Hi there, my fiancee is in Va, capron, Southampton CC . He asked me to marry him a long time ago. I think he wanted to wait untill one day he got out, but as time went by I was thinking why not do it now??? I mean why wait? Who knows how long to wait, and so we want to marry now...but how? I mean I am all the way from Belgium and to marry here is very different then over there...We don't even know about a blood test???? What is it anyway? SO is anyone out there from Va and got married in prison? Any advice is more then welcome....I will be waiting hoping I can marry him soon. thank you all, Hilde

Hilde !!
Do you think it's so much different between Belgium and Va ?
Being in love with each other is the most important !!!
So go buy a nice white dress, and don't forget to say "yes I will"!!!
All my best wishes of happiness to both of you !! :fb:

OK I can help you out cause I just got married in Va in August of this year so It is all fresh in my mind!:D

First off your husband to be has to put in the appropriate paperwork to the warden and have the warden approve the marriage. If either of you have been married before the prison has to have copies of the divorce papers. The warden will approve marriage and the Prison my husband is in only does weddings on the first Friday of every month. Once it is approved the chaplin takes over basically. He will talk to your husband to be about things and your husband needs to talk to his counselor as well. The counsellor will call you and ask you about things and thats about it. THey will set the time and date for you and atleast where my husband was, I brought in the rings, a camera, one roll of film (unopened) and some change for machines. You can bring as many as you want but they have to be on his visiting list. We got a one hour visitation after the wedding. The ceremony took about 10 mins and that was it.

Now the Chaplin does all the paperwork. He sends the information to the county court house for the county your husband is in and on the day of the wedding you go pick it up. They will NOT let you pick it up early. The cost was 30 dollars I think for license and then you will have to pay for copies of the marriage license in order to change all your documents to your new last name. Those copies cost $2.50 each and the court will send them to you if you ask while you are there and pay for them then. You get papers from court take them with you to prison, the chaplin fills them out and your husband signs them and then chaplin sends them back to court house within 5 days I think it is. Also your husband can only have a solid band plain with no design or anything on it just one solid smooth band. Also right after you get married make sure the guard has him fill out the paperwork to put the ring in his property list so they wont take it from him.

I think that is about it hehehe
If you have any other questions just ask me and I will see if I can help you :D :D
