the bathroom the whole visit - it seemed liked - my sister got a cheese sandwich out of the machine last month and it said "good before 2/3/2003" that was last year and when she opened it smelled sour. I wish they would put more "healthy" items in there - at Walton they don't have milk or yogurts in the machines like they some - my guy- says he feels sick when he goes back because of all of the junk he eats.

I just visit my son there this past week-end March 6.7th, and just to let you know that, you can only take 20.00 per person in the faciltiy and it can only be in $1.00 and silver, they don't allow no $5.00 cause there's no change machine there, also the food is very expensive. they had crystal burgers, blimpie subs, wings which were 3.25 and you only got 5 total wings in the pack (lol). they had 2 soda machines one pepsi products and one coke products and then one snack machine with chips/crackers/candy in it. however my advise to you is get the food that you want to eat as soon as you get there cause it goes very fast. On saturday visit I eat a big breakfast before I went cause they don't let you register at 8:15 they start right at 9:00 sharp for letting visitors in, and I believe I spent 23.00 that day, and that was enough for me, my daughter. and my son. and then I went again sunday and again We eat before we got there and spent 26.00 that second day. go luck on your visit there.... If you have any more questions in regards to Lake city please private message me......:ha:

One of the reasons I always try to get to the prison early so I can be towards the front of the line is the vending machines. Everyone is right. You need to hit them first thing and early. Visitation is from 8 to 2 at Holmes CI and if you get in after 9 or so the machines are almost empty. I usually spend between $20 and $25. I do wish they had some salads or fresh fruit there. But most of the time the selections are't to bad.

It's best to go to the prison early so can get the good snacks. other visitors tend to rack up on the good stuff really fast. there are a variety of foods you can buy such as: rib sandwiches, philly cheese steak sandwiches, chichen wings, potatoe chips, cookies, sodas, juices, and ice cream. you are allowed to bring $25 that really sucks because the prices are going up on those items sold in those vending machines
