Hi all, just wondering how long you guys had to wait for your loved one to be sentenced. It seems like a lot of us have had to wait a helluva long time to get an end date.

Its been 11 months and 10 days of waiting for me and hopefully he'll be sentenced next week. Fingers crossed!

What about you? How long did you have to wait? Or how long have you been waiting already?

my bf got sentenced in about a month, but it was a violation, not a new charge so maybe thats why it was so quick

Wellllllll. After his second and final trial, it took 4 1/2 months for him to be sentenced. 'Course, he spent 4 years in county jail before that happened.

About 14 months. His initial arrest was in March of '08. We were able to bail him out, and he was sentenced in May '09. I'm sure anyone whose loved one had a similar experience can vouch for how awful that lag time is. His life was forced to be on hold since he didn't know what the future held. This is something I'd never want anyone I cared about to go through!

It took R 8 months to be sentenced and he officially went to court the day after our second daughter was born. Extreme happiness and extreme sadness in two days.

Well my nephew was arrested in February of 2009 and sentenced on the 14th of October But I think it is different for everyone it depends on if the DA sets it of or your loved ones attorney sets it off

Julian's been in since June 29, 09 and still nothing. Court's on Monday and his attorney has convinced him that if the DA doesn't offer a "really sweet deal" then they should take it to trial but the attorney wants to push trial off until the end of January...who knows how long this will go on...

We had to wait about a year, but he was at home here, the case just took forever he had a court date every couple months. We knew it was going to happen eventually just didn't know when. When he was sentenced though the judge gave him 30 days to get his stuff together, then report back to turn himself in. It sucked.

Well, let me tell you about the latest instance:

He was absconding (again), and he gets arrested on 12-1-09 for a new charge (burglary) but he still hadn't finished parole on his last charge (possession). So he went to court on 12-3-09, they offered him 16 months on his new charge and 16 months on his old one. He signed the deal that day, and is now waiting to "catch a chain" to state prison.

So, all in all, 2 days. I know most people have much longer due to taking cases to trial.

it took just about a 3 1/2 months for my man to get sentenced. and they didnt even give him the time he has done already toward his time, so they started his time ALL over again on december 2nd, and he's been in since august 28th...

It took a little over 4 years for him to get sentenced. He didnt go to trial b/c the judge and lawyer said that he could have gotten life. So he took a plea bargain and was out on house arrest for the 4 years until he got sentenced in July for 10 years. I'm glad its over but I miss him and right now i wish he was here to talk to, just so much going on.

Indicted in april of this year, took plea at the end of july, and was sentenced beginning of november. So 7 months total but 3 months from the time he took the plea deal. It all felt like forever and was the most stressful 7 months I've ever been through in my life.

Hubby was sentenced real quick. He was only in county jail for a month before he was sentenced and shipped off to state prison.

In the state of alabama The sentences ordered by the different level of gov't are not served concurrently. For instance if you have county charges and have been sentenced then those must be served before you can even be served with a warrent for any state or city charges. This is how they managed to keep him for over 3 months one time because he had an unpaid traffic ticket with a FTA and had to serve that time before he was served on another misdemeanor

The state also uses suspended sentences this way because if you receive a VOP on a suspended sentence for catching another charge the full sentenced is imposed before the new charges are served. This is what happened to my baby which is why I have no idea how long we may be apart because he caught another felony but has to serve the full 4 year sentence before he will even go to trial on a charge that carries up to 15 years:( It can take up to 18 months after the he is served to make it thru the indictment process and go to trial.

3 months - I don't think they really looked into his case, he was just another one to be locked up! I wish they'd have spent more time and talked to him more - he didn't have us down there to meet with the people, we just had to rely on their calls and hope they were doing their job for him

he was arrested in 0ct of '07 and waited in county until he got sentenced in June of '09, we had been back together 5mths when he got sentenced I was at the trial that was one of the hardest days in my life hearing his sentence and him looking me straight in the eyes I could see the pain in his eyes he felt like it was over just when it began, he was shocked when I told him I was going to wait for him, it's been hard on both of us but we do the best we can until he can come home
