:fb: Hello there, My husband recently finished a long process of trying to transfer to Canada to finish out his sentence in his home land and around his family.. After nearly two years including one year to research his citizenship and the other year to complete the process, it was promptly denied by the US, Board of Prison Terms..
Does anyone know whether it would do us any good to repeat the process and try again...????
How about transfering his parole up there after his 4 years left is completed here??? Is that an easier process? It seems crazy that they denied it due to the severe overcrowding here in the CA prison system... Canada would have let him out sooner, but that was for the exact same charges under Canadian law and they would have taken full responsibility for him... We were extremely upset and still are... any feedback appreciated.... jeanette

Jeanette, what have you done to try to expedite this from the CANADIAN end? Through the Canadian embassy or consultate?
I know for a fact that we sometimes bring Canadians home to do their sentences here. But I am not sure of the process...

PS: I presently know of a guy in (I think) Missouri, who's been jailed for a humungous number of years for a rape he says he did not commit. The state hi is in won't let him access the evidence for DNA testing. The Canadian government is putting pressure on them to do it...
His last name is Charron, and he has family in Hamilton Ontario. Do you want me to find info for you?

I agree with Menolly,
I would think that if you secured assistance from the Canadian government you would (or should) be able to complete this transfer. Just out of curiosity, is there precedence for such an international transfer? If so, wouldn't that assist you? I sure hope so.
I wish you the best.

Jim, we transfer our citizens back here all the time!
Jeannette:
The guy's name is Ken Charron. He is presently in prison in Missouri, and our government and the Association In Defence of the Wrongly Convicted are ALL working on his case.
He's done 16 years already, for a rape he is adamant he did NOT commit. The Missouri system will not allow him access to the evidence that was used to convict him. He wants it DNA tested, and so do we (Canadians)!
Ken is doing life PLUS TWO 30 year sentences, all boxcarred. (One sentence ends, the next one begins.)
For info on Ken (even though I know it is not the same circumstances) go to:
<http://www.opl.on.ca/HTML/index.html>
Then click on "Newspapers" in the blue (left) column
Then click on "Virtual News Library" (under "magazines and newspapers" in the yellow column on the right.)
Type in "Ken Charron" (WITH the quotation marks) in the "full text" box
Then hit "OK".

Thank you for the info.. I tried to do like you told me, but it would not give me access to the "virtual News Lobrary"... I will contact the Canadian Government again and ask them about applying again for the transfer..
very touchy subject. The US just does not want to relaease anyone back to their home country.. so pathetic... thanks again.. jeanette

I received a response from the John Howard Society in Edmonton, :-) they really did not have much good news for me but gave me Canadian addresses and some advocacy groups in California that might be able to assist me. I will get busy and write and call and see what I can find out. I won't give up until it is either approved or he finishes his sentence here, which ever is first.. may be a toss up.. thanks for the concern...
