My brother was just moved to Wyoming. 265 miles away from the boroughs. We have no idea how it is gonna be for him. Does anyone know anything . . .

Hi,
Wyoming is ok. It's medium security. My husband doesn't give them any trouble and , mostly, they don't hassle him. It's big, a large inmate population but it is all right. You can only visit either sat or sun not both. It depends on the last number in the inmates DIN. If it is odd then you visit on odd days, if it is even, you vivist on even days. Weekend and national holidays only.
There may be a state bus that goes.
My husband has been there since August.
They ahve a lot of programs, some job training courses there. They have a college program , too.
The guys going in usually end up in a dorm with double bunks and not much of any personal space until their name moves up the list.
Your brother shoudl be ok if he minds his own business. I guess there are gangs in there and stuff though.
I am so sorry he has been moved so far away...sigh! I thought they are supposed to try to keep people closer to family. darn it!
Take care and keep us posted as to how he does.

well I heard that Wyoming isn't that bad considering other NYS prisons. Wyoming i believe is right next door to Attica which runs between me (Rochester) and Buffalo, NY.

The NYS DOC could really give a crap about an inmate's family, so if any convict tells any of you he wants to get married b/c it would be better for him, he is either mistaken or is misleading you. An inmate's wife could have polio and be able to ride in a vehicle for no more than 2 hours with a doctor's note and and if a bed becomes available at 400 miles away in NY, that is where he goin. So for those who have loved ones who wind up much closer to home, that is pure blessing. How are you going to get there? I'd recommend Unity Brothers, Corky is the driver and co-owner with his brother and his number is 917-731-4286. He only goes up Friday night for Saturday visit. If your brother's DIN ends with an even number, his visit will be on Saturday because Saturday's date is an even number (Feb. 14); if it ends with an odd number, his visit will be on Sunday (Feb. 15) so be careful to watch out for that b/c it would be awful to ride all the way out west on a wrong visit day -- they will not let you in. The lady in the hospitality center won't even process your paperwork. If you go up on a wrong day by mistake you could try speaking with a sargeant while praying in your mind that he say "ok". They may, on a first visit allow it, BUT DO NOT COUNT ON THAT. If it's a 2nd or more visit, you will not have a visit if you go up on a wrong day. I'm not crazy about the food, but it'll do. If you like bus rides, then the commute won't really bother you. He leaves Penn Station about 10:30 pm and arrives at Wyoming at about 5:30 or 6:30. The picture taking machine sporadically steals your money so you have to be careful about that. The police don't really bother you. B/c it's so crowded there (1,800 inmates) and they get a whole lot of packages pretty much daily, while packages will arrive at the facility on time, he could get his late. I wouldn't recommend mailing cash -- I did twice -- my husband got everything I sent him, except the two envelopes with cash in them. I'm not saying the police took the money, I'm just saying it's worth the $.85 to purchase a money order b/c if it doesn't reach him, at least you can eventually get your money back. The bus picks you up at about 3:15 I think, and you're back in Manhattan by 10:00 pm. Queens huh -- his judge wasn't Cooperman was it, b/c for some reason I believe Cooperman had something to do with my husband getting sent all the way over there to Wyoming. It just struck me weird b/c the judge DID NOT like my husband one bit, and spots in closer hubs came up and guys shipped out, but not my husband. When that Wyoming spot came up, that's where he was sent. Queens is NOT the place to catch a case b/c they don't look at you, but down on you instead. Yes, Wyoming is so close to Attica that Attica police pick up the mail for both facilities, then a Wyoming police will go over to Attica to pick the mail up. On the visit I didn't hear any announcement to anyone who wants to leave money, so don't wait for it -- ask an officer what's the process for that. Same thing with picture taking -- watch out for it b/c I didn't hear an announcement.

Yeah BOsPiece is right, dont go there on the wrong day because they do not care they WILL NOT let you in to visit, I have seen girls sit there in the hospitality center more than one. If you want to leave money you leave it after you walk through the metal detector, get your stamp and then your paper to get in. You will normally have to tell someone you want to leave money. Caprione is also right about the gangs.... you name it they have it n there, Latin kings, Bloods, Crypts, etc... I suggest not to wear an underwire bra because the metal detector will go off then they make you go in the bathroom and take it off. The food isnt that great but the prices are reasonable. The police are decent as long as your brother is decent to them. I go to visit my guy often, if you have any more questions feel free to get ahold of me.

cooperman was a prick to me too. this place, although I was never sent to this particular facility, is suppossed to be pretty laid back. I heard through kites that in this facility, everyone pretty much just chills and does their bid quietly.

I happen to like the facility for my fiance simply because there are so many programs for them. there is more movement so they dont get bored and end up getting in trouble. My only problem has been with the packages. They never seem to decide what is acceptable. Every week I get the run-around. I recommend you send the money you intend on spending to them, stack the commisary and allow him to purchase his things from in there. It is the most hassle free way. Dont aggrevate yourself not that it's a burden but if you're anything like me you get more upset at the fact that they stay needing something in there because these C.O.'s cant decide what to let in. The ride is terrible but just look at it as a road trip. time will fly. good luck. Oh the visits are great just get there early. I take prison gap i'll post the number later i cant find it right now

Please don't post the number, but we appreciate your trying to look out. Might I suggest you givie Unity Brothers, Corky, 917-731-4286, a call Mon-Fri to make a reservation, the earlier the better? If you find that ride to be terrible, I'LL give you your money back -- what! (smile) But seriously, (smile), I'm serious. (smile)

Hi all:
My son just got sent to Wyoming (terminated from work release on a tier 3 ticket) and now has been sent out to "the box" somewhere else(don't know where yet)His big "offense" was driving and renting a car(no crime involved)He was home every nite, worked, stayed home.2 months to his merit(which they took away) so now has to wait for Nov. parole hearing. Oh yes His original case which was his 1st ever encounter with the "law" he got 3-LIFE Mandatory Minimums still remain ???ruining lives. Time for a crime? yes...but LIFE???People murder and don't get life.I'm heartsick so pray for my son Thanks. Little Hill (now, BOTH my husband AND son are in prison. And no, this isn't his son and he didn't raise him)
