Well, my son was there in Reception for 5 months....but I hear some people get mainlined sooner, but I also hear that some wait longer. Supposedly, they are only in Reception for up to 60 days. That's about the average if you watch the posts here, though I have never kept an official record or anything.
No phone calls while in Reception. Get good at letter writing. And send stamps!
It took us a couple months to get approved to visit. When you are approved, they will not tell you. They will give the approval form to your BF and he has to send it to you. THEN you call and make your appointment. Visits are one hour (if you are lucky) behind glass while in Reception. The months that we visited at Tracy, the CO's at the desk were nice but the CO's in the visiting room at Tracy were real jerks at first. They tried to mess with us because they could tell we were unfamiliar with the system, I guess. After a while most of them quit the games though and treated us decent. That may have changed now, I don't know.
Maybe you should call the visitor processing center and make sure that they are processing your application if you haven't already. I have read posts on this site where people's apps got misplaced.
Hang in there. It does get a little less frustrating (very little) as you move through the system with him.

Hi! My boyfriend was at DVI for 6 wks. No phone calls, no visits. The day he left he got the approval for me to visit. He never did get approval for his parents and they sent their form in within 2 days of mine. Inmates are typically only supposed to be there 60-90 days. If they have been in prison before, if there are any gang affiliations, etc are things that hang them up. It's so hard being in between, I know. Send him 20 stamps, 20 legal envelopes, as well as up to 200 sheets of lined paper, he can also have 2 clear bic pencils w no rubber grips and 2# 2 pencils. If you send these in seperate envelopes he get's them faster. Things kinda went like this for mine. First, he was seen by the psychiatrist, then a medical dr, he was also tested for scholastic purposes (no GED or diploma) he also had blood drawn for DNA, and by the time he got to a counselor it took 3 wks. I'm not sure it went exactly like that but this is what he wrote. After he saw the counselor he was sent to a dorm for holding until a bed opened. The visiting forms took about 6 wks to get approved at least for me. When he was transferred to the dorm they let him go "shopping" for the first time in 6 wks. He didn't even have tooth paste until he got enough stamps to trade for things. Now I'm waiting for my first contact visit! Keep the faith!

My fiancee is in DVI. He just got there at the end of Jan.(2004), and about 2 days later was calling me and is now working. So I really could not tell you what is going on. Be patient, he will call and things will finally start rolling. GOOD LUCK!!!

My boyfriend will be there for about a week while waiting to go to court here from Pelican Bay.I'm assuming since I'm approved for PB I am ok with visiting at Tracy if they let him have visitors? I'll have to call them and get info....Hoping they let me see him since it is 6 hours closer then PB!!!!
Do you have to make an appt there or just show up on visiting days?????
