Hi all,

I'm new to this board but I see familiar faces/names from the other communities I've been involved with. Until recently, I was in a relationship with Jay who is incarcerated in a Florida prison. Even though the relationship didn't work out, I want to be supportive of those who have loved ones still behind those gates. My father was in prison when I was a very young child so I have memories of visiting him then. Of my 4 brothers, 2 of them have done time (one in Florida and one in Missouri). I currently have a 24 year old second cousin on Florida's deathrow. To top all THAT off, my son is deputy sheriff in Arizona. To say I have a view from both sides is putting it mildly!:p

I know that the stigma attached to loving someone who is incarcerated challenges every belief system we've ever had and it takes a mighty strong individual to endure that. We learn things about prison systems and the people who have charge over our loved ones that we never could have imagined we'd know, or want to know. But knowledge is a powerful weapon so when we share together, we become stronger....to defeat those who have corrupted the prison systems with intimidation and brute force based on one fact: their charges are inmates, thus less than human and deserving less than humane treatment.

I am not political in any sense of the word nor am I out to change the world as a whole. I want to be a positive influence on those I come in contact with and, in doing that, my world is better.

I don't post alot...only when I feel really compelled. I just wanted to say hello and thanks for such a great site!

in peace,
myris

Thanks Myris, for your input here. You can probably be of help here in this forum. We all have some experience in dealing with the system, but the more knowledge we gain the better off we will be.

Hope you stay with us and reply to posts you feel you can help us with.
